Three Dimensional Dog: A Unified Theory of Canine Behavior

Rate this book
Three Dimensional Dog is a full-color, easy-to-understand exploration of the canine mind that answers the ultimate question, "Why did my dog just do that?" Through this journey we discover that everything a dog does, thinks, and feels is part of a larger, connected system of behavior; a system that unfolds logically over time, like a story with a beginning, middle, and end. What is revealed is a rational, child-like intelligence on a desperate search for connection within secure relationships. Dogs are no longer seen as simple, mechanical creatures, but rather as creative problem-solvers capable of open-ended innovation and clever manipulation. This book features high-resolution, color photography of the specific dogs that are discussed as case studies.

I have had dogs all my life and have read dozens of books on dogs and dog training. This book is by far the most comprehensive theory of the dog mind I have seen. McDonald not only has an easy to read style that moves between story telling, science, and philosophy seamlessly, he also provides the kind of anecdotal examples and humorous life experience that only a man who has dedicated himself to understanding the subject of dog behavior can accomplish. Reading this book while working with McDonald and our German Shepherd has been life changing. A must read for all who want to better understand themselves and their dogs.
