When school starts, life should settle back into a normal routine, right?
Not in Bellingwood and not for Polly Giller. Rather than normal or routine, chaos erupts all around her. The school year has just begun and her kids face upheaval in their personal lives, Henry's parents lives turn upside down in mere minutes, and then, of course, Polly finds the body of someone whose life caused stress for her family and whose death could bring even more trouble.
Work on the Bell House will not move quickly enough for any of them. Hayden and Heath worked diligently all summer and it still doesn't feel as if they'll ever be finished. At this point, running water would be enough. The old building continues to reveal mysteries and surprises; things that don't appear until the walls and ceilings have been ripped away. No one in town knows what it's all about. This one might take some time to unravel.
To top it all off, Polly's birthday is coming up. She doesn't have time to think about that - not that she really wants to anyway. But even with everything that happens, family and friends are there to offer love and support.
First of all, huge kudos to the author on her very fine 16th book in the series! With each book, the writing gets better & better, and the characters are so familiar. What a wonderful series this has become. Almost as comforting as a nice cuppa on a cold day. My only issue is the unnecessary plot about Polly's "gift". The series is great w/o any more bodies popping up. At this point, it just feels so forced & odd. At the 78% mark, the author needed to move the plot to the ending and the wheels just fell off the bus. Luckily, it was a short-lived debacle, and everything was put back in good order at about the 85% mark. I look forward to book 17, and maybe the author will just concentrate on what she does best instead of forcing a plotline that simply does not work anymore in the series.
Well this has some interesting turn of events especially for Heath. But the one thing I love about these books is how much there is this network of family and friends that are there for each other. I know for a fact this does not have to be true just for a small town that can be true even for today. There is nothing more special than to have that network, to have that small village that you can rely on just as our author has created in Bellingwood. This is a place that I want to return to and it doesn't just have to be in another book. I can see myself rereading these books over and over to see how this network evolved and will most likely pick up on details that I missed the first time around.
These characters have been developed so much that they feel so real as does the town. A place I wish to go to and experience Bellingwood Day's. So for now I will just do so through the world that Diane created.
Loved it, more please :) I found the series right before Christmas 2016 and finished the entire series by the first week in 2017.
I am so happy to find an author I love, but now I have to wait for the next book like the rest of Diane's fans. On the positive side, she appears to be very prolific and the next book will be out in March 2017 (17).
Another treat from start to finish, Bellingwood. At its finest old friends that have become part of our lives, Polly's adventures and keeping us in suspense! Long may it go on!
Polly Giller and her beautiful family enjoy memories. Henry's dad in the hospital throws Henry for a loop but Polly and friends help tremendously. A couple of strange murders keep Polly's mind active and a new mystery at the house keep her searching for clues.
Polly gets a call from schoerol that Heath has a confrontation with a teacher and is suspended. Polly takes him home and give him the chore of working in the barn with the horses. The next day she needs to pick up a desk in Boone at the furniture store and gets there early and decides to drive around the building and finds a dead naked man with red paint on his body. They find out he is the teacher Heath had issues with at school. Polly has a birthday celebration for a week and she finds another dead body that's naked. She was not alone. Read this book to see what happens. You will laugh and cry with this one.
The kids are growing and Bell House is slowly starting to come together.
As Heath and Hayden are stripping out the lathe and old plaster, Polly finds a marking of a star with a gun on one side and a plow on the other. She already knows they made whiskey, but she doesn't know what this new marking means.
Heath gets into some trouble at school, but won't tell Polly about it till they are home and she forces it. Now there is teacher trouble and she does find bodies.....lol.
I love the Bellingwood books and this one did not disappoint me even though I felt it was different from many of the others. This story really focused on the family and not on the murder like most of the others before it. The murder investigation really seemed to me to retreat into the background while the family relationships took front and center. Enjoyed the family story very much.
With all of the mysterious items that Polly finds in the house and then has to solve the mystery I wonder how everything will get done. At least Polly may loose the finding of dead bodies but she still solves the problems and saves people. I enjoyed the book and can hardly wait until I begin the next one in the series.
I have just finished reading book #16 of this series and can't wait to start book#17. Each of these books is different although it is based around Polly and her family and friends. Polly has the unexplainable knack of finding dead bodies. However, that's not all these books are about.
Teachers are held to a high standard. The teachers in this book were bad and ended up murdered. Polly finds them both. Her kids grow closer to her and Polly. Bill has a heart attack and the crisis is real. Good read!
Wow, double murder, serious crime and Polly keeps getting Birthday celebrations from her friends and family! And I got some great ideas for gifts too 😉
It seems like the Bell house will never be finished. Even though Hayden and Heath worked all summer, so much needs to be done. All Polly wants is a working bathroom!
The house continues to produce more mysteries. This time, it seems like many of Polly's friends had ancestors who were involved. What does that mysterious symbol mean, and why is it all over the house?
Bill Sturtz has a heart attack, causing Henry and Marie to become VERY overprotective of him. Will he be able to come back to work? And what will happen to Sturtz Construction if he can't?
More changes and commotion surround Polly and her family in this next installment. That's Bellingwood!
Followed by Vignettes Book 8: 1. "Never Had a Friend Like Me" (Nate brings home a puppy) 2. "Order Up! (Lucy reminisces about some of her regular customers and meets a new family in town) 3. "Never Give Up" (Simon Gardner grumbles about Paul and Lisa Bradford always taking care of him until he discovers Paul's reason) 4. "The Body Electric" (Beryl shows up at Andy's in a crazy outfit because she's bored, and Lydia shows up with coffee and treats) 5. "Christmas Time Is Here" (Stephanie & Kayla celebrate Christmas)
I love these books! I am always waiting impatiently for the next one to arrive so I can visit my favorite small town in Iowa and all the 'family' there. This was a wonderful Christmas present this year, I just wanted company to leave so I could read it, and then I was so tired I fell asleep before I could get to it! I couldn't put it down when I finally had a chance to read and read it from beginning to end in one sitting. I can't wait for # 17!!
I want to live in Bellingwood, and be a friend of Polly. I have read all of the series in the last month and I'm sorry to see it come to an end! Great cozy mystery series, love getting to know the characters and seeing them grow. They are down to earth, dealing with realistic issues in today's world. Love!
Picked the 1st book to read because it sounded interesting. Have never been disappointed with any of the series! I love it when I have to force myself to put the book away to prolong my visit to Bellingwood!! I love all the books, they just keep getting better!!!!
I love this series and it isn't often you can say that about books that are low priced kindle offerings. I just wish for a long book that encompasses a longer time frame. I hate waiting for the next one. Just a note for people who care - there are few to none spelling or grammatical errors which is a nice bonus.
Maybe I just love this series because that area of Iowa is home. Maybe I just love the characters. I read it first because of the area and because I knew Diane Muir's grandfather but most I just love the whole series.
I love picking up a book and first page you're right back into the life of the book. Is been a while since I've finished the series and just happened see this new title.
I just love this series, the characters are great, the plots are fun to follow, I have never figured one out. Big pet peeve!! Now I guess I will start the waiting game for number #17. Please hurry
