Life has brought very little joy to Anastasia Carter. Raised in an abusive household has left her with many scars, both physical and mental and the only thing that brought her peace, was knowing that the time was coming when she would be able to finally escape from the horrors that hid behind closed doors. She never could have imagined that her escape would come at the hands of a sorcerer who saved her from a certain death, or that she would have to give up her best friend and first love. When the sorcerer whisks her away to another world, she is shocked to discover that not only is magic real, but she was prophesized long before to be the one who could end the darkness that was being spread by a sorcerer bent on ruling all the worlds. She transforms form a victim into a warrior, and dives headlong into a war that had been raging years before she arrived. Now, ten years after disappearing from Seattle, she returns on the heels of her enemy, only to run into the boy who had lived next door to her throughout her entire childhood, only he isn’t a boy anymore. As he joins her in the fight to save both their worlds, Anastasia has to decide whether she believes giving in to her love for Dakota would be an unaffordable distraction, or her greatest strength.
Hi everyone!!!My name is Jessica and I started writing when I was a teenager. I have always had a love of reading and that influenced me to write my own stories!! I am married to a wonderfully supportive man and we have two beautiful kiddos together! I spent seven years in the Texas Army National Guard and after I got out, I started putting more time into my writing! My absolute favorite genre is fantasy romance or anything that is considered paranormal. The different worlds you can visit through those types of books absolutely fascinate me! I love red wine (its my end of the day treat to myself) and I am a sucker for sappy love stories, but who isn't right?
This is by FAR the BEST book I have EVER read!!! This author is extremely talented. I was intrigued the entire time, and I couldn't put the book down! I can't wait for the next book in the Prophecy Series. I am definitely a fan for life!! :) I highly recommend this book and this amazing author!!! LOVED IT!!!
I never tought I would like this genre . But because of Jessica I started to like it An unexpected plot ensures that you definitely want to read the 2nd book I love the author! She is such a good writer !
The Phoenix is a book filled with love, action and excitement. It had me glued to the pages from beginning to the end. I cannot wait for the second installment to come out.
I really enjoyed the first book in The Prophecy series. The author is skilled at creating alternate worlds, and really makes you feel like you're present with the characters. I have been very patiently waiting for the next book in the series, because I really enjoyed watching Ana's story unfold. I'm excited for the release of The Fighter this year!
What if a world existed beyond the one we know? What if you weren't the person you thought you were? What if the life you lead wasn't the life you were meant to lead at all?
A life of neglect and abuse is the only kind of life that Anastasia Carter has ever known. That is, until she's whisked away in the middle of the night to a land that she never dared to dream existed. There, in Terrenia, Anastasia learns not only that she is the daughter of a sorcerer, but that she is prophesied to defeat her dark and powerful uncle. As the years pass, she becomes far more powerful, but a light in her heart keeps drawing her back to Dakota, the boy she left behind in Seattle. I must admit, I spent the better first half of this book waiting for Ana and Dakota to be reunited. I'm a girl who loves her romance, and I'm especially a fan of the best-friends-first romance.
Jessica McCrory is a talented and passionate storyteller. This first book in her Prophecy Series, The Phoenix, truly reads as a labor of love. That love is reflected not only in her characters, but in her entire world of magic. I look forward to reading the second (and third!) book in her amazing series.
This is not usually my preferred genre, so I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. McCrory does a lovely job of creating characters you care about, and developing their connections. I'm excited to see what happens next!
WOW! If you are looking for more of a fantasy style book with an incredible world developed, a storyline that will have mystery, excitement and has you flipping pages as fast as you can read them, with a very sweet friend to lovers side story, then The Phoenix by Jessica Wayne is definitely for you!
It’s packed with action but something is off with that book. Too much of deus-ex-machina situations, one dimensional and flat characters, and I had an impression I was reading a fanfic. Even the cliffhanger does not convince me to continue this series.
Anastasia Carter has not had an easy go of life being abused by her father Mitch and ignored by her mother, Monica. She is protected the best she can be my her neighbor Dakota Parker but she is afraid of the reach of her father if she tells anyone what he has done to her.
