Emotional health can be elusive. We often run our lives on fumes, dangling on the edge of burnout or depression. Difficult relationships, overcommitted schedules, traumatic events, or the gnawing sense we re unlovable, drain our energy. What can you do? If you re burnt out or depressed, how do you get healthy? If you re healthy, how do you stay that way? You start by making five choices. Unshakable 5 Choices of Emotionally Healthy People, introduces key behaviors which move a depressed person toward recovery, and keep an emotionally fit person well.
This was my 3rd time through this book. The first time was some 8 years ago when my wife put it in my hands and said "I think you need this...". And while I've never been diagnosed as clinically depressed, I've always struggled with what we call "the funk monster". I'm somewhat manic in my moods, and wrestle with things like the winter blues (i.e. seasonal affective disorder).
This book has been helpful to me to have a plan of attack, and as such my battles with the funk has gone from what used to be weeks to now (typically) hours.
Hope this helps you and I pray if you struggle in this way that the book blesses you too!
I was able to meet John at a Pastoral Conference. He is an amazing human being. This is a wonderful book. For the short size, it is filled to the brim with nuggets for people to benefit on their emotional health. I will not list the 5 habits (no spoiler alerts here) and even if there is nothing you find radically new when reading the book, I can promise these are reminders we all need in life. This book is not just for pastors, this book is for anyone who wants to benefit in their emotional health. Highly recommend and will read again some day.
