The Warlock Brothers of Book Four

Love and trust made them soul mates, but destiny might have other plans.

Ever since Drake Carpenter fell in love with warlock Mason Blackmoor, his life has been one supernatural battle after another, but Drake doesn’t mind… much. To be with Mason and experience the magical connection they share, Drake would face entire hordes of vampyren, shifters, or fae—and he has. Luckily Drake is immune to magic, though no one can explain his natural ability to negate almost any enchantment. With Drake’s own family gone, Mason is all he has. So why is Drake experiencing disturbing dreams about Mason that terrify him?

A new threat looms on the horizon, and a revelation about Drake’s identity and the true origin of his bond with Mason shatters everything Drake believes. If Drake, Mason, and all of magic are to survive the coming Spell Fall, the most destructive curse in sorcery, Drake must deal with the truth and fight his way back to Mason—because their enemies are gaining strength, and they intend to reach the boy Drake loves first.

Jacob Z. Flores lives a double life. During the day, he is a respected college English professor and mid-level administrator. Summers in Provincetown, Massachusetts, provide Jacob with inspiration for his fiction. The abundance of barely clothed man flesh and daily debauchery stimulates his personal muse. From the moment we met Drake Carpenter as the new boy in school in Spell Bound, he has been an enigma. When he becomes the object of Mason Blackmoor’s affection and spellbound to his warlock, he became exceptional. When we discover is immunity to magic and how it aids the protector covens of The Gate, he became essential. Now, we learn the true identity of Drake Carpenter and it’s… well, sort of… erroneous.

If you’ve read this series you know that no one, not even the almighty Conclave can figure Drake out and it bugs the crap out of them. The Blackmoors take him in after the death of his only relative Aunt Millie was killed by Vampyre and though the witches and Wizards don’t like him because he is human, they don’t exactly shun him either.

I was so damn ready for this book. Not only do we get Drake’s POV (thank you for that) but we get to find out just what makes him special.

When the book begins, Drake is in the process of selling the home he shared with his Aunt Millie. On one last visit to the house, an unexpected visitor shows up and asks Drake to do the unthinkable. And it broke my heart. I know it was necessary and it really showed just how strong our young Drake Carpenter truly is. But from that day, Drake begins to have strange dreams about being a strange man in a strange house who is fighting with a stranger who just happens to look exactly like someone close to Drake and it’s the key to everything. HA! I was totally vague with all that right? Trust me, I had to be because when each dream gets deeper and deeper, you are dragged into the story just as deep.

Along with what’s going on with Drake, we still have the issue of the Conclave and the mysterious Ica that has been behind all the shenanigans with Ben and his minions. When the Blackmoors go to the Proctors to attend Imbolc they have ruffled the robes of the Conclave for the last time and shit starts to get real. I hated what the Conclave did but I adore how the Blackmoor coven, led by the kick ass high priest and admirable father Oliver Blackmoor as well as their vampyre, fae, and shifter band together and decide they will do what they always do and handle it. Goodness. It’s just that Mason and Drake are sent to the kids table on this one, so they decide to ask Charlotte and Miranda Proctor for help.

The addition of Will, the newest kid at school had me thinking something was up with him when he tried so hard to become friends with Drake. I am not one to try to figure out mysteries in stories, I like the author to lead me through it all, but I had a theory once Will showed up and it wasn’t bunnies. My theory turned out to be right after that last dream/vision Drake had and then HOLYMOTHERFUCKINGSHITBALLS… yup, it got really good.

Drake and Mason had a strong bond in Spell Bound and that bond only intensified with this book. With the foreshadowing remark to Drake that he had what it would take to save them all, I think that it’s truly his love and connection to Mason and not what we're led to believe. Sure, they are young but that doesn’t deter how important, how true and how utterly wonderful witnessing their love is… over and over again.

I am so giddy with this series and I adore the author’s writing. There was so much about differences in here, about being born that way that hit a chord with an echo of what is currently going on in our society. I will never understand the need to persecute those who are different from you, nor judging someone before you know them. Whether intentional or not, I took away with me a sense of warmth with the author’s words regarding how the magical are viewed by the non-magical and a glimmer of hope that if not peace, and understanding can be found.

