About the author

In 2002 K'wan hit the scene with his debut novel Gangsta, under Triple Crown Publications. It was the first novel released by the budding house and would eventually become the building block for what is now a multimillion dollar company. What started as a therapeutic release went on to become a part of urban-lit history and an Essence bestseller, as well as drawing rave reviews overseas.
After penning his second novel, Road Dawgz (2003), K'wan drew the attention of St. Martins press. The literary powerhouse quickly signed K'wan to a multi-book deal, the first of which being Street Dreams (2004). In 2008 he received the Black Author of the year award from Black Press Radio for the novella Blow.
Since his insertion into the publishing world K'wan has been featured in Vibe, Pages, King, Felon, Big News, The Library Journal, Entertainment Weekly, The New York Press, Clutch and most notably Time Magazine, to name a few. He was also interviewed by MTV News for a feature on Hip-Hop fiction, and a guest on Power 105s morning show as well as NPR (national public radio). In addition to being an accomplished author, K'wan is also a motivational speaker, mentor to at risk children and the C.E.O of Black Dawn, Inc.
K'wan currently resides in New Jersey where he is working on his next novel.

No Stars for being the same exact book as Animal 4 like literally no need to read this unless you just want to, I think I picked up on a few changes but seriously The Same Exact Book, who does that?😳 O K’wan. I’ve said this in another review he plays with his readers money. And if anyone can answer this question wasn’t Animal Light skin? So how is he now dark skinned?😳 Last Note lmao, I have come to the conclusion that K’wan’s goal is to kill each and everyone of his characters, be it Emotionally, Mentally, Physically or All to the left🤷🏽‍♀️ No other way to explain this shit😩

After reading this I figured out that it was just a recap of everything from book 4. Now I can't wait to get the next one. I really want to see how things turn out for Animal and his crew. Also when will Ophelia/Angela meet back up with her brother and then Kahllah reconnecting with Animal to bring all this together. K'wan hasn't fell me yet with this series.

I read this to refresh my self before going to part 5.. But I am reading the reviews and will be waiting to read it..and hopefully Cary Hits will be doing it on Audible. The story is good..but Red Sonja is a liar..period..they need to catch her...

It was fast paced and action packed, a rollercoaster of emotion due to your favorite characters inevitable demise. I enjoyed learning about some of the characters history. Animal showed himself in this book. I felt gutted at what some of these characters endured as children. Whoo chile!

I listened to the audio on Hoopla. I do not own book V and found it on Scribd as it is not on Hoopla, unfortunately. I will begin it now. Let the deaths continue.

So I’m pretty pissed especially because I have all 4 of the other books to this series which I purchased with my hard earned money from Barnes & Nobles only to find out that parts 4 & 4.5 ARE THEE EXACT SAME WORD 4 WORD FRONT 2 BACK BEGINNING 2 END now I love these books but damnnnnnnnn that’s really uh big let down SUPER PISSED OFF

I was pissed by the end....it should've gone on longer to clear some of the things like whatever kdawgs deal is, what the heck is up with sonja or even what happened with Peter. AND what's the deal with ophelia....so many sub stories that I was left wanting to know Why? How? What?! And now I have to wait. I seriously hope Some things get resolved and explained!

I LOVED THIS ONE BETTER THAN A4: LAST RITES.
It had a grief-strickened ANIMAL on the WARPATH WITH THE KIDNAPPING OF HIS SON TJ & RED SONJA'S DAUGHTER(NOTE: I HONESTLY DON'T THINK THAT CELESTE IS ANIMAL'S KID, BUT PROBABLY HIS NIECE & JUSTICES' CHILD. THE TIMELINE IN THE CONCEPTION JUST SEEMS OFF) CELESTE & THE 'DEATH' OF HIS WIFE GUCCI.
HE'S EVERYWHERE IN THIS BOOK MAKING FOLKS WHO KNOW HIS MO EXTREMELY NERVOUS WITH HIS PRESENCE BEING ON THE EAST COAST!
We found out that ASHANTI is GONNA BE A DADDY IN THIS BOOK! HE GOT HIS AZZ HANDED TO HIM WHILE IN BK BY ARRIVAL (& JEALOUS)SET UNTIL HIS BRAINWASHED SISTER ANGELA (AS OPHILIA) CAME THROUGH SAVING HER LITTLE BROTHER BEFORE PUTTING HIM ON WARNING ABOUT WHAT WOULD OCCUR NEXT TIME THEIR PATHS CROSSED.
It was good to see ZO POUND COME THROUGH TO OFFER HIS ASSISTANCE! BRASCO TOO UNTIL HE COULD NO LONGER BE OF SERVICE RIP BRASCO; CHARGE THAT LOSS TO RED SONJA!

