BlackThorpe Security #6

A Sense of Security

Rate this book

A SENSE OF SECURITY is book six of the Christian romance series, BLACKTHORPE SECURITY by Kimberly Rae Jordan. Follow the lives of the men and women working for BlackThorpe Security as they face the challenges of life, faith and love.

The BlackThorpe Security series is a spin-off from the Christian romance series, The McKinleys. If you haven’t read those yet, check out book one - THIS TIME WITH LOVE: A Christian Romance - and meet some of the characters who will continue to appear in the BlackThorpe Security series.

Marcus Black is beyond frustrated that he has lost yet another personal assistant. All he wants is someone who can do the job and not have to be coddled. He wasn’t sure about hiring Eric McKinley’s half-sister, Alicia Leighton, but since he’d been captivated by her when they first met at Eric and Staci’s wedding and he is desperate, he decides to give her a shot.

Alicia Leighton needs a job, so when she has the chance to interview for a position at BlackThorpe, she jumps at it. She’s heard that Marcus is difficult to work with, but Alicia doesn’t care. She wants the job and is willing to embrace the challenge of being Marcus Black’s personal assistant. What she hadn’t anticipated was having the intrigue she felt for Marcus turn into something more as she gets to know him.

Marcus has never had an assistant that worked so well with him, and he’ll do whatever he can to keep her, including protecting her when another threat against BlackThorpe comes to light. Marcus is forced to confront his past and tries to protect those who are important to him, but he finds his personal and professional lives are coming together in ways they never have before.

Secrets and lies have dominated Alicia’s life since coming to Minneapolis from California, but now someone is threatening to reveal them. Fearing that the revelation of her secrets will destroy the relationships she’s built, Alicia is faced with a choice. Will she be able to find the courage to tell the truth? Or will disaster take it all away from her, including the budding connection she has with Marcus?

Secrets and lies. Love and Faith. When everything falls apart, will there be a strong enough foundation on which to rebuild a business and a newfound love?

A Sense of Security is the final book in the Black Thorpe Security Series. Do yourself a favor and read this series in sequence because each book in the series needs the foundation of what has gone before.

Oddly enough, the heroine, Alicia, was introduced in the first book of The McKinleys Series where I became intrigued with her and, based on advertising teasers, expected her story as the final book in that series. To my dismay, her story remains untold until the last book of the Black Thorpe Security Series. Unfortunately, this necessitated putting up with reading eight poorly edited books with dropped and misused words as well as grammar and punctuation errors. Had it not been for my desire to learn Alicia’s story I would have given up on this author long before I got to Alicia’s story.

Nevertheless, I consider A Sense of Security as the best book I have read by Ms. Jordan. Even with editorial errors, she got my attention immediately and gave me a page-turning journey through the last page. But that journey did not begin on page one of this book. A dominant mystery was introduced in book one of the series and was advanced in each following book until its solution at the end of this offering.

Alicia Leighton's life is finally changing for the better: she has a great job working for BlackThorpe Security (even if it is the personal assistant for Marcus Black, who tends to run them off), has managed to maintain her Christian faith despite her mother's abandonment of it, and has connected with her biological father and his family in spite of the circumstances surrounding her conception.

But Alicia hasn't been completely honest about things; she's left a lot of things unsaid. What happens if she -- or someone else -- reveals the whole truth? Will it cost Alicia her job -- her new family -- maybe someone's life?

I didn't rate this book as high as the others. First, the plot feels rushed, as if KRJ was wanting to get the series finished. Also, one major plot line doesn't make any sense: given how Alicia's mother blamed her for all her problems in life (instead of looking at her own actions; nothing in any of the other books indicated that the affair was anything but totally voluntary by both Doug and Sherry), one could understand Alicia maybe wanting to maintain some level of relationship (in hopes that her mother will come back to the faith), but not for her to pay thousands of dollars she doesn't have for a legal defense when by all accounts her mother was guilty (and shows no signs of changing her ways in prison), not to mention going to visit her (again with money she lacks).

