Hiking is one of Jaden’s favorite pastimes – especially when it’s with the group of friends he’s known all his life. And this annual hike to the Shadow Mountains is the best hike of all. But this year, something’s wrong. It starts with the blood-curdling noise that cuts through the mountain stillness. A noise that none of his friends apparently hear. Worse, is the feeling that he’s been waiting all his life to hear it. And then he sees a creature so horrendous is makes his nightmares laughable. Malice emanates from its very core. But none of his friends can see the monster either. Why is he the only one who can see or hear it? Is he really suffering from altitude sickness like his friends claim? Or is it truly there and will it annihilate him before his friends can see it to stop it?
From the gold mines of Africa to the glorious Bay view’s from Golden Gate Bridge to the spectacular Rockies, Bronwyn is an explorer at heart who loves to solve mysteries and avidly listens to audiobooks while playing in her sandpit (aka gardening). When she’s not juggling the many balls she has in the air, she’s following her passion and writing books for young adults.
These are always difficult reviews for me to write. I have all the respect in the world for writers who boldly put their work out there! Unfortunately this book just wasn't for me, although the premise was good, it was way too young adult for my taste. I also felt the world-building was weak and characters under developed. And maybe not quite so many adjectives. Perhaps for a pre-teen audience the story would hold more appeal than it did for me. But with that said, you go Bronwyn! Write your books and share your stories; thanks again for the ARC in return for my honest review.
An exciting adventure through a world of monsters and mysteries. I found the story delightful and riveting. A must read for anyone looking for a unique action adventure with endearing characters who just want to do the right thing to not only save themselves but the world around them.