But after all that, after we know now about Drake, we know now the prophecy of the Blackmoor brothers and just everything this book gave us, that end left a few things unfinished and I sincerely hope there is more to this series.

Spell Fall led us through days of angst with Drake and Mason and the protector covens down to a pretty dark time, when we learn who Drake is. The darkness in many ways, showed us that there is always hope and light even in the darkest of places. It’s a story about finding your family when the one you were born in doesn’t fit and it’s a story about loving well… your enemy.

It was a really nice surprise to find out this fourth installment of the magically fascinating series around ‘The Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge’ is told from Drake’s point of view. Drake is human, for some unknown reason immune to all magic except Mason’s, and he is Mason’s boyfriend. As a relative outsider who has been pulled into a magical world full of dangers and evil beings, Drake’s perspective made everything even more exciting for me. As it turns out, his role in the battle for supremacy in the magical world is pretty substantial. The revelations about the real nature of the threat, old and new enemies attempting to gain power for their nefarious purposes, political turmoil inside the secretive Conclave, and Drake and Mason’s continuing trials and tribulations had me glued to the pages.

Drake feels pretty overwhelmed right from the start. All they know about the threat is that the being they got to know as Ica in the previous story is part of it, that it involves a powerful curse that can cause a Spell Fall, whatever that may be, and that Drake is somehow the one on whose shoulders everyone’s fate rests. Then Drake begins to have strange dreams about Mason, whose power over shadows is known to be pretty corruptive. Drake has to learn how to distinguish truth from fiction, how to regain trust in Mason, and how to answer all the questions around the mystery of what is happening in the magical world. A tall order indeed for anyone – not to mention a “mere” human!

But this personal battle isn’t all that kept me turning the pages. The Conclave, which rules all warlocks, wizards, and witches and was never my most favorite group in this series, is clearly up to something. But they are so secretive that it’s hard to figure out their agenda – or indeed, which of its members may not have the magical world’s best interests at heart. Then there is the impending Spell Fall, and the more details I found out about it, the scarier it sounded. And as for some of the other wizards, witches and warlocks? Despicable, the lot of them! Power politics and greed at its finest, is all I will say. All of these subplots involving many layers each are managed very well, the suspense doesn’t let up, and betrayal is added to betrayal on all fronts. What a ride!

If you like the world of the Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge, if you enjoy stories where characters are confronted with seemingly impossible challenges to overcome and mysteries to solve, if you want nonstop action and adventure, and if you’re looking for a read full of mysterious dangers, suspenseful situations, surprising revelations that only lead to more questions, and fascinating characters, then you will probably like this novel as much as I do. I can’t wait for the next one – but I guess I have no choice. Please hurry up and write it, Jacob!

Boy, that was one explosive episode in the ever continuing saga of the Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge!

I loved revisiting Mason and Drake. They're just as perfect as in book 1. Drake's story however, took us to a brand new location, away from Blackmoor Manor, and into the heart of the witch hunter's operational base. The revelations and secrets that journey revealed were astounding, shocking and monumental to the further plots of this series. But, at the same time, they're so huge that I can't tell you anything about them without ruining the story with massive spoilers, so you're just going to have to trust that it's amazing!

The way both Mason and Drake grew in maturity in this book was incredible. It was so well written that even the smallest hugs, glances and touches helped me understand just how much they were growing up and coming into their own. But their relationship – that was the real highlight. For two boys still in high school, their love was beautiful, strong and although Drake had doubts at certain points, he never gave in and abandoned all hope that he and Mason really are soul bound. It was lovely!

I loved the twist at the beginning of the story (which I'm only sharing because it's in the excerpt on Dreamspinner's website) where we're told that there is actually one chink in Drake's immunity to spells and magic – Mason! That was a brilliant piece of work, because after thinking about it, I realised that Mason had never once used magic against Drake, so there was no way for us to have known that until now. Genius.

