A frustrating "book" in that the premise is interesting, but it's very poorly written. This work badly needs both a developmental editor and a copy editor. The plot is uneven and inconsistent, and the protagonist is frankly irritating. Also, it needs a lot of help with sentence structure, word usage, and even basic punctuation.

The work is a first draft at best; it should not have been published in its current state. I hope the author gets proper editors for the next installment, if the story is continued, although I would recommend revising this edition and republishing it before any more of the story is released.

Synopsis:
Sophia is having a bad day. Scratch that. Sophia is having the worst day of her life. After losing her job, she is contemplating whether or not to move from London back home to New York, and then she meets the Scientist. Benjamin is in the right place at the right time and manages to bring Sophia's worst day to the brighter side.
Trust me. I'm from the future.

Sophia's dark and dreary life, or the way she sees it in her world she calls Sophina, starts to change. Ben helps her get her dream job as a photographer's assistant and together they begin to tackle their fears. Ben, claustrophobic after a car accident as a child, and Sophia, self-diagnosed asexual, explore each other's lives and open themselves up to forming a strong relationship based on trust.
Memories aren't objects, but images in one's mind.

But Sophia begins to experience flashbacks to a truamatic childhood event and unexplained blackouts. At first, Sophia and Ben aren't concerned, until Sophia begins to blackout more often and Ben connect the dots. With a little effort, Ben discovers what has been going on with Sophia and how to fix everything so that they can live happily ever after.
Take it to the start, take it to the start.

Review:
I didn't love nor hate this book, to be honest. I think this particular book just isn't for me. There is nothing really wrong or horrible about it, but I'm not in love, running out of the door, shoving this book in the face of everyone I meet.

I think the concept is great, and I honestly didn't see where it was going right away, but there were moments that felt forced. Sophia constantly references Sophina, her little inner world where her alter ego, the Latina, lives. In the beginning, I didn't mind being brought into Sophina, but in the end, I was really tired of reading "Sophina." There were also moments where the writing was just mediocre and felt like filler, as if there was a case of writer's block.

But, this book wasn't all bad. I mean, I did read it all in one day and used it to check off two BTAT17 challenges. The core story was really interesting and there is a sequel to Sophia and Ben's story. I just don't know if this book was for me, at least, not right now.

So while I would recommend this book to someone who loves a little mystery or contemporary fiction, I wouldn't recommend it to myself.

However, I will most likely read the sequel because THE ENDING LEFT ME HANGING (I mean that in a good way)! I can't leave a series unfinished either, so I hope the moments that bumped this to a 3 star rating for me are just a glitch in the code and few and far between and that part 2 delivers a riveting conclusion.

Take Me To The Sequel!

Benjamin (The Scientist) and Sophia (alter ego Latina, a.k.a. Sophina) are unusual but relatable and memorable. This is not your typical contemporary romance! Highly recommend!!!!!

I was so glad to be able to connect with the author of this amazing read on Instagram. I was pulled in from the first page and found myself listening to the song which inspired it over and over. Now anytime I hear the song I think of this great read and how I can't wait for book 2!

This is a book about a Latina Woman, names Sophia. She's not your average woman i suppose you could say. . She has what some would think of as a split personality and what she describes as her "Alter Ego, named Latina". She creates her own space inside her head with the combination of her race and name. Sophina. On a very bad day, she crosses paths with a complete stranger with a sad past. Slowly he starts to try to help her and then they eventually agree to fix eachother..

But as it seems.. strange things start happening. She likes him but she feels the need to ruin things all the time so she runs from him only for him to pursue her because he finds her intriguing. At the same time she In a weird way wants to do the same...

this is such a weird story but yet I cannot seem to stop reading it. With every page I read it gets stranger and it comes across as a mystery I want to unravel. . The characters are Beautiful and broken and you want to see how they fix eachother. it's almost romantic but yet it isnt..

Things get weirder when Sophia receives a letter in the mail which she thinks is from Benjamin and Benjamin seems to know something about it and accuses Sophia of sending it. She only remembers reading it and blacking out. .

I definitely suggest reading this book if you like strange things. it's not titled as a mystery or romance novel but it's a mixture of the two..

