Growing up on the Autism spectrum in a neurotypical world, Jane has always been an outsider, even in her own family. Her father, Jed Hunter, is a federal judge, and she's never measured up to his high expectations. After law school, Jane joined a prestigious Dallas firm and built a stellar reputation. The moral quandaries never bothered her, as long as the cases were interesting...until Oscar Valentine.
After Valentine's grand jury doesn't indict him, Jane discovers his horrifying secret. To make matters worse, Oscar confesses his feelings for her. Jane's would-be lover wants to take her breath away. Literally.
Jane only knows one man ruthless enough to protect her, Byron Beauregard. Beauregard is a notorious former hitman and a mob boss in the Dixie Mafia. Can one killer safeguard her from another?
The devil's advocate.
The head of the infamous Beauregard family, Byron only cares about power and profit. While he hired Jane to protect his assets, he's more interested in hers. Unfortunately, she rebuffs his advances. Now, Jane's in need of his protection, so he'll exploit the situation, and then move on.
Yet Jane intrigues him--she tells him the truth, no matter how harsh. He finds himself fascinated, possessive, and playing the hero, for once in his life. Byron wonders if he might become a better man with Jane at his side.
And together, they'll stop a serial killer. Or die trying.
The Dixie Mafia Series books are all full-length, standalone romance novels with steamy sex, adult language, and a happily ever after ending. There are some disturbing themes which may be uncomfortable for some readers.
Cynthia Rayne is a USA TODAY bestselling author of the Black Star Security, Kinky Security, Lone Star Mobster, and the Four Horsemen MC Series. While Cynthia was born and raised a damn Yankee in Ohio, her parents hail from Dixie, and she grew up on homemade buttermilk biscuits and southern wisdom. In her spare time, she enjoys shopping, reading way too many romance novels, and drinking a truly obscene amount of coffee.
I liked the one. It had a different flow then the first one. I didn't get into Byron and Jane as much as Dix and Elle, but it was a good story.
The author sure has a dark side with her serial killer. He was down right creepy and scary.
Byron is sweet and caring under his mobster persona. I have to say he is very persistent and knows how to wear a person down! He is sexy in his southern gentleman way. Jane to me was hard to relate too and I think that is what the author was going for, but she was just blah to me.
I didn't really feel the connection between Byron and Jane, the ily really wasn't believable. The plot itself was interesting tho. Jane had Asperger's and we get a lot of lines like "people with aspegers....." Then whatever symptom Jane was experiencing at the time. It was just weird. We know Byron has wanted Jane for a while but she honestly didn't like him in the beginning and her change of feelings just didn't work for me.
Byron Beauregard is infatuated with his lawyer Jane Hunter, he gets pleasure from making her come to him when he knows it irritates her. When Jane's latest client, Oscar Valentine is acquitted of being a serial killer she doesn't realize that she just got a guilty man off and he is planning to have Jane as his.
Asking Byron for help is against everything Jane believes in, but she needs protection and it gives Byron the leverage he has been looking for to get closer to Jane. Byron accepts her and understands she is Autistic which many don't. As the noose tightens with Oscar Jane begins to wonder if she can build something with Byron, but will Byron's conscious get the better of him and let her go?
Great book, the end surprised me a bit though. I have really enjoyed this series so far it continues to get better. I liked Byron he is full of charm and his choice of words just make you melt. Jane is great, she is very matter of fact though s sometimes it has a negative effect. Wonderful story.
Oh my did I ever enjoyed this book. It was full action, love, heroism. Another alpha male standing up to protect what's his. Love this series so far. Job well done Cynthia Rayne.
I was excited to finally get to read Byron and Jane's story. I've liked her since she first appeared in the Four Horsemen MC series, and loved how she never let Byron run over her like he did with everyone else. I have come to like Byron, sometimes grudgingly. After learning more about him in this book, I was glad to see him get his HEA, especially when he was so adamant that it would never happen. ;)
This book had a unique storyline, complex characters, humor, angst, intense situations, suspense, violence, and intriguing twists, that I love most in all of Mrs. Rayne's books. So, why the 4 stars instead of the usual 5 that she earns from me? The mystery, and element of surprise that is normally present in all of her stories, unfortunately wasn't there in this book. Without revealing spoilers, which I refuse to do, it's difficult to explain. In this story, from early on I could tell exactly how it was going to end, which is rare for this authors work. It was just so blatantly obvious that it took away the excitement of the story, at least for me.
Don't get me wrong, this was a great book, and I loved it, just not as much as I have the previous books. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this series, and can't wait for the next book. If you haven't read this series, I strongly suggest that you do! I highly recommend this book, series, and fantastic author!
Since I've discovered this writer I have not been disappointed,I have been in love with every character and every moment. This was old fashioned romance done with the element of mystery thrown in to shake things up.I love the chemistry it is so good that you fall so effortlessly into the story. There is an easy flow to this story that you know what's going to happen the, then you don't know till it happening. This was a fun sexy read that you can read over and over and never get bored. My only ding is that I would have liked a better description of everyone involved in the story.Other than that this was such a darn good story.
I’ve waited so long to read Byron’s story. He was my favorite character in the four horsemen series—believe it. I love the fact that he was such a naughty alpha male; but he had a big heart, so what’s not to love? I also found Jane to be interesting, and didn’t expect her to bore me so much in this book. For once I was turning the pages quickly, but it was because I couldn’t stop reading, but because I wanted to see if the romance and steamy love scenes will start. I was truly disappointed. Great story if I was reading a mystery; but I wasn’t I was reading a romance book and I didn’t see much of that even after I was in 70%.