I will warn you, however, that I was crying at 11% so you might need tissues for this one. Drake (and Kale) will always grab me by the feels and hold on tight. I can't tell you what made me cry except that this quote pretty much summed up the end of my fighting against it and had me shedding those tears:
“I don't want to be alone again.”

I'll admit that I had a few theories about what was going on, but I was so wrong and so thrilled that I was. Finding out the truth was way more interesting when I had been expecting something else.

Although this story didn't tie up all the loose ends, I didn't want it to either. There was enough mystery and adventure to keep the characters and me busy enough, without adding on more weaves to untangle within its pages. I'm looking forward to reading the next few books to solve them, though, and finding out how the other characters manage to put all the pieces together.

It would always guide me home.”

OVERALL: The Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge

This series is an incredible feat of remarkable skill; from the world building and characterisation to the depth of emotional connection between the reader and characters and the way that each book focuses on one adventure, without cancelling out or forgetting about the bigger picture, there is so much to love here.

The growth of characters that can be seen as you go from book to book - revisiting characters from the previous story in minor, but important, ways - allows the reader to appreciation the subtle changes in their attitude, the overall atmosphere of the story and the mood of each adventure, whether that be hopeless or full of belief that it will end in victory.

Each adventure takes us into a new aspect of what it's like to be a warlock in this world, visiting other worlds, other supernatural creatures and all the chaos that comes with both. On top of that, they all have to function as regular human people, with Mason and Drake having to go to school and his brothers having college or work to complicate things.

Honestly, I'm a puzzle addict, so when there are problems like this series gave us – Who is the Warlock Hag? Who was Ica–? Who was the member of the Conclave doing shady work? What was the end goal? What was going on with the Blackmoor boys magic? – I want to figure it out before I'm told. I get very frustrated if I can't figure it out, but I love it when I'm wrong, because it means the author got one over on me. Though, to be honest, I love it just as much when I'm right, because...hello, who wouldn't love knowing they're able to spot all the clues and figure out the bigger picture? Well, I ended up with a 50/50 success rate and I'm thrilled about that. It's not often that a mystery can keep me on my toes the way this series did.

I loved the Introduction and Dramatis Personae, though I read each book one after the other. It's a great tool that would really help readers who took time between the books or who read it as they were released. Not enough books provide this important information, especially when there is a complex weave of characters like there are in this series.

The blend of adventure, romance and magic was skillfully wrought through every page. No matter which story you pick up, you'll find yourself hooked from page one, as you evolve with each character and move from one adventure to another, wondering just how much more these boys can take before they break or explode from the protective cocoon of the Conclave and finally see their destiny through.

Most of all, I love the refreshingly different take on soul mates that this series provides. I'm used to reading paranormal shifter, vampire and wolf stories where there are mates, soul mates and magical bonds drawing two people together. But, in this series, Flores makes it feel so much more organic and genuine than a magical force pushing two strangers together. The way that their love for their mate draws their power into focus and ramps it up a hundred degrees is such clever writing and genius world building.

This series is my new obsession and I'll be buying them in paperback as soon as I get paid.

Don't borrow it to 'sample it'. Don't go out and buy book one. BUY. THEM. ALL! Trust me. This is one series you want to binge read, one after the other.

O-kay, I'll confess. I checked out the website www.havenbridge.me and so should you. I took all the quizzes. In Which Magical Species Are You? I came out with Warlock. Win! Plus, I got an Active Power of water. So, double win! Oh...and BOOM! I got Kale Aquilo in Which Character from the Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge Series Are You? which is awesome, because he's my absolute fave!

And one more awesome thing – the website tells you the information about the following books in the series and I. Am. So. Frickin'. Excited!

Drake Carpenter loves his boyfriend Mason Blackmoor. They’re in high school and have to study for tests and go to class in spite of the fact they’re part of a family trying to save the world from nefarious magic users. Though they’re not currently in immediate danger, there are still significant threats. There’s a new guy in school. Drake can remember being the new guy and in spite of Mason’s jealousy Drake does his best to befriend him. Drake is having dreams that are quite disturbing, but that should all get sorted. Things start to get a little fishy when Drake realizes the new guy lives in his late aunt’s house. Something is going on, and it’s something big. Drake learns some things about his family, and a threat to the Blackmoor family. The biggest immediate threat Drake has to deal with is to his relationship with Mason. Yeah, they’re spell bound to meet in every life and all that, but not quite as lovers.

