Vegas Fae #2

Of Gods and Fae

Rate this book
You see plenty of strange things when you're a P.I. in Las Vegas, but even that couldn’t prepare ex-cop Robert Hoskins for what was to come. At first he couldn't believe that all those stories he'd been told as a child were true. But hearing that the Fae had taken the casinos over from the mob was something else. Elves, Dwarves, Werewolves and Faeries were just the beginning and battling dark Mages, the opening act.

Having banished his enemy to the cold hell of Tartarus he'll now have to travel to the Fae lands to claim his birthright. Along the way, and after, there's Demons and Dragons to fight and a trip down the river Styx to the gates of Hades itself is on the playlist if he'll want to defeat the dark Fae's minions and undo an ancient curse.

From the author of "Return of the High Fae," this is book two in the Vegas Fae stories but a standalone novel in its own right.

Sin City will never be the same.

Completely re-edited and remastered to address issues brought up in the earlier edition.

Tom Keller

Tom Keller is a retired cop and former computer forensics expert and Federal Public Defender investigator. Back in the early days he was a busboy, a cook, and a shoe and real estate salesman. He's taught courses at the local Community College as well as lectured to others in his field on a variety of topics. He lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. A place he's called home for over 40 years.

He had a website design business back in the days when you still accessed the Internet by modem. He's sold model airplanes and electronics on the web and eBay. He even had his own TV show for a season or two (okay, it was really low budget, better call it no budget, and it was on UHF for those of you that remember those kinds of things. But, hey, it did snag a 2.0 share one episode). He collects toy space guns, lunch boxes, and coffee cups, among other memorabilia. If he had a personal card it’d probably say something like ‘specialist in generalities,’ or as his brother would say, polymath.

Tom is still married to his college sweetheart and spends his free time with his family and spare time writing. He is a member of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America.

The series so far is just okay. I thought there might be room for the series to grow because the premise was pretty good, but so far it's just mediocre. It is also starting to get convoluted with the addition of a bunch of new characters and storylines. The things I didn't like in the last book are still there. I hate how much this author writes about coffee. Robert must have the largest coffee cup collection in the world because he always has a different cup with some quirky writing on it. The other problem I had in the first book is present again and it is really getting to me. That is Roberts lack of knowledge in the fae world. People don't tell him anything because they think he should already know it (even though most of them know that he just became aware of this world about a month ago). Then there are the people that should be explaining things to Robert but don't. There is always something about how there is no time to tell him now, but they will talk later. The author tries to make this lack of information okay by making Robert pissed off about it as well. Maybe trying to make the reader empathize with Robert because he is upset about it as well? I did empathize with Robert feeling frustrated with the lack of information. However, this did not make me like Robert more because he just yelled and then went ahead and did whatever he was told to do anyway. I would have done nothing until someone explained to me what was happening. Plus there were periods where Robert was absolutely clueless and then there were times when he knew exactly what to do, including formal proclamations. A bunch of new characters/species entered the series and there origin wasn't fully explained including a dragon, and an Angel. Not to mention Roberts kids It seems like the dark forces have been planning things for at least 50 years and nobody seemed to know about it. Now Robert and his allies are scrambling to catch up. If his Fae allies were so powerful, how could they have not noticed all that was happening around them for the last 50 years! I haven't decided if I will continue the series. It's not bad, just nothing special.

This was a fun next installment in the series. I enjoyed the plot progression and the way some lose ends from the previous book were resolved. The characters in this series are so enjoyable.

I think this book lacked some of the punch that the first book had. For all the action that was going on, the reading experience didn't carry the same excitement as the first book. That said, I really enjoyed it and look forward to more.

Enjoyed It

The second book in this series flowed much better. It still seemed to have distinct parts as each challenge was met and overcome. Loved all the supernatural mix, elves, weres, dryads, angels, demons, dwarves and a little of each of their stories. I truly hope book three is just around the corner, I really look forward to the evolution of the story. This a light enjoyable read.

Again, another enjoyable read.

Mr. Keller has a wonderful imagination. Three stories in this book. I was very impressed how Keller blended each story. This author has test when allows sex to enter the story. It never is extreme or over done.

