Acts of Honor #4

An Act of Courage

Rate this book
She’s the light from his past.

He’s the one her heart has always longed for.

Trained by the best, Christopher Walker has fought hard for his country and even harder to forget the only girl he’s ever loved. He spent countless nights submerged in death and destruction only to find himself clinging to the memories of her when the darkness crept in.

When her life is threatened, Christopher will stop at nothing to protect her. Even if it means having to confront his past.

Alissa Malone never thought she would find herself face-to-face again with the only boy she’s ever loved. But she soon realizes Christopher is not the same man he once was.

His touch is still electrifying—his voice still earth shattering. But there’s a darkness about him that wasn’t there before. A pain he harbors so deep that she can feel it all the way to her soul.

One fateful moment destroyed his very existence, and only one person will be able to make him realize that what he considers an act of dishonor was truly an act of courage.

***

This is Book Four in the Acts Of Honor series, the spin-off series to Men Of Honor. It is not necessary to read all of the other books in the series. However, I do highly recommend that you at least read Resisting Temptation, the third book in the Men of Honor series, since this is where these Characters story began.

K.C. Lynn

K.C. Lynn is a small town girl living in Western Canada. She grew up in a family of four children—two sisters and a brother. Her mother was the lady who baked homemade goods for everyone on the street and her father was a respected man who worked in the RCMP. He’s since retired and now works for the criminal justice system. This being one of the things that inspires K.C. to write romantic suspense about the trials and triumphs of our heroes.

K.C. married her high school sweetheart and they started a big family of their own—two adorable girls and a set of handsome twin boys. They still reside in the same small town but K.C.’s heart has always longed for the south, where everyone says ‘y’all’ and eats biscuits and gravy for breakfast.

It was her love for romance books that gave K.C. the courage to sit down and write her own novel. It was then a beautiful world opened up and she found what she was meant to do…write.

When K.C.’s not spending time with her beautiful family she can be found in her writing cave, living in the fabulous minds of her characters and their stories.

K.C. Lynn is one of those authors who I’ve been meaning to read for the longest time. I’ve had books of hers just sitting on my kindle and I’ve never made the time to actually read them. When one of my lovely book friends, Jodi, recommended this one to me, I decided I needed to make time and fit it in. I’m so happy that I did. I loved this book so much. It hit all of my love buttons and left me in happy tears and with the biggest smile on my face. I am definitely going back and reading more from this author! If her other books are as good as this one, I think I’ll have a new favorite!

An Act of Courage is a second chance romance. Christopher and Alissa dated through high school. Although they were very much in love, things didn’t work out for them. Since then, Christopher has been in the military and Alissa has been to nursing school. They haven’t seen each other in five years, but something big brings them back together. And all those feelings come rushing back.
There isn’t a single thing I don’t remember. Everything about her is unforgettable.

Our past hangs heavily between us—a past we cannot change, no matter how badly I wish we could.

Christopher loves Alissa so much. He only wants what is best for her. He’s a hero that will steal your heart right from the start. I adored him and the relationship he had with his family. It was so beautiful. His past has made him into the man he is today, and that man is damaged and a little broken, but Alissa loves every broken piece of him. I rooted for this couple so hard. I wanted them together so much.

This book is on a whole other level when it comes to bringing the feels. I felt so much. I cried so hard. It’s a tear jerker for sure, but trust me- the end is worth it. Every single tear I shed was worth it when I was left with the most perfect ending ever. An Act of Courage is an emotionally charged, stunning and unforgettable second chance romance. If you are like me and haven’t read a KC Lynn book, get to it! You don’t know what you’re missing!

There’s nothing wrong with this book, the writing is okay and the characters are lovable but I can’t say I enjoyed it.

Maybe my rating is too harsh but this book is so similar to her other books that it felt like I had read it before, numerous times.

I love these guys and I love K. C. Lynn’s books but this one just didn't do it for me.

“My anchor, my light, my salvation in the night.”

You know you've read a good book when not even 24 hours later you are still thinking about the story and the characters.

I'm still not over it.

My heart still yearns for this book.

It's no secret I'm a huge fan of KC Lynn. Not only is she one of the most kindest people I've ever known but she also creates the type of stories that sing to you.

The second you go in to her books you know you'll come out a better person.

You'll see things in a new light. You'll feel things you've never felt before.

