First comes love, then comes marriage... But before the ceremony could start, Porter's world was knocked off it's axis. He fought for years to break down Asher's walls, to see past her ghosts...but some ghosts may be too hard to fight.
Asher knew better than to believe she could keep her past in the past, Keep the filth of who she was, from touching the Prescott family. But as badly as she wants to keep Porter away ...she needs his family more.
What you see is what you get... And even the most astute eyes can't see the biggest ghost.
But sometimes holding on is the only choice you have.
Note: This is book two in a duet. Book one, Altercation, MUST be read prior to Holding.
Mignon Mykel is the author of the Prescott Family series, as well as the short-novella erotic romance series, O'Gallagher Nights. When not sitting at Starbucks writing whatever her characters tell her to, you can find her hiking in the mountains of her new home in Arizona.
I wasn't the biggest fan of the push/pull part of this book. But once they figured their shit out, it was so sweet! And that's the best way to describe this duet, sweet. I loved Porter's devotion to Asher. I loved watcher Asher heal. I really loved the whole Prescott family.
Note: I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an unbiased review.
Before I begin my review, I'm going to give you a little bit of background on the Playmaker Duet. It's a duet, but it really contains four books. The first two books are prequel novellas. Trouble Maker is the first novella that introduces us to Porter. Asher's novella is Breakaway. Both novellas provide information on Porter and Asher's pasts and set up their introduction. The first book in the series, Altercation, is the beginning of their love story. Holding is second book and the conclusion of Asher and Porter's romance. If you're interested in reading the duet, you really need to read the first two novellas. The duet is also part of a larger series called Prescott Family. You don't have to read the books in that series to read the duet, but they're great books as well. Now, onto my review.
After finishing the first book in the Playmaker Duet I could not wait to read Holding. The cliffhanger at the end of Altercation shook me. I was on edge wondering what was next for Porter and Asher. I knew it was going to be a rough ride towards happily ever after for them, but I had no idea how much this book would break me.
Holding was absolutely heartbreaking. No character was left untouched. I felt horrible for both Asher and Porter. Their world was rocked in ways that destroyed them. I could empathize with both of them. Asher was struggling to accept what happened. Porter was trying to hold on to the life they had before. Their struggle felt so real and raw. I hated their moments of pain, but they made for a beautiful story of healing. And that's what Holding was. It was a story of overcoming the past, accepting what was, and moving on. It was a story of letting go and trusting in love.
I loved every moment of Holding and all of the other books in the Playmaker Duet. I highly recommend reading them all. Mignon Mykel has quickly become one of the authors I'm waiting on new releases from. I love her writing style and the characters she creates. Her books make me feel so many things. I cannot wait to see what she has in store for the next Prescott family member.
Holding (Playmaker Duet #2) by Mignon Mykel Mignon Mykel’s HOLDING is an amazing conclusion to the Playmaker Duet. HOLDING takes place where ALTERCATION left off; Asher Spence and Avery Prescott were kidnapped by Asher’s former foster father, James Johnson. Understandably, Asher is having difficulties dealing with the abduction and her memories that resurfaced. Mignon Mykeln does a fantastic job relating the emotional aspects to this story.
Asher is an astonishing heroine. She has undergone a lot and has grown tremendously through this series. She feels tainted. She has ghosts and experience self-doubt. I love Porter Prescott. He is supportive and loving to Asher. He gives Asher her space but is broken hearted doing it. The couple faces so much. They are stronger and better together.
The plot was tear-jerking and believable. Unexpected situations arise that the couple must face. The Prescott’s are a remarkable family that truly cares for one another. I love the epilogue. It made the story feel well concluded. At 91-pages HOLDING is a fast read. I could not put HOLDING down. I am sure I will end up re-reading this series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I recieved a voluntary arc of holding and wow I was amazed how Porter handled Asher through all her skeletons!!! That man was a good man!! Asher had a lot of bad stuff happen to her in the past and finally she was letting porter in but after the kid napping she shut down. I really loved this book and enjoyed reading porter and Asher's story!
I'm just, I'm so incredibly sad I'm done with this book. Porter and Asher have quick become two of my favorite characters of all time! I just, my heart is so dang happy! I know for the rest of time that no matter what I will be picking up Mignon's books. I have become a fan for life. I can't put the stories down!!! Now to dive into Holding.