I wouldn’t recommend picking this up if you’ve not read previous books, or at least done what you can to understand the world the books are set in and the character connections. In this book we find out what’s up with Drake and why magic doesn’t really affect him. There’s a whole lot of stuff Drake didn’t really know about himself. Quite frankly this kid has dealt with enough tragedy and shocking revelations he could do with some time off. He’s really just a kid struggling to maintain his humanity in a situation outside of human reality. I would have liked to see Drake fail. In Mason’s book we had such a wonderful example of a kid who so desperately wants to appear cool and fails miserably at every turn. I loved Mason’s depth. He was a hurt kid who couldn’t make his world right no matter how hard he tried. Drake didn’t have that depth for me. The beautiful layers were missing.

So, the Conclave. Something is up there. It would appear the true baddie is either a member of the Conclave or so closely in league with them they know what the Conclave knows. Then there’s the Warlock Hag who seems to be doing her level best to get the Blackmoor family away from everything. Is she doing so to ensure her own nefarious plans go into effect? I’ve got no clue. Seriously, I suspect I know who she is, but if I’m right her motivations would be entirely beyond me. I do know I really need to see how this plot thread plays out. Yes, I said need, because if I’m right that is going to be some serious emotional fallout and I want to read how that’s dealt with. If I’m wrong? Then I’ll be wrong.

In terms of story and overall plot advancement I really liked this book. Drake and Mason’s relationship overcame a pretty serious hurdle and they avoided the overly dramatic Shakespearean ending as would happen with kids playing at being adults. They’re maturing and facing new and bigger challenges. In terms of the characters this book fell a little short. Drake pretty much meant what he said and said what he meant. It ended up feeling like a lot of telling of emotions. I know Drake loves Mason because he told him as well as thought it to himself. In spite of that, I still think this was a good continuation of the Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge series.

A ScatteredThoughtsandRogueWords Review. This review can also be found here.

As the protector covens gear up to fight the latest threat to the Gate, the Blackmoors are receiving the silent treatment from the Conclave. In a bid to find answers they devise a strategy that completely backfires.

Meanwhile Drake is having nightmares where the villain is none other than Mason. As Drake works to find out the meaning behind his dreams, he is confronted with an age old truth about himself, his family and the spell bond he shares with Mason.

My Thoughts on Spell Fall

What I am coming to love about this series is the action scenes, the scenes where we get answers to a few questions only to be riddled with many new ones.

I love it when something is happening in this book, because it is awesome to see everyone work together to figure out how to defeat the big bad.

This book has a lot of my old favourites. This book is told from Drake’s perspective and it was so awesome being back in his and Mason’s life as they navigate the perils of their magical life. Especially Drake as he is faced with some pretty impossible situations in this book but it was also really nice to finally have some background on Drake and his life. Also, we finally find out about his immunity to magic.

My one problem with this book was that Drake’s immunity to magic isn’t consistent throughout the book while in the previous books Drake has been singularly immune to all types of magic, in this book we see him get transported by the Conclave, and his dreams infiltrated not only when he is sleeping but even when he is wide awake. This leaves me a little confused as to if magic can affect Drake in some small way if he is unaware or not expecting it or maybe not actively fighting and if yes then what are the limits to that influence. Also the amount of power needed to cast a spell on him isn’t consistent initially the Conclave can transport him and then Icarian can work dream magic on him and then he needs two crests to wrest control over Drake. It would be nice if we could for once and for all quantify Drake’s immunity in some relatable terms instead of having it vary constantly across the board.

I have always loved Mason and Drake, and it was nice getting another story focused on them but I, also kind of, missed being in Mason’s head. I really wish that in the subsequent books we can get at least one book told from his perspective and see his powers grow. Another thing I really want the answer to is – Who is the strongest Blackmoor brother? Just tell us already because I’m infinitely curious.

