A hiss! A gulp! Where are you, Niles?
Why is your huge pet snake all smiles?
Are you in there, you little dickens?
Where it kind of lumps and thickens?

Fans of the The Gashlycrumb Tinies - this one's for you!

Kennedy introduces us to a passel of misbehaving minors, most of whom deserve all the nasty, rotten things that happen to them.

Stealing eggs, Fritz ran afoul
Of an angry great horned owl.
Now she has him ---what a catch! ---
Seeing if his head will hatch.

John while swimming in the ocean
Rubbed sharks' backs with suntan lotion.
Now those sharks have skin of bronze
In their bellies --- namely, John's.

"Hurry, Doctor! Greedy Greg's
Gobbled all my Easter eggs ---
Really, hand-grenades I'd dyed."

"Hmm," says Doc. "Greg, open wide -----
Wider ------wider -------"

BOOOOM!

"Uh-oh.
Guess that's as wide as Greg will go.

Sadly, not all of the poems result in terrible tykes exploding, or being eaten by wild animals. This, more than anything, probably accounts for my three-star review.

All the same, if you've already worked your way through Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky, you might want to give these a try.

Just re-read to my son. I'm not a huge poetry fan, but I LOVED this collection when I was in middle school. Short poems that rhyme, are funny, and just a bit irreverent. The illustrations are great, too.

One of my favorite poems is;
"Hurry doctor Greedy Greg's,
swallowed all my Easter eggs.
Really hand grenades I'd died,
Hmm... says doc, open wide
wider
wider
boom uh oh
guess that's wide as Greg will go."

Another excellent poetry book! This book is full of very short, witty poems that are quite hilarious. Very rich vocabulary, and another good choice to get kids hooked on poetry!

Maybe not as funny as I remember it,but it's still enjoyable. My favorite will always be the bit about John and the sharks...