When she is rescued one night by a sorcerer and brought to his home in another dimension called Terrenia she learns of a world full of magic and a man hell bent on controlling both worlds. As she gathers her own strength and magic she must go back to Seattle with the hopes of stopping him.
There she is brought back to Dakota and the two must work together to fight the evil that is against them. But will Anastasia find Dakota a help or a distraction?
This was a great book and I really look forward to the next one in the series.
Anastasia did not have a good childhood at all and she was confused at the lack of love she received from her parents and the abuse she had at their hands. But when Anastasia is taken by Gregory to Terrenia we learn the truth about her background and what has happened. I found this super interesting and I loved watching Anastasia come into her powers. I was heartbroken with a few of the events in Terrenia with the traitors and a few other things.
I loved that Dakota never gave up on Anastasia but I was sad at what it cost him and his family, knowing that Mitch was such an evil man. He followed in his father's steps and had a case that was linked to Anastasia unknowingly. He loved her so much but was really over his head with the enemies he was up against.
There were some great fights in the book and I loved how Anastasia kicked some serious butt in this book as she came to terms with her power. Certain people definitely got what they deserved but others did not.
The ending left me with a little bit of a cliffhanger not knowing what was exactly happening with a couple of key people and I am anxiously waiting to read the next book!
I love paranormal romances, it's like a second skin. The thrill of a world full of mystical creatures, Witches, Sorcerers...makes my blood soar. The Prophecy series by Jessica McCrory was a unique, angst ridden love story about a young girl who's life was build on a lie.
Anastasia Carter's life was filled with neglect and abuse. Terror after terror.... my heart instantly ached for the young girl, dreaming of finding away out of this hell hole.
And one night everything changed.
Thrust into a world she didn't know existed, Anastasia finds out her true parentage and is prophesized to defeat and destroy her demented cruel uncle.
Years go by, and day by day Anastasia gains new power. She is gaining strength, but her heart is not in the right place. It's back in Seattle..... her home town... with a boy she left behind.
These two worlds collide.... Dakota the boy longs to be with his best friend, and his wish comes true. But with it comes great revelations that comes with a price. With what happened in the past ten years, will they finally admit to their feelings, or with what Anastasia must do tear them apart.
The Phoenix was foretold years ago. A girl, whose life was full of suffering and sorrow would become the one to save the world. Anastasia’s home life was horrid. Dakota was the light in her darkness. They were life long friends and he wanted her safe, but she refused to leave. Gregory came to save her, and she ends up in Terrenia, where she finally felt at peace. She learned much of her past was just a front. Vincent was pure evil and wanted nothing more than her power. He put everyone she loved in danger. She is determined to find a way to defeat him only to fall into his trap. Dakota won’t stop until she is in his arms again. Excellent writing with a storyline that is just getting started.
Anastasia has had a hard life. Her father is abusive her mother ignores her . The only person she can count on is Dakota he helps when he can.till one night it all goes wrong and she leaves thur a portal with Gregory. Terrenia where she lives for 10 years. Till she has to go back home to face some terrible evils Dakota lost his best friend 10 years ago. He hasn't been the same since. He lost his father and became a cop. When one night he sees something unbelievable and there she is . Will they be able to over come the last 10 years or will it and what she has do destroy them both. The characters and the story are amazing. Make you laugh and cry and fall in love with all the characters can't wait to read more from her

Terrific. Fast paced, action packed, filled with magic, betrayal and the fight for freedom. Her father had abused her ever since she could remember. One night it goes further than before and with death looming she is able to escape with a visitor from another dimension. Who is he? Why are they constantly being attacked? Who is the leader of the attackers? Will she ever see the best friend she ever had? Tremendous characters, filled with vim, life and energy whilst the plot pulls you in to a land that is being torn apart by conflict. Is she really the one that can save them all?
Action, adventure, romance... this book literally has it all. But it starts in the darkness of a world where Anastasia just doesn't understand her own circumstances. Things change rather quickly and her true destiny is shown.
