If two people are meant to be together, nothing can stand in their way. When everything goes wrong are you still meant for each other?
After being dispatched to Blanchard Creek, Wyoming by her mother as a mail order bride, Christina Mills tumbles from one mishap to another. As if arriving in Wyoming with a fever, losing luggage and being accosted by the hotel owner isn’t already bad enough, her to be groom decides to back out of the marriage.
Alexander Barrett Patterson is a man of honor. However, the scars from battle are more than skin deep. Rather than tying the beautiful woman to a cripple, he decides to give her up and suffer the consequences of a decision every ounce of his being protests. Now, if only half the town would stop trying to make him change his mind.
A story of hurt, scars and the healing power of love.
Bestselling author Hildie McQueen loves unusual situations and getting into interesting adventures, which is what her characters do as well. She writes romance because she is in love with love! Author of Romance in Highland historical, Western Historical and contemporary, she writes something every reader can enjoy.
Most days she can be found in her pajamas hiding from deliverymen while drinking tea from her David Gandy coffee mug. In the afternoons she browses the Internet for semi-nude men to post on Facebook.
Hildie's favorite past-times are romance conventions, traveling, shopping and reading.
She resides in beautiful small town Georgia with her super-hero husband Kurt, an unruly boy Chihuahua Pepito and a spoiled rotten girl Chiweenie named Lola.
This was my first Hildie McQueen book. It's a sweet western romance set in Wyoming between two people who have been abused by their circumstances in life.
A few typos but nothing that would take you out of the story. It wasn't a bad story but I found it to be a bit bland and predictable.
Sweet Christmas tale with engaging characters and a satisfying plot. Great secondary characters as well. I always know I'm in for a treat when I read one of Hildie McQueen's western romance novels. Happy ☺reading 📚!
I have very much enjoyed the previous books in this series but this one left me a little... meh. It felt more bare bones than other stories. Characters were not as well developed as I like and the story just moved very fast with very little conflict. I feel like this could be an amazing story if it were just fleshed out a little. I liked it, but I was a little disappointed.
This is the second book of the spin-off series and I liked this one better than the previous book. This book could have been so much better with a bit more length.
This is a sweet mail-order bride romance, with likable characters. I liked it, but it was a little too unrealistic for me. Most romances are fantasies, but they should at least be somewhat believable -- and I just didn't think this was.
I won't give spoilers, but the couple would both have had PTSD from what they had endured. He was terribly injured as a soldier, and still suffered a great deal. She had been terribly abused and was almost raped. I didn't think either of them was recovered enough to fall in love, at least not that quickly.
This is book 7 of the series Brides for all seasons. I enjoyed it immensely. As a girl she was treated badly by her Father, then he arranged a marriage between his daughter and his rich friend, who it appeared would treat her worse than her Father. The next Day came and her life changed for ever. I enjoyed every word of this book and didn’t want for it to end. I hope Miss McQueen’s Characters carry on to the next book. I am so looking forward to reading it.
I've read several books in the series so far and I've enjoyed each one. Each woman has their own reason's for coming west, but there was something about Christina's plight that hit me extra hard. I'm happy that Christina and Alexander were able to push past their fears and reach for what they want.
While each could be read as a standalone, for those who are are following along chronologically, Christina knew Wilhelmina (Winter Bride) in Philadelphia and was surprised to hear that she went west as a Mail-Order Bride ... so Christina's book happens after Wilhelmina's book.
I was very disappointed in this storyline. It has been done way too much and by better authors. In the past I have adorned this authors early works - the blue series, lately her work has become to predictable. Time for a reboot- it's about quality not quantity. Moving on-sad.
I enjoyed it. It is well written. Christina is being abused by her father physically and is being bargained off into a marriage with a unsavoury man. With help she flees and becomes a mail order bride but her prospective husband has his own issues, he is physically damaged due to the war. I found parts quite moving, it's not an original theme to cover but fits the series well.
This series has definitely intrigued me. I really enjoyed Christina's story, her strength and faith impressed me. I adore Barrett and his insecurities. We are our toughest critics but our friends show our true character. I've read a few in this series and love the character development. I will be looking forward to more from this series and author.
This was a good story. Christina was abused by her father physically and mentally. He would not let Christina serve but two meals a day and they were not much. Her mother had a plan. She had arranged for Christina to become a mail order bride. Christina arrived in Ranchester and her new life begins. Much more to come. Enjoy
I am in joying these books so much that I look forward to the next book. They are nice love stories and I have enjoyed them there characters although have a sad reason for making a new life they each have enough reasons to leave that it different for each girl. What can I say I love a good love story with a happy ending Keep them coming
A. quaint little town filled with warm hearted people. A woman who is running from an evil father. A man scarred by war. Together they find each other. A touching story of survival.
A short read, nice sweet story .I have read several books in this series and enjoyed every one. I recommend this author for anyone looking for a nice clean well written story.
When book 5 is set 2 years before book 4. I found it a bit confusing when trying to relate to characters that are different from the prior book. Shouldnt sequels be in some kind of order?
This is another sweet short book. Love the western era of the book series so far. This book was good but it was missing more to it. The other books were better. Enjoyed the two characters coming together and being happy no matter the physical problems.😊
A cute story of a Bride coming to Wyoming, but her groom changed his mind, after the Civil war left him scared and minus his leg from the knee down. Read this one and find out how they get together. A definite good read.
A sweet romance... a perfect way to conclude the month of August :) Christina and Alexander over came their difficult pasts in order to discover love and romance with each other.
Phew! I read the eight books in this series in 18 days... not bad!
Hildie McQueen writes some amazing books of love and marriage. Most of the time Lady Price with the Matrimonial Gazette finds brides for men in a town with not many women. As usual the the men are to be good and responsible.
a good story. i liked the way the characters interacted. how the man thought he was not good enough for the lady. but in the end,it turned out to be a great story
A novella - read as part of the Under the Kissing Bough collection.
Christina is a physically abused daughter. Her mother manages to sneak her out of the area and out to the new Wyoming territory. Alexander Barrett has been looking for a wife to help heal his heart, but does not feel worthy after losing part of his leg in the Civil War. Can this mail order bride match be a love match?