My first foray into Ms Cynthia Rayne was back in March of 2015 and I haven't stopped yet. Blood In the Water is another adventure into her special world of mayhem. Byron and Jane are far from your average love birds. But in true southern gentleman fashion he's going to save his damsel in distress by kickin a murder's lily white ass !! Just read the damn book and get the real deets ya'll.
I've enjoyed most of this author's books in the past but I had a hard time with this one so it's a dnf for me. It's odd that I liked both these main characters when they showed up in other books just not so much here. I will try the next one in the series, though, since I have a history with really enjoying this author's books. Will definitely read book 4 in this series since it has Justice and Etta May from the Four Horsemen MC series!
Once I started I couldn't stop and well ok Beauregard is a hot commodity. I won't give anything away and I won't hint at anything so don't ask. Consider it confidentiality of sorts you want to know get a copy, snuggle up in a safe and cozy spot and let the fun begin.....
This book should be 4 1/2 stars but I'm going more with 3 1/2. Why? EDITING, EDITING, EDITING! I'm not just talking a wrong word here, missed word there type of thing either. For example, was Jane 18 months old when her mom put her up for adoption or a newborn whose mom couldn't put her up for adoption because she died?
Well damn another hit for Cynthia Rayne, I first read about Byron Beauregard and Jane in the Four Horseman MC Books, I never really like him much kind of thought he was a jerk, but man was I wrong , I love the way he is with Jane they have a great chemistry together even if they didn't realise it . this book made me giggle, made me nerves it had many emotions in it, the story line was amazing, great characters and fantastic writing, can not wait for what come next!
This author surely pulls off a great and unique story of Byron Beauregard and Jane Hunter. Jane Hunter is one of the outstanding, law-bidding defense attorney in Hells, Texas; however, while defending a serial killer, Jane was in a sticky situation and needed Byron assistance. Byron Beauregard is a notorious underboss of the Lone Star Mafia and well known for his brooding, distasteful attitude, and womanizer. I loved the storyline with strong supporting characters development without being overdone. It covers two damaged characters with complex disorders and in dire need of a change in life. The plot point displayed angst, suspense, dark , gritty and violence. I won't go any further but know I literally couldn't put it down until I got to the end. I especially loved the page turning twists and turns. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
Gotta love the Dixie Mafia. Finally Rayne gives us Bryon and Jane. If you have read The Four Horseman then you know Bryon has been after defense attorney Jane for ages. Well when one of Jane's clients obtains an obsession with her she will turn to Bryon for protection but Mr. B has one rule she has to give him a shot at being more then attorney/client. Can Bryon save Jane from a serial killer? Will Jane succumb to Bryon's advances. So take a ride with Blood in the Water , you will not be disappointed. Happy Reading
Omg Cynthia Rayne has done it again. Byron Beauregard is in the Dixie Mafia and doesn't do love, he's had a thing for his lawyer Jane since she helped him out but she doesn't want anything to do with his advances. Jane goes to Byron to help protect her from a murder that's In love with her and he'll do what it's takes to protect her but Jane won't let Bryon get into trouble with the authorities to end the mess she has found herself in. this book is full of suspense and the complex of the people are awesome can't wait for the next book. 10/10

I've been fascinated by the sneak peeks we given of Jane and Byron's relationship in the other stories but this book blew me away!!!! Byron is no longer just the man you love to hate, he has a heart and Jane is phenomenal!!! This story has such an edge to it and is very heart breaking at times, but I feel experiencing the characters expanding hearts more than makes up for it.
Enjoyed it very much. Was looking forward to Jane and Byron's story after the lil bits in Flesh and Blood and it didn't disappoint. Loved him with her, since she has autism (I was expecting more from/about that to be honest) the whole relationship kinda goes at a different pace and I really enjoyed that. Throw in a crazy serial killer and it makes for one good read.
absolutely awesome addition to the series . I have been waiting for Jane's story. It was great to see how the author worked in Jane problem with certain social issues. My daughter also has Aspergers so it was interesting to read someone else point of views on things. Truly an amazing story make sure to pick it up .
This series just keeps getting better. I loved the dialogue between Byron and Jane. It's nice to read a story where the heroine speaks her mind. This can be read as a standalone but the series is great. Cynthia Rayne also writes the Four Horsemen MC series which is also great.
This book was crazy! Scary at times, interesting at others, it keeps you turning pages to keep up. I personally don't know about autism that much, just the basics and so I wasn't sure what to make of Jane at times. How can you not understand the dangerous situation I wondered. I really enjoyed Byron and his charm and how he works for it. Great book, can't wait for the next.
I've been waiting a long time for Jane and Bryon's story. It was worth the wait! This book showed another side to Bryon besides the blackmail hitman. It painted him as a man that is capable of loving and caring for someone. I can't wait for more from this series!
i was so glad to see Jane and Bryons book. I new they would get together in an exciting way. Jane finds love and acceptance -with a strong alpha male that has a good hart among the bad. Waiting for next book
This book was awesome .I have been waiting for what seems like forever to hear Jane and Byron story. It was a wonderful story that kept you on the edge of your seat. I was so happy to finally be able to read this book. Definitely pick this book up.
Obsessed with Byron! Fell in love with his badass in the Four Horseman Series. Love his character and Jane's so much. The push and pull they have made this a book I couldn't put down! Would have loved more sexy scenes between the two of them. Can't wait for Vick and Jasper