It would have been good to have a backstory on this (did Sherry "shame" her into it by saying "you know, Christians should honor their parents"), and also for someone to sit down with Alicia (and Marcus) and have a frank discussion about the relationship (Tori and Trent would be good candidates as they appear to be the strongest Christians in the series). Maybe as part of the plot line, Marcus agrees to pay off the debt, but in exchange Alicia limits her contact with mom to letters until she shows evidence of change, and then any in-person meetings include someone with a strong faith (again, Tori and Trent would be good candidates here).

The rushed plot line and the puzzling actions of Alicia which aren't completely explained, is why this book only gets four stars.

As usual, just in time!

With stories that never fail to convict, I was excited to read the latest Kimberly Rae Jordan! Riveting as the big Blackthorpe mystery wraps up, the unraveling of the web of deceit surrounding the newest McKinley, Alicia, keeps you guessing who the Mastermind is and whether she'll succumb to his machinations against Marcus.
A glimpse into the life of Merideth and the success of the service dog program really round out the story and keeps an excellent balance while making you hope she gets a happy ending of her own.

A great conclusion to the over arching mystery that has been present in all the books. I enjoyed getting to know Marcus and Alicia even more. At times I was first rated with the choices that Alicia was making but understood much more as her story was revealed. I’m still hoping for additional books with this group - the McKinleys and BlackThorpe. There are still characters with stories unresolved and I’ve really enjoyed all the interaction between the characters. A great read and two great series!

The sixth and last in the Blackthorpe Security series. I got all of these free from the Kindle Owners Lending Library. I enjoyed all the stories and characters and am sad to see the series end, but look forward to reading more by this author. Most notable, the McKinleys series, which apparently predated these, but I didn't know when I randomly selected the first in the series to read. Good books!

I enjoyed this book and the whole series. My only complaint about this final book is that it wrapped up too quickly at the end. It was hard to process everything as the villain was finally revealed. I wanted a longer epilogue :-) I went on and re-read the book about Ryan McFadden in the Callaghans & McFaddens series, A Little Ray of Sunshine. It has a few later updates about BlackThorpe people. I'd like to know whatever happened with Marcus' sister and other fringe characters!

W0W, just wow

Each and every book in the BlackThorpe Security series is absolutely amazing! I'm sorry to not have another one waiting for me to read! This series was begun not long ago, and I just kept on going through the entire series, one book at a time. I must say, it will be nice to get a good night's sleep now, though.
I appreciate having a great Christian story that also has a strong plot and such believable characters as well!

Marcus's relationships with his assistants comes as no surprise, since we haven't learned a whole lot about him in the series. We've SEEN plenty of him without really seeing him!

Alicia is hiding from so much in her life' when she is offered a dreamy job, her secrets start being threatened. Loved spending time with all the BlackThorpe employees and admin.

This story had me on the edge of my seat. I had a hard time putting it down. The threat comes to a end. There are a lot of things going on in this book. I won't tell you all the things so you can read it and find out for yourselves. I loved each and everyone of these books that was in this series. Hope you enjoy this one too. Love christian romances.

This book makes me sad to get to the end. All the stories, characters, relationships and barriers to relationships were challenging. I love the way Ms. Jordan presents the obstacles to the relationships in ways we may not have thought of otherwise. Always portraying God and His love, as the obstacle breaker. I look forward to the next series.

Wonderful series I fell in love with after reading for free through Kindle Unlimited. Sadden this is the last book in the Blackthorpe Security series. There are many possibilities to have continued with future books by exploring extended family introduced in the each book in this series.

Big Smile & a Happy Cry

Marcus and Alicia finding and getting their Happily Ever After after all of the pain in their lives as well as finally solving the mystery of who is attacking BlackThorpe left me with a big smile and a few happy tears. I LOVE this series!

Rae Jordan excels in her series.

It was the proverbial Beauty and the Beast. Jeff's weakness was appalling; he was motivated by fear. The madman was diabolical. Alicia could see beyond the gruff exterior in Marcus, and her love brought out the best in him.