Also as usual I love the entire dysfunctional extended family. The scenes which have all the Proctors, the Stonewalls and the Blackmoors together are some of the most important scenes in this series and they are always so special. Personally when all the three families are fight together, it is beyond epic. I also love their interactions with each other and how they help each other, especially the kids.

This book raises a lot more questions and I’m excited to see what happens in the next book and to know if any of my speculations come true.

Cover Art by Paul Richmond. I loved the cover. The guy on the cover is a take on Drake Carpenter and he shares a startling resemblance with the Drake in my head, so that was an added bonus.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one and the set up for the next book. I always thought Thad and his face boyfriend was the weakest pairing and the next book is probably all them.

This wasn't a bad book. I just feel like this is really dragging out the villains and their plans.

This book would confuse the heck out of you if you didn't read the series in order, so make sure you read the others first.

4.5 Stars ~ I was super excited when I saw the next installment to this amazing series was out, and couldn’t wait to see what new foes and dangers the Blackmoor family will face. This addition did not disappoint.

The series began in book one when Mason and Drake meet, and here, in book four, once their bond has grown after facing dangerous situation after dangerous situation alongside Mason’s family, we are back to where it began—only this time we get to read from Drake’s point of view. If you have been as enthralled with this series as I have, you know Drake is the unknown through all the books. Little bits here and there have been thrown in, but not enough to put the puzzle of Drake and what exactly his part in this mystical and magical battle will be, and the thing I love about Jacob Z. Flores is he doesn’t always go in a direction you think he will.

Drake’s immunity to magic is explored at the same time he begins to experience disturbing dreams and feelings he doesn’t understand. While he is facing a battle he doesn’t understand within his psyche, the Blackmoors and Protector Covens are still trying to figure out the new big baddies’ plan and how to stop it.

What a ride this story was, and, emotionally, it puts you through the ringer, especially in the beginning.

I truly adore this series and the intricate plot that has been woven, with all the possibilities. Since the beginning I have had my theories in some areas, but have had no idea what to expect in others, and many a time, what I thought would happen was so completely wrong. When questions are answered, it seems more questions come into play, and the deeper the plot goes, the more intense everything becomes.

The world-building is phenomenal and so captivating, with the structure of the magical beings and their perspective roles within the magic community. I find myself loathing the conclave and their secrets the more of them that are revealed (and more is definitely revealed), yet wondering if they are truly as awful as they are perceived, and what Gerald and the Warlock Hag’s motivations truly are. I find myself bouncing around on how I feel about the other Protector Covens and their thoughts and behaviors, one minute wanting to kick their collective butts, the next proud at seeing their commitment to the security of the gate and willingness to put aside differences to fight together. The tension between the groups is palpable. What I love most? That is probably that the Blackmoor Warlocks are well aware of how hot-headed and temperamental they are, and how they oftentimes create the conflicts. They aren’t portrayed as perfect specimens and have many a flaw, but their love for one another is still clear. I can get behind a family that bickers, fights, nags and uses sarcasm on a frequent basis, because they feel like a real family.

If I had one niggle, it’s the immunity thing. Most of the time Drake’s immunity is clear and it obviously doesn’t affect him, and the story has supported this, unless the magic is used to take something solid and bash him about. But I found a few times where he has been affected by the magic, like being teleported by the conclave that seemed to go against what has been portrayed, and the concept of his immunity. Although perhaps that was on purpose, as I have come to find Mr. Flores does throw little clues here and there that eventually build up to something spectacular.

This is an amazing series. If you haven’t read this series at all, but love books surrounded by magic and mystical elements, with amazing world-building, likeable and hateable characters, and an intricate plot that takes you through every type of emotion, go get book one, Spell Bound, and start from the beginning. If you have read this series and adored the first three books as much as I have, don’t wait to jump into book four. It will not disappoint.

Now, where is book five? I need it ASAP!

