Caisey Quinn—author of the Neon Dreams romances—delivers a prequel novella in an explosive new romantic suspense series...When Chase Fisk enrolled in the United States Army, it was mostly to escape a dead- end job working with his  alcoholic father. The military provided him with a sense of  belonging, and his brothers in arms became the family he never thought he’d have. He’s ready to embrace his promotion to Commanding Officer over a group of new explosive tech recruits—but he isn’t ready for her. Vivian Brooks grew up in a military family and is unlike any woman Chase has ever met. The recently enlisted recruit is beautiful, tenacious, and as steady with her hands as any EOD technician he’s ever seen. She tempts him in every way possible, challenging him at all turns and taunting him with a body that haunts his waking moments and most of his sleeping ones. But as their forbidden romance could threaten their careers if it’s discovered, Vivian’s buried secrets threaten to destroy them both. Includes a teaser for Live Wire.

Both Chase and Vivian have serious life goals and dreams. Chase is teaching a bunch of newbies the ropes with explosives and little does he know Vivian will be his star pupil. That is after they spend a night of heated passion together, not knowing that they will be in a commanding officer/subordinate relationship. Chase can hardly think straight teaching when Vivian is one of his students, but he puts his feelings of lust and attraction aside to do his job. Neither wants to risk all that they’ve worked for, for a fling. But at the same time both realize this is more than a fling and they can’t resist the pull between them.

Angst, longing and passion are what I felt from these two! That ending should be a crime, and it left me wanting to get my hands on Live Wire immediately, if not sooner! Thankfully Live Wire will be released very soon. After that cliffhanger, I wonder how things will play out for this lovesick couple! Excellent, addictive writing and setup for this series! I can’t wait to pick up Live Wire!

4.5 stars

Chase and Vivian are the typical one night stand that morph into tomorrows what was I thinking? They are real life characters facing real life problems, they both risk everything to be together only Chase has come clean about his life and Vivian is withholding her secrets. The attraction is immediate; it’s clear they possess certain magnetism to each other. The love scenes are composed of scorching heat and love. Supporting details make the plot line flow seamlessly, the cliffhanger at the end was a surprise to me. The secondary characters are important to the novella, I am very intrigued to see where everyone ends up. Lit Fuse is a fantastic afternoon read full of hot military men and women, who know how to heat up the pages!

I've been waiting to see what Caisey Quinn would give us since I finished her Neon Dreams series in 2015. When I learned it was a military romance series set in Nashville, I couldn't have been more excited. Now that I've read the novella, I'm even MORE excited... and anxious to get my hands on the first full length book! I need more of Chase and Vivian. Like, ASAP.

Chase and Vivian. Boy, did I love those two. First of all, Chase was hot AF. (I do have a thing for men in uniform. But, who doesn't?) Vivian was all kinds of awesome on her own. I love a good kickass heroine and she was absolutely that. I read a lot of books, but I don't stumble across many women in the military — and especially in a field as dangerous as bomb diffusing. That alone makes me want to be best friends with her. The fact that she was strong, smart and totally willing to go after what she wanted made me love her even more.

Together? Chase and Vivian were explosive. (Yeah, I went there.) They had intense chemistry from the very start. Their hookup was HOT. Of course, it was just supposed to be one night... but that was before they realized Chase was Vivian's CO. Did I mention forbidden romances are one of my favorite tropes? Even as things progressed and they were determined that it be only physical, I wanted more for them myself. They were so well-matched that I can't help but want, no NEED, for them to work out.

Caisey's Nashville's Finest series is off to a great start. I loved the characters. There are some great secondary characters I can't help but be intrigued by, too. Lit Fuse was SEXY AF and there were some great suspenseful moments, too. There is a fairly wicked cliffhanger at the end of this one — my heart starts pounding just thinking about it — so I definitely have all kinds of grabby hands for Live Wire.

I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

FAVORITE QUOTES
"I like the way I taste on you."

This was something else, an insatiable hunger. A craving for a taste of something specific he wasn't supposed to have.

Chase Fisk could burn her alive and reduce her to ashes. He'd lit the fuse that night and now she was a ticking time bomb waiting to detonate. Needing to explode. Soon. The blast wave could destroy them both, destroy their careers, their common sense.

Fraternization between teacher and student is frowned upon, but particularly when said people are military and careers are on the line. However, the explosion that went off the night they met and the explosives they work with by day only keep the pair smoldering for each other and make being together worth the risk.

Lit Fuse is an introductory prequel story to what is going to be quite the sizzling hot romantic suspense series based on the ground work set up in this story. There is a full story arc of sorts in this one, but at the same time, it is still an introduction and ends on a teaser cliffie at that. The reader will get so much more out of this and not be disappointed if that is all understood going in.

