As the high school experience winds down, everybody is trying to plan their futures. Well, almost everybody.
I hope you like watching people fret over their entrance exams and nothing else because that’s the volume. First Keiichi idles while everybody else works hard, pining for the carefree days that are fast leaving him behind.
Then the rest of the volume is Tsuyupon making the difficult decision about where to attend school and then the fallout with Yukirin. There’s really nothing else to speak of and it’s a little dull.
Still, Tsuyupon and Yukirin are easily the best characters in the story and spending time with them is still okay, even if this gets really long in the tooth.
It’s not that focusing in on the uncertainty of leaving high school behind and figuring out what you want is bad. Plus, these guys are all friends and are about to be slowly drifting apart as they grow up.
No, it’s just the whole flipping volume. There’s nothing else to say about it. That’s what happens, it’s pretty rote, and kind of boring. Partly it’s down to my general apathy to this series in general; if you were heavily invested in these characters it probably hits different.
It doesn’t help that I just recently finished the first volume of Minami Mizuno’s most recent series, Home Sweet Home, and her writing and art chops have both improved significantly between this series and that one. That one was a really good time. This one is… a time.
3 stars - the central conflict is okay, it focuses on the best characters, but it just runs way too long for what it is. Which is probably what I’ll say about the entire series when it wraps up, honestly.
Chapter 40 shows the story of Yukirin x Tsuyupon! I just wish that it won't take another 14 chapters to let me know how yukirin confessed to him gaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh
Well, this volume successfully made me cry. Naoe's struggle hit way too close to home, and his relationship with Yukirin felt so realistic. Being in a long distance relationship with your partner is one thing, but being in one with someone who's also your best friend is something else. I mean, they've spent so much time together, bonding over shared interests and hobbies. It must be really hard to say goodbye to a relationship like this. 😭
The pacing monster strikes again. This volume is boring. It goes into a topic that matters and drags it out into nothing. We spend time with Keiichi not wanting to leave high school and then never see him make his college decision before switching to Tsuyupon. At least there, he and Yukirin brought a sting to my eyes that almost made me hit 4 stars, but I just can't. We're winding down to the series finale and I hope the rest isn't like this.
omg this was so like real,, even though i think all my immediate friends all stayed close for college, there was one that didnt and the emotions that he went through felt so real and sad and i love them. i liked thtat this volume was mainly focused on naoe.
