A recently divorced Melodee Delon is dealing with a dilemma. Twelve years ago, when she and best guy friend, Amir Jones, were teenagers, Amir suggested they be more than just friends. Loving their friendship just as it was and fearing he’d continue to want more for them, she panicked and hooked him up with her best girlfriend, Sheena Rincon. Matchmaking proved not to be Melodee’s forte. Amir and Sheena’s relationship wasn’t the best for the two years they were together and their courtship ended horribly right before their high school graduation. It’s over a decade later and Amir’s feelings for Melodee have only gotten stronger. He’s a major recording artist now and is traveling the world on tour with one of Hip Hop’s biggest artists, signing multi-million-dollar endorsement deals, receiving nominations for a multitude of awards, and is lusted after by many women in several area codes – local and international. But like LL, Amir needs love and the only person he wants it from is Melodee. And here enters the obvious problem… there’s an unspoken rule in a sisterhood that states a friend should never date another friend’s ex. Especially if that ex is that friend’s first love. Besides, Sheena might never approve of Melodee and Amir’s potential relationship anyway all because of a decision Amir pressured her into making as a teenager that’s affecting her life as an adult. So now Melodee must decide what is more important to her, love or loyalty. And the decision won’t be an easy one to make. *This story contains sexually explicit content that is intended for ADULTS ONLY (18 years or older).
Brookelyn wrote her first short story when she was a sophomore in high school. Back then she discovered how using her experience as a teen living in Brooklyn to create romantic shorts was just as exciting to her as retail shopping and going on dates. After starting her first semester of college two years later, Brookelyn’s creative writing became more of a hobby and something to do to escape the stress of midterms and finals. Now in her 30s as a freelance writer, penning short stories and novellas is her everything. While her experience with writing has evolved for the better, her undying love for creating fiction remains unchanged. Brookelyn's focus is on creating contemporary women's fiction with characters based in urban settings. Her stories chronicles the emotional journeys and erotic experiences of women today through her characters and the scenarios they're thrown into.
The motivation behind her brand of writing has a lot to do with what she discovered storytelling provided for her - an escape. Her goal with her work is to create characters and urban worlds that offer a great escape for fiction readers looking for a break from the daily grind of adulting and who prefer to relax with good books and short stories. When she’s not freelancing, doing yoga, or showing her husband and toddler lots of love, she can be found sitting at her computer desk, with her legs folded, and a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine) at arm’s reach as she types or edits her latest short or novella.
This book was like a smooth love song. The characters were well developed. It had a quick pace and entertaining plot. Mosley is a talented writer. I look forward to reading more of her work.
Melodee and Amir have been best friends since grade school. Their chemistry has always been organic. But like most opposite sex friendships, one person wants to be more than friends. "Yeah, it's true. I told you I was falling for you our sophomore year that night in your tree house, you reacted by introducing me to Sheena the next day. Telling me she likes me." So, here we are, twelve years later. Everybody has progressed in life and we're left wondering, is it okay to break 'girl code'.
Melodee's marriage has failed. Her thrive to want more out of her career has forced her and her husband to put expanding their family on the back burner, forcing him to leave her with just her goals and aspirations and a pair of diamond earrings. While navigating her way in to the single life, she reconnects with her old high school bestie, Amir. The familiar spark they once had is still there, forcing Melodee to reevaluate their 'friendship'. There's just one catch. Amir is now her best friend's ex. "You're my best friend's ex-boyfriend. You got her pregnant for God's sake. Y'all got too much history for us to ever have anything together."
Amir is now a celebrity, a Grammy award winning celebrity. He seems to have it all. The only thing he doesn't have is a lady in his life to share it all. And then enters Melodee. Amir has always wanted more with her, but after being friend-zoned, he appreciates what he has instead of thinking of what could be. His past relationship with Sheena, Melodee's best friend, is water under the bridge. Now it's time to get back to his original mission. "'Good. I don't want it to be the same. I'm not looking to be your friend anymore, Mel. I was your friend in high school and that was enough back then. We're grown now. A higher power brought you back in my life at the right time, can't you see that?' He glanced at the photo of his mother sitting on his nightstand. 'So now, I want to be your man. I've always wanted to be that to you and you know that.'"
