Teaching through Reading and Writing in the Content Areas is evidence-based, designed to help middle and high school content teachers apply effective reading-related techniques for fostering comprehension of materials in their area. This book provides a core set of instructional techniques that are easy for teachers to implement and that do not encroach on the time spent learning content.
Very useful teaching reference (and guide) to teaching reading literacy skills as a ocntent area teacher. My two biggest complaints about this book are that it glosses over writing strategies to focus on reading-related literacy methods. It is also heavy on the science with very few examples to support other subjects, which is a shame because I feel like the book has valuable information to offer.
This is a solid introduction to using literacy strategies in the content classroom. I especially like the chapters on teaching for diversity and building prior knowledge as well as the one that discusses getting to know your students, materials and teaching.
