Unfettered Mind: the Importance of Black Male Mental Health

Rate this book
As a gay, black male committed to a life of the mind, Anthony Carter has created 22 essays that reflect his desire to usher in social change.

Initially, these articles came about because of the rash of gay youth suicides and his desire to ensure that society would not simply dismiss our young people. But what began as a project to prevent despair, soon became one that focused on a great deal of what was going on in the world and a series of solutions to create change.

Included here are essays that deal

* Why young black males continue to be among the group with the highest HIV infection rates (almost 50% of new cases in the last six years)

* Why barebacking continues (as explained by male hustlers)

* Why gay men suffer from crippling low self esteem which makes them take unfathomable sexual risks

* How to create loving relationships

* Insight into how as a young black boy who was "different", Anthony survived bullying

* And some very interesting views on things such as pornography, gay marriage and interracial gay male couples.

All of these creations are brought to you via the mind and viewpoint of a black gay male artist and teacher who has thrived despite a great deal of stumbling blocks and less than stellar personal decisions.