Chase and Vivian are the lead characters surrounded by his army buddies and her besties. Her past holds dark secrets that are hinted at until the end. The pair of lovers are both confident, assertive, and passionate though both have things from their pasts that make them emotionally distant and less than forthcoming. Vivian has a chip on her shoulder over her need to be the best and prove herself. She tends to assign feelings and thoughts to Chase that are not his because beneath her brashness she is pretty insecure and vulnerable. Chase has a tendency to button down his feelings and doesn't share so I can't entirely blame her for engaging in speculation.

So, all in all, I think this was a nice set up and teaser for what is to come. Romantic Suspense lovers who want a fiery romance pair should give this a go.

My thanks to Penguin-Random House for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Holy Mother of WHAT???!!!!! Wow, just wow. I'm still trying to pick my mouth off the floor, so please excuse me if I start rambling. WOOOOOOOW!!!! Ok, Ok. I'll at least try to write a review for this one..

What a way to start a series. I mean, usually in a prequel, we're just learning about some characters and getting to know a little about what the series might be about. This? THIS!!! This has everything you'll ever ask for in a novel wrapped up in to a perfectly packaged prequel. And to say that I'm ready for the rest of this series is a HUGE understatement.

Chase is a Corporal for the US Army. He's also completely goo goo gah gah gorgeous, with the southern gentlemen flare. Can you say, heeeeellllo. While out with the boys, he meets a bombshell who catches more than just his eye. After finally convincing her to let her guard down a little, it looks like that one night stand is on. But when the next morning roles around, it turns out that its anything but a one night stand. And his job just became a lot more difficult.

Viv is the redheaded bombshell. She's also in for the surprise of her life when she walks in to her training class and realizes that her trainer is her CO and her amazing one night stand. Oops. Dang it. Things just got real. But during the eleven week course, the chemistry between the two becomes more than either of them can handle.

This was a great prequel in terms of getting to know not only the main characters, but support characters as well. I was completely pulled in to the battle over being with each other and was obviously pulling for the HEA. And just when that HEA is happening...we're totally blindsided by an event (and total freakin tease BTW) that was the cause of my mouth hanging open. Side note - the title of this is PERFECT!!!!!!!!! I'm already watching the calendar so that I can get my hands on the next one. Eeekkkkk!!!!!

AMY C'S REVIEW
4 STARS

Totally and completely explosive... And not just because he's a bomb defusing expert and she's his student....but lord knows that didn't hurt one bit. She was looking for a "clean, easy and no complications" kinda thrill ride just to take the edge off her new training class and he was more than willing to oblige. What she got was a complicated kinda tension that caused the air to crackle when ever they were near!

Chase & Vivian are the couple that make all the rules cease to exist. They can light up a room by just being in it. Neither one is looking for anything more than a roll in the hay,or backseat of a truck, but what they get is so much more. They find tht mutual respect and a determination to over come fears is more valuable. This makes them literally drawn to each other constantly for support and guidance.

I've been waiting a long time for a new Caisey Quinn book and this one did not disappoint. The idea of forbidden love is sooooo intriguing and hot that I couldn't put the book down. Chase was sexy schmexy officer in uniform and she was the red head who needed saving from her own self. This concept was fantastic and made for some steamy reading. Completely recommend.

I don't know about you guys, but I have been dying for something new from Caisey Quinn, and I gotta tell you, I couldn't be more excited for her new series, Nashville's Finest. The first book in its series, Lit Fuse, might be a novella, but boy does this story ever pack a punch. It sets the scene and introduces us to Chase and Vivian. The connection from with these two was instant and intense. I loved the forbidden quality to their relationship and seeing them deal with their feelings despite their circumstances.

Lit Fuse is a fast paced and exciting read. It was hot, sexy, and super entertaining. I devoured this novella in just under two hours. I was hooked on the characters and their story. I couldn't wait to see what happened next and I really enjoyed the twists along the way. And the ending...boy does it leave you begging and dying for more. I can not wait to get my hands on the next book in this series and see how everything is going to play out for Chase and Vivian.

Superbly written, sinfully sexy, and highly addictive, Lit Fuse is a sensational introduction to Caisey Quinn's new series, Nashville's Finest! It's safe to say I am totally hooked after reading this passionate and combustible novella. With intriguing characters and a storyline that's completely engaging, Ms. Quinn has a real winner on her hands with this one.

A different take on the student/teacher trope, Chase and Viv's story had me on the edge of my seat until the very last page...and then boom, I'm left wanting more!
I'm excited to see what Live Wire brings us in the saga of Chase and Vivian...I can't imagine it will be aything less than explosive when it comes to these two!

