I had every reason not to trust him I should’ve known better than to let a brute like him into my life. He turned my life upside down in the worst way possible: spread me open and took what he wanted—what I needed.
He wasn’t supposed to stay. I wasn’t supposed to scream for more.
But when he holds me down and grinds his hard body into mine. Makes me his possession and obsession. Makes me forget who I am and what he is.
I can’t tell if this is all a dream come true. Or if I’m trapped in living nightmare.
But as long as he’s by my side, I don’t ever want to wake up.
Mine is a full-length, standalone romance novel with steamy hot sex, NO CHEATING, strong language, a happily every after ending and NO CLIFFHANGERS. Contains dark and disturbing themes, and over the top sexiness that may be uncomfortable for some readers.
The cover first attracted me to this book, I mean seriously it's a fabulous cover. Then the title Mine: A Dark Mafia Romance. I do like a nice dark Mafia read. The cover remained good (obviously) but this book is the complete opposite of dark. Now the story itself was okay but I had a lot of issues. At first Liana seemed ok but she soon started to get on my last nerve. While I like a strong independent woman in books and a bit of verbal sparring is great and often adds humour that wasn't the case here Liana just comes across as childish and more than a little stupid at times. I've put 5 of Liana's annoying moments chosen at random in the spoilers section but here's a taster: “Liana.” It was a warning and a plea. "Cliff.” "Liana.” "Cliff.” "Stop that.” He pointed at her. “You’re being childish.” "Stop that.” She pointed at him. “You’re being childish.” Cliff’s lips ticked up into a small smile. Hers turned up too. "Are you going to copy everything I do?” he asked. "Are you going to copy everything I do?” she replied.
OMG just kill me now.
I also had issues with Cliff, while were told repeatedly that he's big and scary we're never given any evidence of this he's also rude on occasion. This is difficult because at times (okay, most of the time) Liana acts like a child but there's no excuse for the way he sometimes speaks to her. "And what makes you think this is something you get a say in?” He waved her away. “Go sit back down. The grown-ups are working.”
The basic story itself isn't bad but it needs work, everyone comes off as being inept and Cliff has to be the least scary and least effective mob enforcer I've ever come across.
The first time we meet Lando he's described as:
.....taller than Liana, but not by much. She was about 5’8”, and this man couldn't have been more than 5’11”.
So we know he's not particularly tall but then...
“Was he about six foot four or so?” she asked. “Wearing a dark suit and a dark tie?” Mark shrugged. “I don’t know about suit color, but he was tall and into you.”
"No. Mark, the pianist, saw someone watching me. He said all he could see was a tall guy with dark hair. That the guy was watching me like a hawk the whole time. That’s what Lando looks like.”
Is it?
#### SPOILERS ####
1 - The first truly annoying moment was when Liana calls Cliff for help then proceeds to ignore his advice (bearing in mind she phoned him) then we get the classic line:
"I'd rather kill myself than follow your orders.” Not true, but she was feeling feisty, and she didn’t like being told what to do.
SHE PHONED HIM.
The killer knows where she lives and has left a poisoned bottle of champagne on her doorstep so since she phoned Cliff for help he states the obvious:
"You are staying in my house. The killer knows where you live. It’s clearly not safe here.” To which she replies: "It would be......Improper"
So obviously she needs to stay with him.
Sonofabitch. Liana could not believe Cliff had actually been able to out-logic her and convince her to play house with him until they figured out who killed his friend.'
SHE COULDN'T BELIEVE HE HAD BEEN ABLE TO OUT-LOGIC HER? Seriously I think my 3 year old grandson could out-logic her.
2 - So Liana is at Cliffs house and he offers to cook for her. "I’ll make you something.” "You don’t need to do that,” she insisted. “I’m pretty good at making food. Been doing it my whole life.” "I’m sure you’re adequate enough, but I’m bored and I’m concerned you might burn down my house.” "That’s rude,” she said. “I’m not an idiot.” (The jury's out on that one) .......Then he reached into the cupboard and pulled out a package of spaghetti. "Maybe I don’t want to eat spaghetti,” Liana said. “You can’t just decide what I’m going to have for dinner because you’re bigger than me.” “I’m deciding what you want to have for dinner because I know that you love spaghetti,” Cliff replied. Okay so long story short, they have spaghetti.
He was right. About everything. She loved spaghetti, and she was starving.
OMG
3 - Cliff has been up for 48 hours and he's shattered Liana manages to occupy herself for 8 hours and then wakes him because she's bored and hungry. I thought she could cook for herself?
