This book tells the story of a race between a hare and a tortoise. This story is a part of the genre of Traditional Literature. One thing children can learn from this is to not be boastful. Being boastful can be rude and arrogant to others who may not be as skillful as you. One other thing you can learn from this is that slow and steady wins the race. In the story, the tortoise came out victorious because the hare got very boastful and thought he could sit under a tree to relax a bit and still win. He was wrong and accidentally fell asleep as the tortoise past him. This is important because young children should learn to never underestimate others. This was a WOW book for me because it teaches good lessons to younger children and even adults who are boastful themselves.

I enjoyed how this retelling of the classic story added an extra element. The night before the race Tortoise got a good nights rest and in the morning ate a good balanced breakfast before the race. The hare, however, stayed up late and only drank juice for breakfast. I like how it teaches kids the importance of rest and eating breakfast to be prepared for the day.
