This short novel by new author Laura Guilbault was a nice surprise!
We enter the mind of a six-year-old who can hear and see his favorite teddy, Knocker and is manipulated by him. The writing reflects well the mind of a six-year-old (except for the odd word now and then, but it's nothing a good editor can't fix) and the horror grows increasingly disturbing as the day progresses.
If there was only one point that I'd say the story needs a little work on, is the pacing towards the ending which tends to drag a bit, but it's minor, and all in all, this book was a good read.
This was a very intriguing story, and I didn't want to stop reading. I wanted to know what happened next. All of which I find a little strange, considering how I wouldn't normally read a horror story. The writing is captivating, and that held my attention the most. Guilbault did a fantastic job making the reader feel that the story was coming from Tommy, and told through his prospective, and it really makes the reader feel that they are seeing the events from the eyes of a six-year old.