She was living a life of abuse and neglect in a home that was very unloving... until she got whisked away in the middle of the night by an assumed stranger...
Ana was born to be more than her human life showed her - she was born the daughter of a sorcerer, and is prophesied to defeat the big bad of a world she has yet to understand.
This was a fun story to read, with lots of twists, and characters that you will fall for almost immediately.
I flirt with fantasy when something catches my eye. I read this in a day and loved it! Jessica does a great job introducing the characters and different dimensions at the beginning so it is easy to follow along with their stories. The only thing I had a hard time with was when the book skipped a few years into the future abruptly but that didn't last long. It ended on a cliffhanger but in a great spot so I feel like the second book will pick up in a great spot. I'm so excited to start book 2! This is my first time reading one of her books but will soon read them all.
This story sucked me in right from the start and didn’t let up! I felt so many emotions while reading it – sadness, worry, fear, and anger as well as happiness, love and hope. Anastasia is an awesome heroine, and I couldn’t help but love her! She overcomes so much pain, hardship and loss to become stronger and better. The world that Jessica McCrory builds, with its dimensions, portals and magic, is unique and intriguing, and her villains are truly evil and despicable. Jessica is clearly not afraid to show no mercy to her characters (and her readers) and that definitely makes the story that much more emotionally charged. I highly recommend this book and am jumping right into the second book for more!
This is he first book of Jessica McCrory that I have read, and it won't be my last. I was blown away by how much I loved it. Usually I don't read fantasy books, but this one captured me from the start. Jessica has a way of creating not only this world, but a few other dimensions. This has love, lots of action, excitement from the beginning to the end. Can't wait for the second in this Series, The Fighter.
I was absolutely in love with the book start to finish! The author kept me on the edge wanting to know what was going to happen next. This story leaves you feeling everything from happy to sad and peace to worry for the main characters. It was definitely refreshing to see an author write without needing to explicitly describe sex scenes! I can't wait to get my hands on the next books in the series!
At first I had trouble getting into this book, but once I did it was amazing. Anastasia's entire life has been nothing but physical and verbal abuse. If it weren't for the friend and boy she loved she would leave it all. Until she world is literally turned upside by magic she never knew exsisted. Learning you are the keys to sad I g the world is one thought reappearing after ten years is another. I'm really excited to see what's next in this series and I can't wait to read it.
THE PHOENIX, the first in the Prophecy series, begins as a realistic fiction might. The author's intricately woven fantasy element adds another dimension that enhanced the plot. The suspense, love, and adventure kept me wanting to read more. I mean, What more does a girl want? I cannot wait for the second book in this series.
This book is a story at a second chance of love and full of love and family, after Ann life of being abused she is found by her father and taken back to were she had come from. This book is a fantasy and feels like you are right there. This book will keep you on the the edge of what is to come next.
I have to say I really enjoyed this book. This story mixes the world we know and one of fantasy and myths very well. It’s a compelling story that keeps you wondering what will happen next. I simply couldn’t put it down. This book is simply fantastic and I can’t wait to read the next one. This review was written on behalf of Amo’s book corner.
Kelsey Navarro really brought these characters and this story to life so beautifully.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The characters felt so real that at some points I wanted to coach them, lol. The world they inhabit intrigued me no end. The story sucked me right in and carried me through the book. I really need to know what is going to happen next...
I never tought i would like this genre . But because of jessica i started to like it An unexpected plot and you definitely want to read the 2nd book i love the autheur ! she is such a good wrighter
This is the first book I have read of this author and I loved it! So easy to read and so face paced. The characters really came to live with every turn of the page.
I am just glad I already have book 2 at the ready I don't think I could have stood the wait!
Holy hell!! This is one of the best books I've ever read! The story line is amazing the characters are so cool I definitely will recommend this book to everyone!! 10 out of 10 !!!!
The paranormal genre is always hit or miss with me, usually miss. But this book is a total hit! Jessica is an extremely talented world builder and I was extremely impressed. I loved it and cannot wait for book two!
