Nisio Isin (西尾維新 Nishio Ishin), frequently written as NisiOisiN to emphasize that his pen name is a palindrome, is a Japanese novelist and manga writer. He attended and left Ritsumeikan University without graduating. In 2002, he debuted with the novel Kubikiri Cycle, which earned him the 23rd Mephisto Award at twenty years of age.

His Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari and Katanagatari novels have been adapted into anime series. Nekomonogatari (Kuro) has been adapted into an anime TV movie, and Kizumonogatari will be release in theaters this year. Monogatari Series: Second Season, adapted from 6 books in Monogatari Series will air in July 2013. Another of his works, Medaka Box (manga), has been adapted into a two-season anime series.

Well, it's my first time listening to an audiobook, and wow now I get why some people like them so much.

My thoughts after reading the Bakemonogatari 1 audiobook (Japanese)
Written by NisiOisiN
Narrated by: Hiroshi Kamiya

The story:
Well, this is the first book of the Monogatari series.
It contains the stories Hitagi Crab and Mayoi Snail.
The best way I can summarize both is: A story about a girl who has lost her weight and a girl that can't seem to find her mother's house.

Enjoyment:
well, story-wise I've always enjoyed more Mayoi snail over Hitagi crab.
And narration-wise, it was absolutely mind-blowing. The audiobook is 7 hours and 52 minutes long. Hiroshi Kamiya's voice and absolutely incredible narration made it feel half that time

Japanese:
Well, this is an audiobook completely in Japanese, how difficult was it to understand?
To be honest, I've never considered my Japanese listening comprehension skills to be good, but I was positively surprised by how easy I found it to understand.

I even got the feeling that I would understand the book less if I were to read it lol.
Overall it used some complex vocab and grammar, but nothing was really impossible to understand.

Thoughts:
Wow, this is the first audiobook I ever listen to and it was such a nice experience.
I expected it to feel like a Bakemonogatari anime episode just without the visuals (And ofc that wasn't the case).

Kamiya's voice was surprisingly pleasant to listen to, and just how he gave each character its own voice without making it sound forced or uncanny blew my mind. I guess that's what you get from a very good VA making an audiobook.

The verdict:
The story is a classic, the narration is exceptional, and for being the first audiobook I ever listen to it was surely an incredibly nice experience.
I'm still planning on rereading the entire series. but I may feel tempted to get some other audiobook volumes.

Well, I would rate the story a 7/10 and the narration a 9/10, the first audiobook volume of Bakemonogatari surely surpassed my expectations.