Be warned Caisey Quinn exercises cruel and unusual torture with Lit Fuse. I had heard through the rumour mill that Lit Fuse ended on a cliffhanger and had delayed reading thinking publication was the 31st of January for some reason and wanting the wait for Live Wire to be a little as possible. What I wasn't expecting was to be left at such a pivotal moment with my heart in my mouth and the words WHY screamed at my kindle. To say I need to read Live Wire immediately would be an understatement, if it had been on my kindle last night I probably wouldn't have slept.

Chase and Vivian (Viv) cross paths in a bar the evening before Viv is due to start an 8 week training course. One thing leads to another which leads to an explosive encounter in the back of Chase's truck ;)

Surprising both Chase and Vivian is the realisation that their romp is more than just physical. Viv knows she is unable to give more than one night due to her current commitments so makes her exit before Chase wakes up. However, fate has other plans for Vivian and Chase, when Viv's new Commanding Officer on her bomb disposal training course is none other than the delectable Corporal Chase Fisk.

Being Vivian's Commanding Officer brings its own set of problems especially as the chemistry between Chase and Viv is set to a constant sizzle.

Tantalising snippets of both Chase and Vivian's past are woven through the narrative creating a compulsive need to dig deeper in order to find out just how Chase and Viv tick. Mention of a particularly traumatizing event in Viv's past adds intrigue and suspense to an already packed plot.

There is no denying the connection between Viv and Chase, unfortunately, due to their respective circumstances neither know the way to proceed, creating additional barriers when they have more than enough external battles to face.

With the fledgling feelings blossoming between Viv and Chase, secrets from Viv's past come back to haunt her and alter the course of her future.

Seriously Casey how can you end the story at that point!!!!!! Cruel and unusual reader torment - I need Live Wire NOW

Holy. Smokes.

What an explosive beginning to this new series by Caisey Quinn. Seriously - it was ON FIRE. Okay. I'll stop.

But, explosions definitely play a big part in Lit Fuse. Chase is a Corporal in the Army. He's an expert in bombs and explosives, and he's training a new class of recruits on how to not get blown up. Vivian is an Army brat who's all grown up and ready to make her own path. One steamy hook-up with a stranger, though, and she's questioning everything.

Chase Fisk could burn her alive and reduce her to ashes. He'd lit the fuse that night and now was a ticking time bomb waiting to detonate. Needing to explode. Soon. The blast wave could destroy them both, destroy their careers, their common sense.

I can't even believe this was a novella. It didn't read like a novella. It didn't feel like one. Chase and Vivian's story was complicated and messy and had build-up and backstory and chemistry and sex. Lots of hot, hot sex. It was this delicious forbidden romance that had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, wondering if they were going to be found out.

But, the craziest thing about Lit Fuse is that, you're thinking this whole time that the Chase and Vivian's story is going to be about one thing, and then at the very end, you realize that it's actually going to be about something completely different and totally unexpected. The cliffhanger ending will leave you breathless and wondering what in the heck is going on. And it will definitely leave you begging for the next book, which will be Chase and Vivian's full-length novel.

If Lit Fuse is any indication of how Caisey Quinn's new series is going to go, it's sure to be completely amazing.

Title: Lit Fuse
Series: Nashville's Finest, #0.5
Cover Rating:
Silver Star

Book Rating:
5 Stars

About the Book:
When Chase Fisk enrolled in the United States Army, it was mostly to escape a dead- end job working with his alcoholic father.

My Thoughts:
Oh my gosh.. Lit Fuse was too short, I wanted more! I wanted more Viv, I wanted more Chase.

So much here that could have made it a full novel had they been expanded never the less Lit Fuse is a great title for this book because the relationship between Viv and Chase is exactly that once they are brought together.

If you haven't read Quinn's work before this is a great place to start to get you ready for the new Nashville's Finest series. Absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to watch the action and passion explode for the rest of the books.

This is not the first time, but I find myself asking, once again, "where are all the people raving about Caisey Quinn's books?" Because seriously, the lady writes a mean story, with sweet and sassy characters and so much sex appeal / sexual tension (and just enough release), that I find it appalling, how unknown of a writer she seems to be based on the reviews and ratings!