I liked ABEL TRYNNA CONVINCE THE CLARKS TO HELP FIND ANIMAL'S KIDS, EVEN THOUGH THEY REFUSED TO ASSIST BECAUSE THEY WERE INVOLVED WITH THE KIDS' KIDNAPPERS.
THAT PLAY ON KIDANPPING GEORGE DIDN'T GO AS PLANNED, & RS HAD THE AUDACITY TO COMPLAIN WITH KANE/CAIN HAVING TO REMIND HER THAT SHE WAS GETTING THEIR SERVICES FREE OF CHARGE!
KHALLAH WAS EVERYWHERE TOO, BUT I FELT THAT WHATEVER SHE HAD GOING ON COULD'VE & SHOULD'VE WAITED UNTIL ANIMAL RETURNED BACK TO LA. IF SHE HAD BEEN THERE AT ANIAML'S CRIB PERHAPS THE KIDS WOULDN'T'VE BEEN KIDNAPPED & GUCCI HADN'T HAVE BEEN PUT IN THE PREDICAMENT TO BE THE (UNTRAINED) PROTECTOR 'LOSING HER LIFE' AS A RESULT.
LILITH HAS THE STRENGTH TO LIFT A MAN OFF HIS FEET & ABILITY TO KILL A MAN WITH 'THE FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH'IN 20-30 SECONDS IS CRAY! ANGELA/OPHELIA/NIGHTSHADE HANDED BOTH ANIMAL & ASHANTI THEIR ASSES IS WHAT MADE ME PROUD THAT WOMEN OTHER THAN KHALLAH WAS HANDLIN' THEIR SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST BUSINESS!
IT HURT TO KNOW THAT JUSTICE KNEW THAT HIS NEPHEW & POSSIBLE DAUGHTER/NIECE HAD BEEN KIDNAPPED & HE DID NOTHING TO RECTIFY THE MATTER. ONLY COMING THROUGH AT THE END TO SAVE HIS DROWNING LITTLE BROTHER TAYSHAWN ANIMAL TORRES, LEAVING HIM WITH A SIMLIAR 'souvenir' in doing so when KANE/CAIN &/OR ASHANTI BLEW UP TO SINK THAT SHIP THAT ANIMAL HAD BEEN ON! Another action packed book! Animal is mentally unavailable for a SPLIT second before turning into the person we know him to be. Once he came out his mental funk, blood shed followed soon after. In this book, you have Animal, Ashanti, Brasco, Cain, Abel, Zo Pound, and Red Sonja...the crew that has assembled for the love of one man and to help get his kids back. Kahllah is on her own mission to find out who put a price on her head and also to find out how her problem connects with Animal’s problem. We learn more about the Brotherhood in this book (a secret organization) and they are official! There were 2 deaths in this book that I will need time to digest and heal from. Hurt me to my core. I’m left with so many questions so I cannot wait for Animal 5!

So it seems I skipped Animal IV last Rites.
I'll go back to it. But in the meantime, this was K'wans usual action packed thrill ride.
So many (plausible) twists and turns.
My only compliant is Red Sonja. Ugh.
Her character is almost TOO unlikable. If there is such a thing. The fact that she is also dodging what coming to her is also frustrating.
I'm super sad that Gucci's character is really dead. That character had been put through the wringer.
I find Black Lotus and the Brotherhood story line fascinating.
I guess I have to hunt down #4.

Number 4 in the Animal series. Number 3 was the next to read, but be darned, I couldn't find my copy so I went on to 4.5.

A very good read. What I must do is read # 3 and reread 4 for the continuation.

With any series it is very important to read in order. So much history is gained.

This is book 4 of the animal series. 4.5 and 4 are the same thing. This book wasn't as good as the others but it had alot of back story. This one also ended on a cliffhanger so I hope he writes another one.

If you have Animal 4 or have read it, please don't waste your time with 4.5. It is the same book as 4 5, the only difference is the last chapter and epologue.
Don't get it twisted, the Animal series gets 5 stars!

Another K’wan banger! Sonja has to die. I do not care. I love that Animal has Allies that are willing to literally die for him and his family. Ashanti is as loyal as they get. They found Angela!! So crazy! I’m wondering when it all comes down to it will she stick with Lilith or will blood be stronger and she’ll fight by Ashanti’s side? Can’t wait for five. I’m sad for this ride to end but I have to see it through!