4 - This is the best one. They find out who the killer is “Peter found out who Lando is. I’m going to pay him a visit.” "You’re going to pay him a visit?” "Yes.” “I’m coming,” ....... "I need to be a part of this.” "I can’t deal with the possibility of you getting hurt. I could be walking into a trap for all I know.” "All the more reason for you to have backup.”
Now that's funny because she's a total liability and I was laughing that she ever thought she could be backup.
As expected Liana being there makes a mess of the whole thing and someone gets killed and that's it, there's no remorse or grief someone is dead, oh well never mind.
5 - It's their wedding day and Liana is confronted by a stranger. “You’re Muncio Corelli,” she said. He laughed. The sound was like nails on a chalkboard. “You’re smart as a whip,” he said. “It’s no wonder he likes you so much.”
Seriously "smart as a whip" OMG this book is funny in places, to start with we knew who was in the room before we even knew someone was there. You know what I mean it had to be him but seriously I still have tears rolling down my face "smart as a whip"
I laughed from beginning to end of the story. Liana's likeable, practical and snarky personality is a perfect match for Cliff's passionate tough guy. I would have given it 5 stars but the villian and many of the supporting characters are little on the lite side. More development would have made this a much more dynamic story. However, it is a great fast-paced read that will leave you wishing for your own bad boy to cuddle up with.
Liana and Cliff what can i say... at first i was not really into it... took me a few days to repick it up cuz it was a bonus on a preview book i read, but after it started to flow and it was a good book like the cute bickering and the hole cant fight it energy.
I may not be in the mind frame at the begining but at the end it wasa ok book
This was the first book I've read by Paula Cox, but it won't be my last! Gripping from the beginning, this was an interesting twist on dark mafia romances. Liana gets ripped in the dark world of Cliff (a super unassuming name for a badass btw) While not overly steamy it was a great read!
It was an ok read, the"hero" wasn't as alpha as I usually like them. For a tough guy he didn't do much other than worry and go along with the plans of the girl. Also the author had a habit of writing their names way too many times. But the story line was ok.
Cliff hot brooding mobster meets fiery singer. Sassy fights with hot sticky sex. What more could you ask for. Lots of suspense and drama that make it a hard one to put down.
This was a great story. Liana is a fiery girl that falls in love with Cliff who is in the mob. They go through some ups and downs trying to find who is wanting to kill them. A great love story with twists.
Mine by Paula Cox was a dark mafia romance with suspense and danger lurking. What started off as a potential attraction turns darker as the story progresses with the characters not knowing what to expect next throwing everything into chaos. Well written with an easy flow throughout.
The story of Liana and Cliff takes you on a roller coaster read into the underground world of the mafia with a psycho ex friend. This book keeps the readers attention from the very first page to the very last page. Could not put this book down was a truly five star read, definitely recommend this book.

Wow, what a fun, sexy read!! Paula Cox did a great job bringing this story to life. Cliff and Lianna's relationship was passionate, simmering, and I loved the verbal sparing. Lianna's a strong female who knows what she wants, stands her ground, and demands to be treated as equal. I can't wait to read the next book by Paula Cox.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I loved this book. I was expecting a lot of sex in this book, but was pleasantly surprised that it did not. I loved the plot and it kept me on my toes. Hope to read more books by Paula.
Good story line with loads of action, throw in a little crazy, a wonderful couple and you get a great book. Loved the main characters and their interaction with each other. I would recommend.
Dark romantic it was like I was there with them some parts the tension could've been increased and some of the details could of been sharper but otherwise it was spectacular and I enjoyed reading every sentence of it
Holy fudging snowballs! This book was amazing. It's action from the first chapter until the end. I was glued to the pages while reading this book and just couldn't put it down.
Cliff is an enforcer for the Corelli crime family while Liana is a caterer with aspirations to be a singer. While at a wedding that Cliff and his friend Michael are attending, a mysterious man hands Liana a bottle to deliver to Michael with a message. She delivers the message and the bottle and a few minutes later Michael is dead and Cliff is pissed.
I honestly didn't expect the book to take the turn that it did. I thought he was going to kill her right then and there and we'd have a new leading lady. How wrong I was! Definitely worth a read!
I loved Liana's sassy attitude and no holds barred fire. Not afraid to voice her opinion or argue with Cliff, the bad boy mafioso. Mystery, adventure, chuckes and a happily ever after.....well done.