I was EXTREMELY excited for this book. The premise of it pulled me in and the 1st pages of when Benjamin was a child was terrific, then you get to the main character and it all just fell flat for me. She was the best example of a female lead I do not like to read about. After one day of meeting Benjamin she goes as far as stalking him and then gets mad when he tells her she should stop. I don't know I just really didn't like the way this was presented once we switch over to Sophia's pov and i knew i wasn't going to continue on past that point.

This is a story that is full of romance, science, childhood trauma, and ordinary life that is not as it truly seems.

When I began this book I admit I did not read all the cover where it said that Volume 1. So I read it as a book that was just a book. What I liked about it was that it was full of stuff that had you from the beginning. I loved that when it was from the heroine's point of view regarding a article about the hero she was “science blah blah blah.” That made her more human. When it was the Hero talking about science there was actually science theory and terms used but it a way it sounded very plausible. It was well written and kept my interest through out so much I wanted to continue. It was like a great episode of your favorite series that hits you with a “To Be Continued.”

I am not big on swearing in books and actually that was my only complaint. They talked about sex and different sex acts but it was not hugely graphic. I have seen more sex scenes in a Harlequin novel.

I read this story in 4 hours. I would not put it down.

I rate books differently than others. I use my stars as

(*1) Will keep, reread, buy and pass on another copy and promote the author as best as I can.
(**2) Will pass on and share with others it was a great book.
(***3) Will donate it to thrift store. Glad I read it but not worth reading again.
(****4) Not worth reading, great for a fire starter though.

This was a 1* for me. I have already began telling my family about it and I am eager for the next novel to see where the hero will end up next.

Take Me To The Start is the thought-provoking story of Sophia, who meets Benjamin King, an enigmatic British scientist, on one of the worst days of her life. Benjamin is everything she ever wished for, and understands her in ways no one ever could. But then he disappears, and Sophia is more heartbroken than ever…

Until she makes the decision to go on a missoin to find him. When she does find him, she discovers that if they want to be part of each other’s worlds, they will have to deal with their dark pasts… Pasts they’ve both worked very hard to hide.

They can’t be together until they face their fears. But can they find the courage to do so?

This was a very relatable book, with a heroine who is both complex and intriguing but also the kind of character you feel an instant connection to. The plot was unique and suspenseful, and although I could sometimes anticipate what would happen next, other times I couldn’t anticipate that at all.

An engaging read for people who enjoy reading thought-provoking, moving books.

A stunning entry for a series with a powerful hook. Listen to how it begins with the nine-year-old kid: “‘everything is possible.” Mutters the kid to himself, trying to figure out how to fix the camera he’s holding. The kid is nine. This camera is special to him. He built it himself.” In this opening the reader is already hooked with the crisis — the broken camera. But then there is the curiosity to find out how a nine-year-old kid can possibly build a camera. Here is a promise for a story that will surprise and amaze readers.

Here is a refreshing voice in the area of fiction, articulating on loss and the courage to face one’s past. Well-written, with memorable and compelling characters that will put readers at ease and make them look at life and reality even differently. I was pulled in from the beginning and couldn’t stop until I turned the very last page. Take Me To The Start by J R Kavit is both entertaining and motivating, a great story beautifully told in a voice that is re-assuring and clear. Waiting for the next book in the series.

I really enjoyed this book. It was odd and quirky but fun to read. I enjoyed the attraction of opposites and how both had trauma issues. The book ended on a cliffhanger and I was so disappointed there wasn’t a sequel because it’s been a few years. Please don’t leave us hanging. The ending was unresolved but I could have read the sequel immediately. The author is extremely talented and knows how to tell a compelling story. Please please finish the series!!

I can't figure out how this book has such high ratings. It started out interesting, as kind of a romance with a hint of science fiction. Then it became a totally unbelievable romance, and finally ended up as science fiction - with no ending! The main character Sophia was sort of intriguing as she dealt with her past and tried to figure out her future and used her inner alter ego to give her strength. But "the scientist" was totally unbelievable. And the time travel element was so strange - not really a machine, not really clear how the genetic manipulation related to the time travel mechanism - that part was really confusing. But then to struggle through the whole book to see what the conclusion would be and then be presented with NO ENDING was extremely frustrating. That made my rating go down from 3 stars to 1. It is totally unfair for an author to do this to the reader. It's fine to leave a few things unresolved to entice us to read the next book in a series, but to totally leave everything in the middle of a climactic scene with absolutely no resolution is unfair and makes me want to totally avoid anything else by this writer.