She makes me cry like no other.

I've read all her books but Resisting Temptation is the one for me. It's THAT book. I've read it numerous times and it still rips my heart out and has me clutching my chest in pain.

I can't explain my emotions towards that book and no one will ever know just how much that book means to me but KC.

She's the only one who knows how much that story and the characters own my soul.

Some bits I still over two years on can't bring myself to read again.

When I met 15 year old Christopher I instantly felt protective over him. His life broke me. I ugly cried and all I wanted to do was jump in my book and save him from his pain. Him and his little sister; My Ruthie <3

They made that book for me so when I found out Christopher was getting his own book, let's just say I was desperate for it. I needed him to get his HEA.

To say I was terrified to read this book is an understatement. I just didn't want to cry. I didn't feel like getting my fucking heart broken all over again.

I did cry. I cried so hard. I cried probably through around 60% of the fucking book.

I cried to the point of running to the bathroom to blow my nose.

I cried to the point of physical pain.

Alissa was so strong and that fucking girl loved Christopher to death.

And Christopher.

*breathe in and breathe out*

That man. The man I first met as a boy stole a piece of my heart. A piece I never want back.

Oh fuck me I can't think about him without crying so here come the fucking waterworks.

There are three words in the book that literally broke me.

Like a dick I actually held my kindle to my chest silently telling him it's going to be ok <---- what a fucking bellend, right?!

I don't need to tell you what this story is about. The most exciting thing about starting a new adventure is going in blind.

I will say you'll laugh. You'll laugh until tears spill.

You'll cry. You'll fucking ugly cry till your eyes are bloodshot and swollen to shit.

You'll SWOON. You'll swoon so MOTHERFUCKING hard.

Also a cold shower is definitely in order because FUCK ME the fucking sex scenes are HOT AS FUCK! Especially the BUM FUN!!!

I will NEVER forget this book.

Christopher & Alissa's love story with stay with me for that rest of my life <3

I always find it fun to read about a character that I met when they were young and is now all grown up. Christopher and his younger sister Ruthie both intrigued me when they were only kids and now Christopher intrigued me ten times more as an adult with his own love interest.

He and Alissa split as teenagers in a not-so-pretty way. Now as adults Alissa needs Christopher's help and even after years apart he's right there to save her. Their love may have been separated but it didn't go away and once Christopher gets her back in his life, he's not letting her go.

I'm a big K.C Lynn fan and this book is the epitome of why I love her stories so much. She drew me in to these characters and I felt everything they did. I really liked Alissa for Christopher and seeing her calm the storm inside of him was brilliant. They had an amazing relationship that was beyond sweet even at those heartbreaking moments that had me bawling like a baby.

Their characters were just so real and the raw emotions from them hit me really hard. I see myself re-reading this many times to come and it's a huge recommend from me. Even if you haven't read any other book from this series, read this one.

P.S I need Ruthie's book ASAP!

I really want to like An Act of Courage more thsn 3 stars. But half into the story, I lost 1 star. The story of military romance has been a favorite of mine.
Miss Lynn putting too much chessy into the romance.

The chemistry is not develop very well. We got a glimpse of the past and abruptly move into present. This is a second chance romance story. Although Miss Lynn has some good idea about adding PTSD, but the plot feels dragging.

An Act of Courage is a second chance romance and I am not a fan of this trope…unless it’s done correctly. This one most definitely was.

This couple was in love as teenagers but after an argument and a life changing decision they are separated. During that time Christopher serves his country and experiences something that will change his life forever. It is not a situation common to most soldiers. Upon his return he fights the darkness and demons that are now a part of his soul.

Alissa has never forgotten or let go of the love she has for Christopher. She has however gotten on with her life and in doing so ends up in a situation that brings him back to her. It doesn’t take long for them to reconnect but there are still obstacles in their way. With lots of angst, drama and suspense, this couple struggle to find their forever when it doesn’t appear to be in their futures.

As all of Ms. Lynn’s heroes, this one is totally alpha, strong and determined but broken. My favorite by the way. The heroine is strong in her own way, sassy and loving. Together the steam factor is off the charts and the emotions are through the roof. There were plenty of children to lighten the journey as well as strike a chord in your heart, music throughout to help express the deep emotions this hero felt, and secondary characters that added depth and easy banter.