Highly recommended

Hope the third is already done. I have thoroughly enjoyed both books, and sincerely hope that the wait for the next isn't so long!

God but predictable

Not a masterpiece or a classic but worth the price and worth buying the next installment.

Anything new is better than old Anita Blake filler.

The ancient Greeks would have been appalled.
By the setup, but also:
Robert fights hard for equality. As long as everyone agrees that he is first among equals, and does as he says. He doesn't mind killing those who disagree.
The ancient Greeks would have approved of that!
The ancient Norse would have been disgusted.
By the setup. But also. Siegfried? From Joutenheim? Snort. Gerda? Please! ☆#%& (curses in Old Norse).
Robert stumbles, staggers, flounders along. I feel for his poor companions/teachers.
Dear fellow readers, abandon all hope, this is Fantasy mythology.
This is funny, entertaining. If you can ignore the fake mythology. To be fair, the second part is better. This is really two stories in one book, and the Author has studied up for the second tale.
Don't try to figure out the genetics, you will only bring on a migraine.

Being a god is not as fun as it sounds for Robert, but it is to be noted that Robert is the kind of guy who keeps his promises and being a god means that there is more required of him than of a regular guy. I really enjoy following Robert as he stumbles and falls and gets up with unexpected opportunities in his hands. The way that Robert manages his new friends and alliances gives me hope that maybe I can do the same with my lesser opportunities as I go through my life (hopefully with less chance of overturning the social order around me while I do so). This is an enjoyable and surprisingly relatable read for me. I definitely need to introduce my brother to Robert Hoskins.

Just finished the book and I like the direction this is taking, it has the same feeling as novel 1 but at least Robert is not so loss. Now there are a couple of repeated statement that contradict each other we have the character state something at one point and a couple of pages later his dialogue infers the opposite of this statement, this could lead to major plot holes in the future if not handled correctly. Besides the decision he makes regarding his children’s feels like a repetition of the same problems he is facing.

Even the bad guys are great!

This is not one of those second books used to firm up the world in which our hero/heros live, this is a dive right in and continue on to another adventure. This is a laugh out loud, shake your head, smile like a fool read, that will make you look at everything around you just a little closer!

Book 2 - Done

It’s not the worst book / series I have read, but again we seem to have speeded up action sequences with not much thought going into them. We need more detail & slow it down! However at least it’s not as bad as another series of books where it was almost written like, “And then, and then, and then, and then” !!!

Book three here I come!

This is only on the audio version. I loved the book and decided as I love audio books I would buy it. It was horrible. The quality was tinny and fuzzy. I deleted and downloaded a few times and each time it was the same. I could not make it through the audio book. I hated returning it but it was so scratchy that I just could not listen to it. Something needs to be done to make the quality better.

The BOXES are checked...

..including gods, legends, monsters, demons, faeries of sundry varieties, magic swords, dragons, flying horses, et al. What's not to like?!? Having read fantasy since the early 1960's I feel qualified to recommend these novels to anyone who enjoys mixed pantheon creative literature.

A sequel that lives up to the first book.

I'm beginning to like this series more and more. It really should be on tv or at the movies . There is action, drama, romance and intrigue. I'm ready for book 3.

Awesome continuation of the story of ex-cop Robert Hoskins in Of Gods and Fae. The storyline developed nicely and was pulling for the whole time. I enjoyed the book in audible edition, awesome work so far.

Me Vegas Fae

The powers seem to grow exponentially too fast but overall a solid entry in the series. Most of the novel takes place outside of Lad Vegas but it all stays connected.

Good read

So far am enjoying this series. The only downside I see and hope doesn't continue is the recaps. I know some Authors make books accessible by giving info about previous books but I rather they did not.

Excellent!

Another excellent sequel to the previous novel in the series. There is so much packed into this book. I can’t believe it is only booked two in the series. Of course, I have already ready read books 7, eight, and nine. I’m looking forward to book number three.

Great read. Love the concept of a "Coming of Age" type of discovery story for a middle aged character.
