Oscar and Emmy Get Rescued is the first book in the Oscar and Emmy series by Terri Sabol. It starts this whole series, as we get to see how Oscar and Emmy became part of CJ and Lara’s family. The story/series was inspired by the author’s own fur-ever-family members adoption experience.
This is a sweet children’s story that is woven around some really cute illustrations. As the story unfolds, we learn about animal shelters, rescue, and adoption- while Oscar and Emmy worm their way into our hearts.
Another great instalment in the Oscar and Emmy series.
The Series contains (so far):
-Oscar and Emmy get rescued (Book #1)
-Oscar and Emmy Weather a Hurricane (Book #2)
-Oscar and Emmy Visit Grandma (Book #3)
-Oscar and Emmy Visit the Vet (Book #4)
-Oscar and Emmy’s First Christmas (Book #5)
-Oscar and Emmy Gain a Friend (Book #6)
-Oscar and Emmy Lose a Friend (Book #7)
-Oscar and Emmy Foster Kittens (Book #8)

Oscar and Emmy Get Rescued: A fun story about rescuing, adopting, and adding cats to your family. Oscar and Emmy Get Rescued: A fun story about rescuing, adopting, and adding cats to your family. by Terri Sabol

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a cute read about a family that adopted two kittens. Twins, Charlie and Abby are excited when their mom comes home from her first day volunteering at the animal shelter. They want to hear all about her job. Mom explains the process to adopt a pet to the twins and then tells them about a momma cat that came in with a litter of kittens. Charlie and Abby are immediately interested in the two remaining kittens who are also brother and sister. This was the first book I have read in this series and by this author.

This book is a part of the Oscar and Emmy series, but can definitely be read as a standalone. This book is great for families thinking about pet adoption for the first time, though it can definitely be enjoyed by classes or other groups as well. When CJ and Lara's mom comes home from a day of volunteering at the local animal shelter, she tells the children of her wonderful day playing with kittens, and then informs them that they will be allowed to adopt one of the last two kittens. When the three of them go to the animal shelter to look at a pair of kittens that were the last of their litter, the family ends up choosing to bring both kittens home. This book is a great introduction to the adoption process, as well as the world of animal shelters and how the operate.

Having already read other books in this series, it was nice to go back to the start and see where it all started for Oscar and Emmy. This book is everything we have come to expect from the series. It is heartwarming, joyful and so much fun to read. The book does a fantastic job of educating the readers about the adoption process, all the while making you fall in love with the animals.
The illustrations in this book are some of the best we have seen! They are full of life and beautifully put together. They complement the story so well and make the characters that much easier to read about. This is a brilliant story that was lovely to go back to.

Oscar and Emmy Get Rescued: A fun story about rescuing, adopting, and adding cats to your family by Terri Sabol. This is such a good series. This is the book that starts it all and it tells us how Oscar and Emmy find their home. CJ and Lara are kids that are wanting to get a kitten so this book explains the process of adopting kittens. Its teaches kids that kittens aren't just play things that they are living things that have to be fed, watered and taken care of. With wonderful illustrations and a heart felt story its the perfect story for kids to better understand the process of adopting animals! It would make a great addition to your favorite child's library.

The books about Oscar and Emmy are informational, easy-to-read, and cute. My girls loved learning about how adopting stray animals works, and they’ve heard me speak about spaying and neutering animals because we have dogs and cats.

Mom works at the shelter, and meets Oscar and Emmy while she works there. The rest of the kittens have already been adopted so Mom and Dad take the kids, Charlie and Abby, to meet them. They take the kittens home for a 5-night test period to make sure everyone gets along and no one has an allergies. At the end of the 5 nights, it is decided that the family will keep Oscar and Emmy.

Oscar and Emmy Get Rescued By Terri Sabol

Oscar and Emmy Get Rescued is part of the Oscar and Emmy Series. This is a cute children’s book that children ages 3-8 can enjoy. The colorful illustrations help bring the story to life. Oscar and Emmy are born to a momma cat that’s a stray. The kittens are rescued by an animal shelter where they are adopted. This is a cute story that shows children the important process of adopting a pet and the responsibilities that go along with it. My son and I truly enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend reading it. We look forward to reading more from this Author.

I have read a handful of Oscar and Emmy stories, but this one seems to be the story that started them all. I love that it is inspired by the author's life experiences with adopting her cats. It finally clicked where their name came from, and I never knew the kiddos were twins! It's nice to have the back story of how the cats and humans became a family. There is good education on adoption process and good tips. My only complaints is not explaining the bigger terms that are likely unknown to kids, or at least my son- like what a microchip is and what spay and neuter means (even in basic terms). I love these stories and this is great for any cat lover or potential adopter.

Oscar and Emmy are two kittens whose mother was a stray, the family of mama and her five kittens were found and rescued by a local animal shelter where they checked them over and made sure they were ready for adoption.

All the other siblings and mum were adopted and that left Oscar and Emmy still waiting, that was until a volunteer and her family fell in love with them immediately and decided to adopt them.