Dual POV
Part of a series but can standalone
For my friends who will want to know – The h never sleeps with anyone else during their separation. It is never really clear if the H did or not.

"Even heroes have the right to bleed"

You know what's the hardest part of reading KC Lynn's works? It's never the story, it's not even the characters. Because in the real sense, reading KC Lynn's books feels like heaven. Sure there are heart-wrenching scenes and soul crushing moments that will bleed your heart out and in turn, will eventually lead you to sob and bawl like a baby, but no...it was never that. The hardest part always are coping up with the emotional roller coaster and writing the review. Nothing can ever express an emotion that will give justice to any of her works. That, and a book hangover that will make you question, "now, what's next?" and a plea for "please KC Lynn, I want more... I needed more!" So please...bear with me and my ramblings cuz I know for sure it will be difficult for me to form coherent thoughts.

Seriously, as always, it was so hard for me to express my thoughts and emotions into writing every time I finish a KC Lynn book. It took me several tries constructing a sentence not knowing where to start, how to start, the in-betweens and even ending it. My God!!! Her works are my kryptonite, my emotions were all over that it was so hard for me to write what I feel and what's on my mind. That's what happened to me with An Act of Courage. Because nothing prepared me for this book. Tissues, wine, chocolates...ahh those were prepared already after knowing another release is coming, but it wasn't enough. Those were not enough for what I feel right now writing this review. It was only the tip of the iceberg.
She's my anchor, my light
My salvation in the night
My angel, my peace
The best part of me

GAHD! I read this book over and over to relive the moment with a thought that maybe after several rereading, I can pull this off, but to no avail - I just keep on sobbing. My heart was crushed into bits of pieces I was gasping for air to breathe. I just do not know, but because I have known Christopher way back with Resisting Temptation, scenes from that book feels like yesterday. It feels like so new that with this book right now I can still feel the pain. In as much as I wanted to say MOH is my favorite, and that Sawyer and Cade are the top MOH for me, I cannot deny the fact that Christopher have a special place in my heart. When he was a kid then, he already stole it, but right now, he OWNED it. It was his. And when I say I've been rooting for him... I am and always will be. That's the reason why, I too was looking forward with his happily ever after with Alissa. The woman that brought light into his darkness. The only woman he loves and can't resist. They are just perfect for each other. When you read the book, you will understand my sentiments right now, Because more than anybody else, it is Christopher and Alissa that is worthy of forever. It was them worthy of love and happiness especially Christopher. What he went through broke me. Up until now I can still feel the pain. Even days after reading this book, I still cried over a man who experienced life's cruelties. And Cade's right you know... it was An Act of Courage and this book title when you read it will just really made sense.

Overall, I could definitely say, KC Lynn did not just made an amazing job. She excelled it. This book is EVERYTHING AND SO MUCH MORE. I may have sobbed, ugly cried and gutted but I cannot deny the fact that my journey with Christopher and Alissa is a fun one too. It had me swooning and wanting a cold shower because holy hell those sizzling sex scenes were scorching!!! I even laugh out loud with other scenes too and smiled so big. The gang may not all be present but the Walkers were there. And I miss them so much. Yes, KC Lynn did that to me. Reading this book had me into a roller coaster of emotions. And I LOVE IT BIG TIME! But you know what had me with this book? It was full of HEART. Clear enough of how KC Lynn poured her heart and soul over Christopher's book and I couldn't ask for more. She incredibly delivered this story and she aimed not just to please nor to entertain. In my case, she moved me and made a better person out of me. I was touched with this story. I may have been pained, broken but you know what? I was healed beautifully just like how he healed Christopher. Because with An Act Of Courage? You may be broken, but you will be fixed in the most beautiful way.

To end, I love this book so much! It's addicting and unforgettable and this book will forever remain in my heart. Kudos KC Lynn! As always, your book is EPIC! My God, I wanna be you! No one, can pull a book as epic as your's and I am forever grateful I stumbled upon your works. You still managed to move me, touch me in the the most possible ways until all this time. Your characters and stories are imprinted in my heart and mind.

4.5 all the feels stars

It has been a while that a story put me through so many emotions, I was even crying at 15%. I knew I was going to be put through the ringer, and I was right.

