Elf dae in Parys

Rate this book

This book was lent to me by an eleven year old and it thoroughly captured me! A fairly original fantasy/reality story set in beautiful Paris. It made me want to pack my bags and go straight to the city of lights! I had fun journeying with Emma on her school getaway and she had a few surprises up her sleeve! An easy, quick, quirky Afrikaans read that was highly enjoyable!

This book is absolutely disgusting!
It is supposed to be based on roman/greek mythology, but has basically no accuracy or regard for what the source material says. For instance; there are (according to the original mythology) nine muses. In this book however, only three at a time and the word muse is apparently a title passed down from generation to generation. This brings me to my next point: the timeline. This book has the most scrambled timeline ever. In order for it to make at least some sense, certain characters have to be over a hundred years old. As I said; nothing makes sense.a certain part of the book is a result of the statue “pan et oursons”. The statue of a satyr playing with two bears in the Musée d’Orsay. I was surprised to find that there is actually a similar statue in existence. The writer obviously has done next to no research for this book.
Over all I think it is an abomination and do not recommend it to anyone

Elizabeth Wasserman colours an ordinary school tour to Paris with myth and magical realism. Paris will never seem the same again! The adventure is convincing and exciting in equal measure.