Loved this series as much the 2nd time as the 1st time (a 4th and 5th book came out so I needed to re-read the whole series -- yum!). I thought there would be more angst between the brothers but they actually love each other very much and that made me appreciate the books even more.

Very unique story lines in each of the books with sexy and engaging characters.

Spell Fall is the fourth book in Jacob Z. Flores’ The Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge series. It is essential that these books be read in order because each story is a continuation of the drama before. We first met Drake in book one of the series, Spell Bound, and he has played an important role in each novel since then. The difference with Spell Fall is that Drake is the first person narrator – and a human – when previously the Blackmoor brothers, Mason, Thad, and Pierce have narrated their own respective stories. The fact that Drake is non-magical does not make Spell Fall any less compelling. Flores’ series is one that I have followed, without fail, and I know the vital part Drake has played. Spell Fall gives Flores an opportunity to expand on Drake’s story, giving him a past and a questionable future.

Drake has always been the calm to Mason’s storm and we have never been given any doubtd about their romance – until now. Flores successfully fills his reader with apprehension and concern. I was shocked by the revelations we learn about Drake – apparently gasping out loud whilst reading Spell Fall in public earns strange looks!

Spell Fall has clearly been well planned and I love the fact that we may be four books into a series, but there are no inconsistencies in the storytelling. Perhaps the most important thing, for me as a reader, is that Flores’ characters have remained solid and unique. Despite all that Drake has encountered, he still has the same warmth and unselfishness that we witnessed in Spell Bound. However, in Spell Fall Drake is stronger, more resilient and resolute. He has developed as a character, but remains likable and trustworthy. This makes it easier for the reader to sympathize with Drake throughout Spell Fall, whilst hoping for the happy for now ending we expect from The Warlocks of Havenbridge series.

First, this is a book in a series you must read in order to appreciate. I doubt this would make that much sense if read as a stand-alone.

Second, all the brothers are now mated and their powers are increasing but we’ve yet to actually solve any of the main “issues”. The temporary hurdles were handled earlier, but the main problem – revolving around the main attack on Drake Aunt and why is yet to be solved. Ica – who we learn is actually named Icarius seems to have a lot of power but is seeking more and needs Drake to achieve this for some reason.

The other witches and warlocks are also not exactly helpful or on the side of the Blackmoors, so they don’t know who to trust anymore.

It’s interesting to me that Drake and Mason are still in HIGH SCHOOL when all this is occurring. They don’t (usually) act like the teenagers they are and their intimate moments are far from YA. On the one hand I applaud Jacob Flores for just going there and letting these guys have their time together be as though they are married, because, with the Soul Bond, they essentially are. But, it was definitely disconcerting to see them in the High School setting with their very immature compatriots and have them sort of devolve back to being as young as their years would imply.

I loved that the “mystery” in this story is so carefully interwoven with both Drake and Mason’s relationship as it is the power struggle between the other warlocks and Icarius. I thought the crafting of this was really well executed and the prose Flores uses is both strong and fluid and at times really artful and beautiful.

While I wish the trials and tribulations would be over for these guys, I’m glad that this isn’t all wrapped up because it means more books are coming! I hope we get to see more of the other couples in the future, because I missed them in this story. (They’re there, but not main players.)

I think this is a tough book to categorize, because the brothers all act older than they are at times, but where they are in life forces them to behave a bit more age appropriate and it sometimes jolted me out of the story when I was reminded of how young they all are.

I do look forward to seeing how their powers grow and change in the future and can’t wait for the next installment! (I can tell he must really love writing these as it shows in his story telling!)

I like Jacob Flores' writing and I like the characters and story but it just keeps going on and on. No book in the series ends in a cliffhanger but neither do they end with a completed story. This is a series and must be read in order.

The Blackmoor men have all been through so much in their mutual quests for peace among the covens, and individually they all just long to find love. With each brother finally paired up with their destined mates, the youngest brother, Mason, and his boyfriend Drake are put to the test once again. Their past is about to collide with their future, and if they aren't careful, it could destroy not only their family, but the entire magical community.