Alissa and Christopher were high school sweethearts that planned to spend the rest of their lives together, until reality and a bitch of a mother stepped in. Now 5 years later, Alissa is in trouble and Christopher is asked to help. As soon as they reconnect, years of emotions come to surface, both realizing they never stopped loving one another. But 5 years is a very long time, and Christopher is battling demons so big, he feels there is no hope for them to be together.

”I’ve never seen someone hide so much, yet give so much away. He’s an open book; anyone that looks close enough can see that, you have to be brave enough to turn the page”~Alissa

”It may have been a long time since we’ve been close, but I hope he knows I’m always here. He holds a place in my heart that no one else ever will …..Even if it’s a place he doesn’t want”~Alissa

Christopher is lost and struggling with the horrors and nightmares from his deployment. Being with Alissa helps, but the darkness is just too great. He believes she will no longer want to be with him when she finds out what a monster he thinks he is.

She’s my anchor, my light, my salvation in the night.” ~Christopher’s song

Although I highly recommend this book, and the author states it is a standalone, I suggest you read the Men of Honor series so that you know the backstory of side characters as well as Christopher. It is a pet peeve of mine, as well as man of my friends, jumping into a middle of the series and not knowing who is who. The Men of Honor Series as well as the spinoff-An Act of Honor Series were all 4-5 stars read for me. Just be warned, all the books have a lot of emotion packed into them.

4 Mended Stars

If you’ve read the original “Men of Honor” series, you remember Christopher from Faith and Cade’s book. Well, I loved the series and so when the crossover series was released I was anxiously waiting for Christopher and Alissa’s book. They were high school sweethearts and were completely in love when they were young. But things went wrong and their lives went in different ways, Christopher to the military, Alissa on her way to become a nurse. Now they meet again when Alissa’s life is in danger. Christopher jumps to the scene straight away and the thing about first love… always the hardest to forget.

description

This was a really emotional and sweet book, in way that KC Lynn got us used to. Christopher started as a hurt boy and came back as a damage man and Alissa remained the only person who always manage to keep him grounded. Their reunion was sweet and gut wrenching at the times but it was nonetheless a great reading. Christopher got the alpha male streak from the original Men of Honor which added the steam all romance readers will love.
If you’re a fan of the author you should definitely read these series, if you’re not I suggest you start with the Men of Honor series first… you’ll not regret.

Another 5 star read from KC Lynn, but if we are honest here - was there any doubt that she wouldn't deliver an amazing story, after she continues to do so, time and time again.

I couldn't imagine the heart ache KC went through writing this book, penning all the emotion into her words to do his and Alissa story justice. I finished reading at 2.30am, in tears. Both sad and happy tears, my body experiencing all the different highs that only this author's work can seem to activate in me. Crying with so much emotion, but laughing at the same time. Moments being so bittersweet that you just wanna grab your kindle close, hoping that all the love you are putting in to the hug is somehow going to help heal these broken characters.

This book is a perfect follow on in the Men of Honor franchise and if you read and loved Resisting Temptation - then this book will be perfect for you. Seeing Christoper grow from the punk of a teenager to this brave honorable man, is as heart-warming as it is heart-wrenching.

KC Lynn as I told you earlier -

You are a genius. I don't read much M/F anymore, only like 5-10 authors as some females I have read last year tended to fuck me off lol but this book.. brought back my love for your entire series and reminded me that there are books out there that stick true to life and relationships and most importantly love.

I've been so looking forward to this book. But my lil heart broke through this book. Christopher and Alissa's story is heart breaking. I knew it wasn't goin to be easy but they had to deal with so much. Christopher's character is amazing this guy is so strong even from a small age this guy has had to deal with some horrible things. But he would be where he is now if it want for Faith and Cade. They have made a better life for him and his sister Ruthie. He couldn't thank them enough for what they have done. But one person that made his life better was Alissa. They met in high school when Christopher life wasn't so great but she was the light that he needed. They got closer with more time they spent together. But there were people that wanted to spoil what they had. They came from two different worlds she came from money and he didnt. This just made life difficult for them but they luvd each other they didn't need people's acceptance. But Christopher wouldn't get in the way of Alissa having the best he alway had her best interests though sometimes she didn't agree with him.

This story was brilliant I was looking forward to this book since Faith and Cade's book Resisting Temptation. I knew there story was goin to be easy but wow they had to deal with a lot. Even after 5 years apart there connection was stronger than ever. No matter how much Christopher thought it was best to stay away he couldn't she was always goin to be his one luv and no one could change that. I luv how strong they are together they make a great couple. Alissa would do anything for him she could see he was dealing with something so bad but he had to get her protect him to. He shouldn't have to deal with his demons on his own but he is one stubborn man.