This is a heartwarming story which explains how animal shelters work, what happens when a stray cat is brought in and the wonder of the adoptions, and how this small act of kindness can bring a lifetime of joy to the animals who are rescued.

Each book in this series has been incredible with helping our kiddos understand the many different needs of pets. This one focuses on rescuing stray animals and the adoption process. The illustrations are wonderful in keeping the younger kids’ attention and add more depth to the story itself. I love that it teaches more than just how great it is to go pick up an animal as it educates the entire process. This would make a wonderful addition to any home, classroom, or daycare! I highly recommend picking these up for the younger ones in your life.

This book is super cute and super informative. Inspired by her own kittens adoption story, the author takes the time to explain in an easy to understand way the process of getting cats ready for adoption. She goes through each step and tells the reader the importance of each step to ensure the health and safety of the cats. All of this is done through the mom of two siblings. She also explains how adoption is a family decision not a single person‘s decision in a family. This was a wonderful book and a great way to explain animal adoptions to kids.

I believe I have read all of the other books in this series. To finally read how these kitties get rescued is really awesome. These books always have a ton of info available for not only kids, but parents as well. Sometimes kids ask a lot of questions, and parents can find it hard to explain it on their level. These books do really well with that when it comes to rescuing cats, taking care of them, bringing them to the vet, etc. It's an easy read and very entertaining for kids of all ages I believe.

Oscar and Emmy tell the story of how the two precious cats came to find their forever homes. Both kittens were born to a stray cat, who was rescued and brought to the shelter where Mom works.

Like the others in the series, the book is heartwarming and educational. It illustrates the entire process, from the actual rescue to pet adoption. I even learned some things I didn’t know.

I have been a massive fan of this cute little series for a while now! Like all the other books, it’s beautifully engaging and will keep young readers' attention. What is so special about this particular book is that it is inspired by the author’s adoption of her own two kittens. This is a must-read for animal lovers.

This story follows a new litter of kittens who were found in a family’s backyard. They were taken to the animal shelter to be evaluated, vaccinated, and prepped for adoption!

We love how this book educated the reader on what happens when cats go to an animal shelter and how they are cared for by the staff. It is so fun to hear the possibilities for names and where they might get to go to find their forever home!

This is a great book to read with kids of any age, but especially young ones and especially if you're looking to adopt a pet. Done through rhyme, this book tells of how Emmy and Oscar were born to a stray momma cat, then sent to an animal shelter, and then finding their fur-ever home with a new family.

The illustrations are also very well done and young children will enjoy seeing the playfulness of Emmy and Oscar throughout the story.

It's a totally delightful story that walks a child through the process of adopting a rescue animal. It's easy to understand. It opens a conversation between parent and child. It may even help get a rescue cat a new home. I have enjoyed this series a lot. My grandchildren have requested it numerous times. Getting to read their origin story is a treat. The pictures are colorful and will gain the childs attention. It's a wonderful book.

This is the beginning of the Oscar and Emmy series and it's just as cute as you'd expect. I love the way Sabol ties in important life lessons with her stories and how important it is to volunteer and help those in need. I also love how she stressed that adopting animals is a family decision. We also learn how Oscar and Emmy get their names and the meanings behind them. I love the illustrations in the book and how well they go along with what is happening.

This is an absolutely beautiful book. While many people can get animals many places this truly shows the importance of getting around and finding your perfect animal and who works best with your family. It shows the beauty of adoption and how meaningful adopting a pet is. It goes through emotions and how the animal and family feel. While this is wonderful for children, it can also reopen the eyes of parents to see the beauty of adoption.

Oscar and Emmy and kitten siblings. They need new homes. Abby and Charlie are also siblings. They want a kitten, and their mom is volunteering at a shelter. So what do you think? Will Charlie and Abby get a new kitten? Will they get to pick Oscar or Emmy? I love that this story has a true background. This is a story about the author's cats. So interesting as she walks you through the adoption process as well. Cute story and the children will love it too.

I have read many of this authors books and as always this is another great children's story. The author uses delightful characters and has a great way to help children learn important things. The way the author brings the characters to life. The reader is really entertained. These books are great for younger readers . My only regret is my children are too old for these stories. I would definitely recommended this author's books for anyone looking for a good series for kids.

This is such a good little book about rescuing animals from an animal shelter. It takes you through all the steps from finding the stray animals to them being placed in an animal shelter. They are given medical treatment and are cleaned up and given names before being adopted. This book would be a good book to read to children before they started looking for a pet. The illustrations are fantastic!

Oscar and Emmy Get Rescued by Terri Sabol

I read this book with my two sons - D (age 6) and S (age 3). This is such a sweet story and easily relatable. If you are trying to explain the concept of adopting animals and giving them a second chance, this is the book for you!

A review from an actual kid:
D - ”I can’t wait til I’m old enough to rescue animals. They all deserve a warm bed to sleep in.”
S - “The kitties got a new home!”

We gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.