I've read the Kylie Ryan series (twice) and the Neon Dreams series (once), and loved them to bits. Caisey Quinn knows a thing or two about thing or two, clearly. ;) With Lit Fuse she delves into a new area, though, the military. While I have my favourite authors for certain genres (KA & Madeline Sheehan for bikers, K.B. Ritchie for empowering and touching NA), Caisey Quinn has been my favourite writer for music genre, whereas Rebecca Yarros is hands down the best at writing military romances (and about fire fighters, it seems, too). Weirdly, while I was reading Lit Fuse, I had to constantly remind me of whose book I was reading. Not because there are similarities in the stories, but because of the way the story made me feel. Both Yarros and Quinn have this somehow lyrical way of writing, that's both witty and heart-wrenching, sweet and hot as hell. Interestingly, I found both authors about the same time a few years ago.

Anyway, I love the writing in this book! In all this author's books that I've read. It's fluent and original, and it's mostly about showing, not telling. I loved the characters, and for a short story / novella, the author managed to develop the characters enough to get me invested while reading. I admire that trait. There are so many novella's out there, that seem to be all about sex and drama, without an actual plot and story.

I loved how Chase was a decent guy, not too full of himself or not too macho, but confident and stable. He clearly has some growing to do still, but the way he handled himself during the events of this book... let's just say, that I'm looking forward to the Live Wire! Same with Vivien – I loved how she wasn't a hardass or a bitch, even though she did have a bit of a hustler in her, which is just fine in my opinion. She had strong character, strong values, and she was kind.

Now, I'm off to read the Live Wire!

Scorching…..

This is a prequel novella which sounds like it should be short and with minimal substance. That couldn’t be farther from the truth! Chase and Vivian’s casual encounter was anything but and they knew it when they met again. Little did they know their first encounter shouldn’t have happened at all…

“Corporal Chase Fisk, the Virgo with the perfect penis, was her instructor and CO for the next eleven weeks…”

Not only was there passion and heat to spare, this quick read let us find out more about how and why Chase and Vivian tick the way they do. Chase is uber-protective and all things alpha, to the point where he is willing to give up everything for the chance to be with her. Vivian was definitely more conservative, not as ready to commit with so much on the line for both of them. There are ups and downs and back and forth but in between it all is passion and humour, love and caring that couldn’t be hidden…

A jaw-dropping ending, with dangerous revelations and consequences, has me running to find the next in this series… ~Diane, 4.5 stars

Lit Fuse is the prequel to Live Wire. In this novella, we meet Chase and Viv and get their back story. I've purposely held off on reading this until Live Wire was available because I knew that I'd love it and need more of their story immediately and I wasn't disappointed. Caisey Quinn's still got it!! On to Live Wire!

Caisey Quinn has me totally hooked on Chase and Vivien! From the first page to the last, Lit Fuse is a sweet, sexy, action-packed ride that teases at an even greater adventure ahead. This novella packed a powerful punch, introducing readers to Chase, Vivien and a handful of other fantastic characters who will comprise the Nashville’s Finest Series. Each one had a unique, lovable and totally intriguing personality that left me wanting so much more. Although I’m not generally a fan of third person narration, Caisey Quinn effortlessly captures the hearts of our two main characters and delivers this story in a way that perfectly reflected their individual voices. She served up all of the emotion and personal connection to Chase and Vivien I could have hoped for and then some, easily ensuring my total investment in their happily ever after.

From the moment they met, Chase and Vivien were utterly electric. They had an undeniable attraction that hinted at the possibility of something deeper and decidedly epic evolving between them. Caisey Quinn did a phenomenal job at planting the seed of their inevitably significant connection and letting it grow just enough to grab hold of the readers and ensure they’d be back for the full-length novel. I loved how carefully bits and pieces of both Chase and Vivien’s pasts were revealed over the course of the story, allowing readers to appreciate the depth of both characters while also leaving room for further exploration. While I knew enough to become wholly enthralled by these memorable characters, there was obviously more to discover that will keep me coming back. I can’t wait to see where Caisey Quinn plans on taking these characters and how they’ll continue to grow, both as individuals and together, as their journey progresses.

There honestly wasn’t anything I didn’t enjoy about Lit Fuse. From the fun, sassy way that this story began to the explosive and puzzling ending, I was absolutely riveted. This novella is a true testament to Caisey Quinn’s incredible talent. Not only has she crafted a unique storyline and filled it with one-of-a-kind characters, but she has also managed to perfectly balance the heat, humor and heart of this story and compact it without losing any of its spark. I adored every sassy comeback, intelligent thought and sizzling moment of tension that colored the pages of Lit Fuse and I can only imagine how addictive Chase and Vivien’s full-length book will be. This story was paced to devour and I did just that. Overflowing with flirtatious banter, sexy interludes and emotionally raw moments, Lit Fuse is the total romance package topped off with heart pounding suspense and gut-wrenching surprises that will leave you reaching for the rest of the Nashville’s Finest series.