I would highly recommend this book and series. I would recommend that you read the Men of Honor series first this is a spin off series. You won't be disappointed there all brilliant book. This author is amazing her writing is flawless. Every book just gets better and better. I was addicted to this book from the start. I've been like that with everyone of her books there just so good.

I've been waiting for this book since we first met Christopher. I knew he had the ability to be broody and alpha. That's pretty much right up my alley.

Christopher had a rough upbringing along with his sister Ruthie (fav kid ever) until they were taken in by Faith (previous book). He had seen the worst of life but had a heart of gold.

Alissa had a normal upbringing but her mom was a meddling bitch.

These two were high school sweethearts. We get flashbacks of how they met and it was so freaking sweet. The innocence of first love is something that I never get tired of reading. Well after they graduate high school cue the meddling mom and some things get turned around that leads to them losing their way with each other.

Five years later they are thrust back into each other's lives and the chemistry is of course still there. They are soulmates. Christopher is now a shell of his former self though and Alissa must learn to navigate Christopher the man.

Their story brought out every emotion for me. I smiled at the innocence and cried at the harsh reality of the real world.

I'm going to be honest that this one was 4 star for me until around around 90%. That's because of something that is a personal preference. However one scene deserves 10 stars and it brought the rating up for me.

KC is becoming a master at drawing out emotions with her readers. You don't want to miss that opportunity.

ALL. THE. STARS.

"Mama says there's always something to smile about, you just have to find it."

"Whether it was playing the drums or strumming the guitar, he always took me to a sacred place with him. A place he never shared with anyone else but me."

"The taste of her burns within my blood, reminding me of our past. One we shared. One I lost. And everything I want to take back."

"Even heroes have the right to bleed."

Read it with tissues, a glass of wine and a box of chocolate they said. But, even that warning could not prepare my heart for the story it was about to read.

As I sit here trying to put all my thoughts and feelings for Christopher and Alissa's story, I realize that sometimes books just speak for themselves. Sometimes there are stories that are so beautiful, so heartbreaking that they just rock you to your core and leave you utterly speechless. Sometimes, the only thing you can say is stop everything you are doing, run and buy this book, read and absorb every painful and beautiful moment.

I've been a fan of KC Lynn for many years now and with each book, I set the bar higher. I wonder how she can possibly beat the last book and with each new release, she blows me away.

Christopher's story slayed me and kept me utterly captivated. It left me breathless and had my heart racing. It is a story about choices and mistakes. It is a story about living and reclaiming the love that you were meant to have. It is a story about family and second chances.

Christopher's story is the reason why I love to read romance. It is a story that my heart never saw coming and one that I know I will never forget. It was just incredible and is easily one of my top reads of 2017.

I have read every single one of Author KC Lynn's books. She writes amazing, give you feels, emotional stories that are life. An Act of Courage I think , though ,is her best yet and that's saying a lot.

You meet Christopher and Alissa in Resisting Temptation. You learn about there characters and absolutely fall in love with them then. They were in love with each other then but circumstances tore them apart leaving them heart broken.

Fast forward a few years, Christopher has followed in his stepfather, Cade's footsteps and went to the Navy and Alissa went to nursing school. Tragic situations bring them back together and the memories help them realize that the love never left. Both have been through a lot since they were teenagers, will the love and memories be strong enough to keep a future?

This story is an amazing 5 star must read! You will get more of your favorite characters from Resisting Temptation and the emotional love that brings KC's books to life.

5 Courageous, Brave, Beautiful Stars...I absolutely loved this book from start to finish...I was eagerly awaiting Christopher's and Alissa's story...we meet both of them in the third "Men of Honor Book" (Cade's Story) when they are teenagers...We find them again in this story after a separation, both physical and emotional, of five years...traumatic circumstances lead them back into one another's lives, but the years of separation have brought about emotional and mental obstacles that need to be challenged and overcome before they reach their HEA...once again, KC Lynn integrates the devastation of war, loss, and pain with the nurturing aspects of family, friends, love, compassion, and laughter...She brings together a complex cast of characters that simply tug at my heartstrings bringing forth an array of emotions; tears rolling one minute and laughing out loud the next...KC Lynn also examines the emotional and mental consequences of war for our soldiers and brings much needed attention to issues such as PTSD...thank you for braving those topics and giving our military men and women the respect they deserve...amazing and beautiful story:)

I received a copy of An Act Of Courage by KC Lynn via the PR company in exchange for an unbiased and honest review.

