This one's definitely got more of a "collection" format since there's no overarching narrative for the whole book.
- a non-sentient kitty has been catnapped from a top-secret science facility and DW has to find who's responsible & save the orange fuzzball. Twists upon twists!
- the family goes to a comic-con (now with MORE comics) and an artist accidentally brings back to life a one-off supervillain from the cartoon; really a great chance for the artist to flex how many different styles they can homage since the villain's power can let her jump into any book like Gumby.
- somebody REALLY wanted to fuse Attack of the Killer Tomatoes with "the Walking Dead" as seemingly innocuous tubers are latching onto people's faces and turning them into mindless zombies. What's surprising (besides two characters dressing up as Daryl Dixon and Negan) is that in spite of his blowhard attitude & general stance on bad guys being vile villains, Darkwing Duck shows a great amount of empathy&sensitivity towards Bushroot this time since this vile vegetable plot was not his but the perpetrator was still someone close to the knockoff Poison Ivy.

Merciless tease at the end since this is the end of the series, but it was fun while it lasted.

Even more great and wonderful Darkwing Duck stories that feel like they picked up right where the television show left off. My only complaint, and the author even addresses this, is that Darkwing Duck wears a turtleneck and not a tie.

First of all, I'm pleasantly surprised we got this collection, what with the Darkwing Duck comic meeting an untimely end. Anyway, a fun collection of stories, with a remake of the Disney Adventures story featuring Fluffy, the return of Splatter Phoenix, and a Bushroot story that was perfectly timed for October reading. I would have been OK with a reprint of the actual DA story instead of a remake, but it was fine; Splatter Phoenix's return gave us a fun ride through comic genres (only the manga parody fell a bit flat) and lots of eye-candy references; and the Bushroot storyline made a nice finale for the comic. It's a real pity we won't be seeing more! Especially with all the hints towards future storylines seeded throughout each issue... (A-)

My childhood wrapped up in a comic book. I do hope they continue with the series as there is more to learn about other villains and more story lines to finish up. If you loved DW when he was on Disney Afternoons, you will LOVE this comic and the nostalgia.

This was a fun pun-filled trio of stories. Tho the middle story (the sort of homage you'd expect for free comic book day) felt forced. The final (two-issue) story was the best of the three and I lost track of all the movie references, which was kind of amusing.

So last year I did this thing where I abstained from consuming anything Disney, which obviously included Darkwing Duck. For an entire year I agonized over not being able to finish the comic, and then another half of the year agonizing over not being able to watch DuckTales. The fact that I even remember somewhat vaguely that I was becoming less impressed by how the comics were going - which somewhat reminds me of shows being lackluster after returning from an abrupt writer's strike - was crushed out by the blinding pain of I Want to Have More Darkwing Duck But I Am Doing an Experiment Examining the Slow Swallowing of Media by the Disney Corporation.

I came back and maybe absence makes the heart grow fonder and then somewhat disillusioned when confronted with the actual thing.

I can't really put my finger on what doesn't ring right to me in what feels like Season 2 of the Darkwing comics, but it was there. It doesn't completely overwhelm what makes it good - it's funny, the art is great, Darkwing is Darkwing, but it's like there was a definitive idea for the first volume that was completed and executed nicely. After that, there's nothing to build to, so I found a bit of a harder time flipping pages. I didn't mind the return of Negaduck, being that he's such a cool, defining character of DW, and this is comics after all, but I did feel a little irritated at the return of Quakerjack, one of the strongest ministories of the previous volumes. It keeps coming back to the feeling of build up that the previous run had that this run keeps backtracking on because the well is dry.

I don't hate it, I don't even dislike it. If anything, it's returned to the episodic daily feel of the 90s cartoons - and that's fine. But the Duck Knight Returns felt so unique and surprisingly deep! It felt like having a larger plot gave it a center and gave me a new appreciation for it. It's not the worst thing in the world to lose that - it's just a little sad.

And then it got cancelled - again - so we're back to square one.

I didn't like the first story which had me disappointed after loving the first volume so much, but the rest of the stories were great. I enjoy Darkwing even more now that I know so much more about comics.