The entire book I battled the concept of if Melodee was breaking 'girl code' by even thinking about the possibility of a relationship with Amir. No matter the conclusion, this was a great story. I loved every minute of it. It triggered so many emotions while reading. It was romantic, it was controversial and almost brought me to tears. If you're looking for a friends to lovers story with a splash of drama, this is the perfect read. I can't wait to dive in to the sequel.
I've been a Brookelyn Mosley fan but this is my favorite story by far! I love the detail she adds to the story and Melodee and Amir's love story is just too precious! I almost don't want to read the sequel because I want them to remain perfect!
Every girl knows not to violate the Girl Code, but sometimes there are extenuating circumstances. Melodee and AJ were best friends who did everything together, including their favorite pastime of smoking a little something. When AJ exclaimed that he wanted to be more than friends, Mel ignored him and then turned around, and hooked him up with her other BFF, Sheena the very next day.
Time passed as Mel went off to college and got married. Her and Sheena remained close friends. AJ aka Amir went on to be a famous singer. He and Sheena broke up in high school after she got pregnant and he forced her to have an abortion. He was just signing a record deal and didn't want a baby, plus he and Sheena were not in love. He actually loved Melodee.
Later, Mel found herself signing divorce papers because her husband wanted babies and she did not. She was career driven. Studying to be a Doctor of psychology. Sheena longed for a baby, but had complications after her abortion years earlier that were preventing her from carrying to term. AJ's mom passed away causing him to realize he was surrounded by yes men, with the exception of his boy Ant.
All of their lives took a turn when AJ saw Mel in a club after his concert. AJ finally got his chance to be with Mel, but there were consequences for dating your bff's ex. The stuff hit the fan, but later we got that HEA we all longed for, at least for now.
The sequel to this book is due out in Feb and I am looking forward to it!
Great short of Melodee and Amir. These two were BFF's in HS. However, Amir had a huge crush on Mel. Years later, after Mel has a chance meeting with Amir, she finds out a hidden secret. Her current BFF was someone she set up Amir with in HS. Will she break the girl code of never dating or sleeping with a friends man or will she give in to fierce temptation? Loved this story, it tells of sacrifice, and friendship. Sometimes what you always was trying to find was in front of you. Second chances don't come by often...choose wisely...Fabulous read..
This was a interesting story because the fact that the FMC slept with her friend of 13 Years ex boyfriend that got her pregnant in high school who pressure her into have a abortion. Also that friend blamed him for her lack of getting pregnant but all is forgiven when she got pregnant by her husband. This book was low-key wild.
I really enjoyed this book. Seeing how Amir's feelings for Melodee evolved over the years even though she wasn't even around was really nice. I understood the "girl code" aspect of the book with Sheena and Melodee but I also felt that it was unfair for her to blame Amir for how her situation when they were together was effecting her life as an adult and then to not want Melodee to be cool with him when they were friends first was crazy. I was happy she came around and Melodee was able to get her man and keep her friendship in tact. Overall I thought it was a well written book with plenty of spice and nice storyline.
Because the book was a novella it felt short. I.e I didn’t feel like Amir and Melodee spent a lot of time together. However, as they were great friends before it felt more believable. Basically when stripped of the fame and divorce they were the same people at heart. Because they didn’t spend much time together and Mel is not in the business, I have a sinking feeling that they will have issues later on. Amir was wonderful and so grounded for someone who has lived an abnormal life for 10 years. The author did a great job describing the business by the way. I’m glad Amir didn’t let pride stop him because I would have felt some kind of way that she picked her girl over me and only came back because they were cool. I understand that Mel was in a difficult situation and that she should have said something to Sheena before being papped but love should be above loyalty to a friend in this situation. A lot of time had past, realistically he was always in love with her, although he behaved like a teenage boy and went out with her friend. The whole abortion thing was awful, however Sheena hated him because she couldn’t be mad at herself. He told her how he felt but untimely it is her body and was her decision to have an abortion. On top of that, it sounds like it was a medical error which is not his fault. I was really upset with how Sheena behaved at first but I’m glad she redeemed herself. Ant is really the sort of friend one is blessed to have. Ride or die, fame and money doesn’t faze him at all. Instead he’s a great advocate for his friend and keeps it real.