Everyone that knows me knows that I love KC Lynn, I have read all her books so far and I love them BUT this book is the best she has EVER written. I honestly thought it would be impossible to top all the wonderfully beautiful written stories she has written but An Act Of Courage in my opinion is the best so far.

Back in Resisting Temptation I meet a young boy named Christopher and was instantly drawn to him, and his little sister's life it wasn’t nice and it broke me little. There was light in that story Christopher and his sister got looked after but when KC told us that Christopher would get his own book I knew in that instant I needed it and I’ve been waiting patiently. KC is an author I know that will guarantee to bring emotions I haven’t felt in a long time to come to the surface and this book really did bring out all my emotions. I cried a lot when reading this one I’m not going to lie to you I probably cried about 70% of this story, at times I cried because my heart hurt so bad, at times I cried with laughter and at times I cried with happiness.

I don’t want to give this story and wonderful adventure away as these characters deserve for you to enjoy them without any spoilers but I will say have tissues at the ready. But I can guarantee you will love Christopher and Alissa so much their story is just beautiful from start to finish.

This whole entire series has been a journey I have been happy to be on. Every story has been satisfying to read. You go through so many emotions but it is worth every single second! The H is so strong but yet so courageous. He was swoon worthy as well as heartbreaking. The h was just the perfect girl for him. Independent, strong, smart and courageous herself! Enjoyed the read. So happy to see all of the Men of Honor crew and their loved ones.

You know those authors you love and you're waiting to read their latest work of art and then you do and you can not grasp how good the book is, you wonder how is this person such a genius. Seriously Ah-friggen-mazing, that's what this book is, loved loved loved it. You are always guaranteed an exceptional read from KC. (I had great but the word wasn't enough) She pulls at your heart string, how do you write something so tragic, emotional and beautiful all at the same time then you're crying your friggen eyeballs out because it hurts. It's truly an amazing love story. There are many funny bits too but I won't spoil you will want to experience it for yourself.
Side note: This was devoured in one read!!!

I'm so happy I finally got to read Christopher and Alyssa's book<3 This series and spin-off series could go on and on forever and I wouldn't hesitate to pre-order/one-click because it is so amazing; One of my favorites ever and I can't wait for more! It is because of books like this that KC Lynn remains one of my favorite authors ever! If you have not read any of her books, you are seriously missing out!

You know those reviews where the person pretends their not biased and that they don't love the hell outta the author? Yeah this is not gonna be one of those! OMG Every damn time! All the feels!!

Finally we get Christopher!!

If you've read the series i think like me you will have been waiting for this one. This is Christopher from Resisting Temptation.

Christopher gives up the love of his life, Alissa, to join the Navy and to allow her to pursue her dreams. After 5 years apart Christopher is back from War a changed man. He's seen and done things he can't get over. He's ashamed of what he's done and it's weighing heavily on him. He's home a short while when he is asked by Alissa's father for help. This brings them crashing back together as though he never left.

Alissa has lived the past 5 years never forgetting Christopher. Her heart will always belong to him. And whilst she has lived her life she's never found love again.

I am not gonna give any spoilers of the story. But jeeze i will just say it's amazing. Nearly on a par with Resisting as my fave of the series.

Every reader has an author they go to when they're in certain moods. Sometimes it's dark, sometimes it's comedy, sometimes it's erotic. The author i go to when i want everything? This one!

I always know KC's books are going to be well written. It's a given she knows how to build a story like no one else. Action packed and gripping every time. But it always catches me off guard the feeling you get reading her books. I get every feeling you can think of. Her words just manage to crack me open and make me feel it all. From sadness and doom, to fun and happy, to sexy and hot (wow lube!) to heartbreak and then tears of joy!!!

From the moment these characters meet you know it's a lifetime deal. They may have been separated but they were always going to just be. At some point they were going to make it. Of course it's never an easy road. Christopher broke my heart. Not gonna lie he did. I felt his guilt. Knew i would feel the same. But i just wanted to wrap my arms around him and tell him it wasn't his fault. A true hero would do the same. I will say the chapter of Cade's thrown in here was probably the best and the worst of this book. Tissues were all used up!

