A welcome return to form from the previous volume - that idol arc was definitely not doing it for me, although they did have a really fun ending to it that was pretty sweet.
We then get a story devoted to raw bacon and cat ears, which is so specific and bizarre that I have to wonder if the author was working through a fetish he had. It made the drool stuff look normal (although that specifically is now so intrinsic to the story that I don’t even bat an eyelash any more - oh how I’ve changed).
There’s also a really great swimming arc that closes out the back part of the book. The resolution to that one is very clever on Tsubaki’s part, so props to him for figuring out how to show Urabe how much he cares.
If I had one complaint, and I do, it’s the over-reliance on the panty scissors as a running bit. The drool keeps expanding and changing as a plot device, but the scissors show up and don’t evolve enough for my liking. Yes, it’s still a great visual when Urabe goes nuts with the scissors, and a fundamental part of her character, but they could stand to evolve it a bit.
As always, great chemistry and art that’s a step above (the cherry blossom chapter has some stellar shots). It’s funny how much fan service there’s been (it’s toned down this volume), yet the romance between Urabe and Tsubaki continues to be a slow, slow burn. That said, I’m still enjoying every minute of it.