This book was captivating. It was such a good story. I adore Brookelyn’s style of writing. She never fails to give her readers a page turner. Wow Amir and Mel had so much chemistry from the beginning of the book straight to the very end. Sheena though I understood where she was coming from was downright bitter and just awful. I hated her character. While I understood she was hurt I didn’t get why she was so bitter even though she claimed to be married to someone she loved and adored so much. Personally I feel like she only switched up in the end and was supportive because things were looking up for her but anywho back to AJ and his muse. Their transition from to relationship was so beautiful and the way he professed his love during that interview gave me goosebumps. The sex scenes were amazing and so spicy. Kudos to you Brookelyn. This was a well written story.
I believe Brooklyn has a new fan in me. Reading the story of Amir and Melodee just had me smiling each time Amir/AJ name appeared on the page. He had been clear about his feelings for Melodee since sophomore year even his mom knew that she was it. I love the development of the story and even the conflict with the befriend of Mel it was the perfect amount of drama to keep it interesting. Great work! 5 stars ⭐️
A friends to lovers romance is one of my favorite type of reads. I was on awe of the love that Amir had for Melodee. I totally get the girl code but sometimes life throws us curve balls that we can't dodge and Amir and his love was that ball for Melodee. I was happy that Sheena could get past her anger, and hurt and give her blessing to Melodee on the relationship. Can't wait to move on to Mr & Mrs Jones.
Ms. Mosley has found a super fan. I couldn’t put this book down and can’t wait to see how this story ends. AJ and Mel are love embodied and the author pens a relatable and hilarious at time story that’s send you on a journey to loving these characters.
Oh my oh my I loved this book such an amazing friends to lovers story. From beginning to end I refuse to put it down for a second I'm so glad that Sheena stopped overreacting so that her friends happiness wasn't affected..#Amir #bookbae was so dreamy and amazing and I hope the love him and Melodee share continues to grow..definitely an 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 read
This was such a cute story. I loved Melodee and Aj's relationship. Sheena worked worked my nerves, nobody forced her to have an abortion like she kept saying. If Sheena was a good friend she would have not given Melodee that guilt trip. I'm glad Melodee got an upgrade from nerves. Great story.
Amir and Melodee's pairing was not without controversy and drama. But their choice to be together was not one entered into lightly. And the heartache leading up to it was understandable and admirable! But what started out in a treehouse twelve years earlier would not be denied. And the way I saw it, girl code applied...until it didn't!
This book was such an easy read! It really held my attention and I could really relate to the love that they had for each other. I can't for the next book Mr and Mrs Jones!
This storyline included all kinds of emotions! Sad, angry, happy, excited....full of emotion. It had me thinking really hard about what I would do in the situations. I simply loved it!
This was such a nice story and I love how it begins. Amir and Melodee they start out as friends they have dreams that they're working towards and it is a really good story I don't want to give anything away it's worth the read.
This was a cute short story. Mel made her life complicated running for her “meant to be”. But, Amir wasn’t havent it the second go round. I’m rooting for them!
We always hear the statement bros before heauxs but it was good to read about how the ladies handle the same situation. The characters were relatable and likable which made for an engaging read.
I loved this story from beginning to end. I actually let a tear drop while reading. Amir and Mel have already grown on me, and I can’t wait to read the follow-up! Great job!
Melodee and Amir was destined to be together, I’on know why she passed him to her friend when she was in high school! I’m glad Sheena can finally carry, she needs that.