Alissa very much reminds me of Faith i can see exactly why Christopher loves her. She's strong and resilient and has a heart big enough to carry her and Christopher through the dark times. She's the Light. When she felt helpless as Christopher spiraled into darkness i love how although being supportive she let him have his space. She didn't moan and strop she supported him even if it killed her to leave him be.

Please don't think it's all dark and broody there are so many wonderful moments too. The love that fills your heart will consume you all the way through. It's so special I'm grinning typing this. The flashbacks to their joint pasts are wonderful, skateboarding and hubba bubba! Also sexy times? Yuhhh huhhhhhh hot, sexy, dirty, toe curling, i'm with ya baby, swoon worthy!!! The scenes with the music class had me snickering like a child.

Of course old faces are in here predominantly Cade and Faith which i absolutely loved because they're my fave KC Couple!! Also Ruthie and Mia. There's also little hints to their future books which I'm so excited about!!!

I just can't fault it. You would think this far into the series things may have become a little slower maybe or repetitive? NO!!! NO!!! NO!!! is still fresh and gripping and wonderful!!

I highly recommend this book. I guess you can read as a stand alone i don't see why not but, i would advise you to read the whole series. Not just Acts but Men of Honor too. Hell, read everything this author has written because honestly every last one of them will touch you in some way or other. I just love them and always will. These books are re-readers heaven!

Damn it how am I going to be able to do this review...

okay deep breath, here we go.

You know that feeling you get when something affects you so deep inside your soul that it just leaks from the spaces that give you the ability to see it. I experienced so much with this book and then some.

I knew deep down this book would come to mean so much to me just like Resisting Temptation has when we meet Christopher and Ruthie. I am over the moon with emotions right now, I may have tears running down my face as I do this review but I don't wipe them because this book...this book is an eqaul to Resisting Temptation and that book will always affect me deep.

Christopher Walker is plagued by something dark and to him unforgivable. He harbors it deep down and doesn't want anyone to know or see the hurt he caused, afraid they will hate him in the end because of it.

Alissa Malone is doing what she loves, helping others except what she doesn't expect to find while doing it is herself in danger and the one person she could never forget who slides back into her life only to realize he isn't who he used to be. What has him so guarded and hurt? Bound to figure it out she tries and tries until she is threatened again then only to go through hurt again.

"Whatever it is that you think you've done. No matter what it is...I forgive you."

The struggles our soldiers face is very real especially when they come home, KC you have brought insight into what the burdens our men and women face when they come home and it becomes too much, sometimes it doesn't always end happy. Our soldiers are bypassed and it hurts to know but it's the truth, I wish there were a place like Anna's for our vets to go to because it would make things that much better for our soldiers in and put of duty.

"For some of us there is no redemption. No...absolution."

I can recall all the times I have cried while reading a book to the point that I had to stop because of the emotion, I am proud to say that they all have been from KC Lynn aside from 2 times. When an author can express emotion through words and pull that leaky stuff out you know you found a great amazing one. Hang onto em.

"God gives the toughest battles to the strongest soldiers, and both of them belong to me."

There is one chapter specifically in this book where I was shaking my head and saying no all while tears flowed down my face. I was so distraught I almost stopped reading because I didn't want to go any further but I had to, I couldn't stop. Pure emotion flowed through the words and conveyed what was happening so much it was overwhelming.

"I know what it's like to love someone who doesn't love himself, I also know what it's like to live with the memories or war. It's a dark place and changes a person forever. But love can overcome hate and light will always prevail over darkness"

An Act of Courage has its place on my list of books that are embedded in my soul and that's hard to accomplish but KC has done it again. I have experienced some of what Alissa goes through with Christopher and it hurts more than anything but love truly can help reach the darkest parts of someone who is trapped there and fighting to be in the light.

You will cry, you will smile and be happy but most of all it will break you, shatter your heart but in the end it will slowly come back together as it should because no matter what there is always a crack in every ones heart.

I highly highly without a doubt recommend this book but you also should read Resisting Temptation first to get the whole story.

Bravo KC! You never should've doubted yourself or been scared, you hit it out of the park and then some with this one.
