Christmas Town, Maine #24

The Magic Stocking

Rate this book
When Ellie Griffith comes to Christmas Town, Maine, to sell socks, her overachieving family accuses her of running away and extending her lifelong habit of never finishing anything she starts. In her heart, broken by being left nearly at the altar, she thinks they’re probably right, but she has to try one more time. The last thing she wants to do is meet a man. Patrick Nolan, the seasick-prone, dyslexic son of a fisherman and a librarian, owns a Christmas tree farm outside of Christmas Town. He’s grown used to being the family disappointment and loves the direction his life has gone. He’d like to have a family of his own, but his history of rushing into relationships has left him gun-shy about love. But then the manager of the new sock store slips on the ice right in front of him. Maybe, just maybe, the stories of magic in Christmas Town are true.

Retired from the post office, Liz Flaherty spends non-writing time sewing, quilting, and doing whatever else she wants to. She and her husband Duane live in the old farmhouse in North Central Indiana they moved to in 1977. They’ve talked about moving, but really…40-plus years’ worth of stuff? It’s not happening. It would require removing old baseball trophies from the attic and dusting the pictures of the Magnificent Seven, their grandchildren.
Liz thinks one of the things that keeps you young when you quite obviously aren’t anymore is the constant chances you have to reinvent yourself.

I loved this sweet story set in Christmas Town, Maine! It was fun reading about the single socks and their suggestions. Ellie’s sock store had just the right amount of magic in it. The love story between Ellie and Pat was endearing.

Delightful tale of growing into yourself

Ellie leaves the overprotective shelter of her parents' home in Southern California to go run a sock and glove shop in Christmas Town, Maine. Her parents and sister are successful and high achievers. She feels out of place with them. Pat comes from a seafaring family but gets seasick looking at a boat much less, getting on one and his dyslexic affliction makes reading a challenge. When they meet, the magic is ignited. Throw in families, an ex boyfriend, a best friend, and a mysterious Christmas stocking and you have a delightful, uplifting Christmas story. Highly recommended for a sweet infusion of holiday spirit.

I loved this book. I love this book bec it's redeeming for Ellie. She found her successful place in the world. Ellie came to Christmas town and opened a sock store. Ellie came up w so many interesting things to make the store successful. She met a man who immediately wanted to date her. So a lot of the book is about their dates. Even though she felt less confident in herself bec her parents treated her like she could never be successful at anything. I love the book also bec there was a great ending.

This is the 1st book I read by Liz Flaherty. I'm sorry I stopped reading this story 📖 at chapter 3 because it didn't grab my interest.