Flores writing just gets better with each installment of this series. The world building, character development and growth as well as the overall feel of the story is just amazing. The Blackmoor men are continually put to the test, and though they struggle and don't always make the right decision, I'm so engaged with their journeys... both as individuals, as couples and as a family. This time around the focus is on Mason and Drake again, but for an entirely different reason. This evil hits a little closer to home, hits below the belt. As if their own personal demons and issues aren't enough, there is additional strain and distrust added to the already tenuous relationship between the Blackmoors and the other covens. It will be up to the youngest members of each coven to show their parents and families that anger and pride can be set aside if they are to see the bigger picture and win this war, together.

If you are a fan of this series or this Author then of course, this is a must read. This would also be a win win for fans of paranormal romance, supernatural sagas and those like me that just love the hard sought happy ever afters that are wrapped around a passionate romance. Keep in mind that this is a series that must be read in order though. I will testify it's worth the time to catch up.

Book: Spell Fall
Series: The Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge – Book 4
Author: Jacob Z. Flores
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Genre: Paranormal
Rated: Mature M/M

I have read and reviewed every book in this series. Book One Spell Bound, Jacob Flores began with Mason Blackmore and his family who were Warlocks. They were one of the three magical families in the town of Havenbridge. They were one of the keepers of The Gate. The Proctor family was the keeper representing Witches and the Stonewall family was the family representing Wizards.

Through the first three books, we met The Conclave who blinked in and out causing more trouble than the bad guys. They were the see all be all in charge of magical beings and the families all had to answer to them. Like bad government.

Mason in Spellbound met and fell in love with Drake Carpenter. Drake we found was resistant to any magical spells, he knew nothing of his past. We did find the two young men were spell bound and knew they belonged together. The next two books found us focusing on Masons two brothers, and now in book four Mr. Flores has taken us on a completely different path and Spell Fall is all about Drake finding his own way.

I will comment that Mr. Flores in doing so, has made me think this book is his strongest yet for the series…. I devoured it in a day. Drake is having dreams, some real some not and the reader is drawn with him thru everyone of them. The action is fast, the descriptions to where he is can be shared by the reader.

For those who enjoy Fantasy, it has taken me in completely. I cannot wait to see what happens next in this very interesting story line, good vs evil!

Aargh! I have been in love with this series since the first book. I have devoured each one in short order and loved everything about them. After Soul Struck, I was dying for the next book, so I went to the author's website to find the next book release. There I found something both exciting and horrifying. There will be at least four more books! Yay, because I love them, but aargh!, because I have to wait for them to be released.

Now that I'm done with my fan girl rant, on to the review! I loved this. After discovering this family and this world from the very first book, it just keeps getting better. Flores draws you into his world of magic, sorcerers, shifters and more with a unique but believable story. Each book continues the main story, but changes the POV so we get a unique view into each of the main characters and how they fit into the grand scheme of things. Spell Fall was from Drake's POV and explained more about his past and his magical immunity. It also revealed more of the secrets behind Icarius and yet another prophecy that is in play. Oh my! So much has happened and so much is still yet to come, but I for one cannot wait! This has easily become one of my most favorite authors and series and is on my re-read constantly shelf. Loved it!

I liked this story. I am pretty sure, if I was a teenager I would have loved this. I will admit, I really don’t like vampires, but I let that go to read this. I thought he’d be fighting vampires, not that they were part of the main cast. But it didn’t affect my enjoyment.
I liked the pace, and the language used throughout. I like that the thoughts and dialogue were in line with what a young person would use. I liked Drake and Mason. And wow, they’re 18, living with Mason’s dad and their relationship is perfectly okay. Pretty progressive dad.
I would recommend this, especially to young adults and those who like magic. But where are the wands!

Fantastic

Wow! It turns out that Drake's immunity to magic, and his soul bonding to Mason aren't just random occurrences. I love that the Blackmoors are told over and over again that they have no choice but to give up on their family and love, but they always choose each other and show the world that they are stronger together than apart.

It open up a lot of new questions. It would have been a five star read but the two young men almost had a terminal case of tstl. It took away from my enjoyment.