This is the perfect prequel to Quinn's new Nashville's Finest series!

Hot! Explosive! Dangerous! Forbidden! Sexy! All of the Above!

When Chase gets hustled out of his table at a local bar, he can't seem to get the sexy red head out of his mind. He had been out at the bar, having a good time before he had to start training new recruits in his EOD classes. And when the red head keeps catching his eye, he nods and stands to leave, with the red head shortly behind him.

After a heated session (and I mean hot and sexy!) in the back of his truck, Chase awakes alone. Perplexed and still thinking of the red head, wondering if he will see her again. It was supposed to just be a one time thing, they didn't even exchange names. But Chase just can't seem to stop thinking about her and when Chase walks into his training class that morning, he is a bit surprised at who the first one to show up to class is!

There is just so much more in this Novella than a quick, forbidden romance between a CO and a private under his command. Quinn sets up the characters, and the very beginning of it all to her upcoming new series - Nashvilles Finest. This one is not to be missed, especially if you are looking forward to the first book in the series - Live Wire (which I've also read and loved!).

The characters are well developed, the plot is great and it sets the stage for Live Wire. The chemistry between Vivien and Chase is so freaking hot, it's off the charts! And there is mystery and some danger too. All the perfect components that makes this Novella one you won't wanna miss!

Vivien and Chase meet each other at a bar one night. Chase wants her, but Vivien doesn’t want a distraction. Her best friends can change her mind and they have one very hot night together! Vivien wanted one night, so she is shocked when she sees Chase the next morning. Chase is her new teacher for the next couple of weeks. Chase still wants her, but she is off limits now. Vivien still doesn’t want a distraction and focuses on studying. When Vivien needs help, Chase is there.

I liked the prequel a lot. We know a few things about Vivien and Chase’s past. Their pasts aren’t pretty and they worked hard to get where they are now. Chase loves his work and loves teaching. The army has been his life and he met his best friends because of it. Vivien wants to join the army and she knows what she wants. She works hard and very determined.

The book ends with a cliffhanger and I definitely need the next book! Something shocking happens at the end and I need to know more. I have a feeling that this series will be good!

Chase Fisk spends his days teaching new recruits how to become EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) Specialists. A new group every eleven weeks, and even in his private life he exhibits the calm reserve that you'd expect from someone in that role. When Vivian Brooks crosses his path however, sparks begin to fly.

Right from the first chapter you can sense the explosion that's coming, making the title, perfectly apt.

Told third person, which I'm not usually much of a fan of in romance novels, Caisey Quinn piles angst upon tension as this forbidden romance inexorably works it's way toward a breathtaking conclusion.

With a diverse array of vibrant characters, helping to build a vivid sense of depth for such a short story, I was drawn in and held captive right to the ending where things are set up perfectly for the first full length novel in the series. One I'm already waiting eagerly for.

Well I certainly did not see that ending coming. It not only caught me by surprise but blew me away!

Warning: this book is explosively good, but the cliffhanger leaves you in pieces, with me questioning, WTH just happened?!

Caisey Quinn has given her readers a forbidden, heated military romance between Corporal Chase Fisk and Private First Class Vivien Brooks. The chemistry between them was so strong, that neither were prepared for the explosive way their bodies reacted to each other.

The question remains, is love worth the risk of losing everything that you've gained and worked so hard for in life? Can a bond truly be formed without trust? Has the sins of her parents come back to haunt Vivien? Let's hope these questions are answered in the next book and oh so much more. Let's just say I'm anxiously anticipating the next book in this series!

Lit Fuse is a quick and sexy introduction to Chase Fisk and Vivian Brooks. What started as a one-night stand turns into something more for these two when they run into each other the next day in the most unexpected place. This prequel novella is a great introduction to the series and provides a good backstory to Chase and Viv's relationship. Then that ending! Totally unexpected and now I am dying to start Live Wire, I can't wait to find out what happens next!

After having a one-night-stand with a man she meets at a bar, Vivian walks into her first day of EOD training to find a big surprise. Her commanding officer is her one time lover. Chase and Vivian must keep their relationship a secret, or both risk punishment from their CO. What I enjoyed about this book was the explosive chemistry between characters, and also the detailed training sessions Chase took the group through. I definitely enjoyed the story, and can't wait for what's next for Chase and Vivien.

First off cliffhanger warning! And what a hell of a cliffhanger it is. I am still trying to wrap my head around who, what, when, how and why. I enjoyed the reverse roles , it was the man who was all googly eyes and wanted more and the female was the one who played it cool even aloof. It was nice to see that happening . Very strong female lead, with a surprise ending that will leave you wanting more .