It all started because of a car accident, a chance meeting. And from there it turned into one of the most amazing stories I've ever known. I don't want to dive too much into the storyline because of the way Altercation ended. But I will say if you stick with Porter, Asher, and the Prescott clan you will be rewarded handsomely. I've never been more in love with a family before. But more importantly with the two leading characters. I've learned so much from Asher and Porter, things to take into account into real life. With Porter, there are different ways to find your identity but you have one. I'm not the baby of my family but I struggle with this daily too. Porter found exactly where he fit in and how he did amongst everyone and he became the amazing man I knew he could be from the beginning. Fight for the life you want and find yourself. Fight and never give up. And Asher, this girl.... she taught me to be a warrior, a fierce, independent, and strong warrior. We all can be. Life may throw curveballs and be horrible at times but as her tattoo says, "I am my own hero." But more importantly she taught me it was ok to lean on someone when you needed to. That someone will always have your back, just like Porter does her.
I'm rambling but I seriously love Porter and Asher with all my heart. You will definitely be crying while reading but they will be tears because of some sadness but more importantly the beauty of this story.
Porter, Asher, and the Prescott clan. I love them and I can't wait for the opportunities to revisit them in the future! ❤️
*Read more of my reviews at Whoo Gives A Hoot* Holding is the perfect conclusion to Asher and Porter’s tragically beautiful duet…
I still thank my lucky stars that I was fortunate enough to discover the extraordinarily talented Mignon Mykel! The first story I ever read from her was Interference, Sydney and Caleb’s story back in 2016. Truth be told I almost didn’t give that book a try, but I am so glad that I did because if it wasn’t for that story I would have never discovered such an amazing author who has become one of my all-time favorites! I am now a supporter of all things Mignon Mykel! This woman is way too modest for her own good and she refuses to accept just how talented she really is…
Anyways back to my review… I have been eagerly waiting to write up my review for Holding, because I didn’t want to spoil anything for readers of Altercation, the first book in the Playmaker Duet…so I forced myself to wait until now because spoilers suck. So here I am attempting to write a SPOILER FREE review while still sharing my thoughts about this incredible story!
Holding begins shortly after the events at the end of Altercation and holy moly what a great place to pick this story back up at. If you loved the adventure in the first part of the duet, then you are going to adore what happens next. Asher and Porter are a one-of-a-kind couple that will melt your heart and have you in tears after just a few words. Oh and did I forget to mention that this book will have you UGLY CRYING even more. Yep, that is right. Mignon Mykel’s words will give you all the feels and her characters will stick with you long after you reach the end…
Okay…so that is all I am going to say to avoid giving any major elements of this story away. All I can say is that you need to drop everything and read this duet right now!
Holding by Mignon Mykel is Book 2 in the Playmaker Duet and makes Book 5 in the Prescott Family series. If you have not yet read Book 1 in the Playmaker Duet, Altercation, please make sure you read it first. Holding is not a standalone and should be right right after Altercation.
Now, onto the review. Wow, what an honest, raw and emotionally driven piece by the amazing Mignon Mykel.
Holding takes us on a very vivid and emotional ride as we continue with Asher and Porters story as it picks up right where Altercation left off. After reading Altercation, and now Holding, I am so in love with Asher and Porter and every single one of the Prescotts. As much as I was yelling at both Asher and Porters stubbornness throughout their journey, I feel that that in it's self is a massive accomplishment for Mignon, being able to drag these emotional responses from people as they read her characters. Along with the yelling, I know it's probably one of the biggest 'ugly cry' books I've read to date.
I look forward to visiting with the Prescotts again.
I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.
Holding by Mignon Mykel is heartbreaking tale of love & loss and the odds stacked against them with the hope that in the end love will concur all. Holding is the send half of Mignon's Playmaker Duet and picks up right after Altercation left off and jumps right into the action. I normally give a little blurb of the story but I honestly don't wanna give away a single thing about this story. Reading Holding put me on a roller-coaster of emotions and I couldn't put it down and read it entirely in one sitting. Even though at times I wanted to give the main characters a smack to smarten them up I understood why each did what they did throughout the story. I felt their reasons for and enjoyed the ride this story took me on over this duet and loved seeing more of the Prescott family we've grown to love. Mignon has created an outstanding duet that compliment each other perfectly and will keep the reader glued to the story till the end. 5 "Always" stars for Holding by Mignon Mykel

I only thought I was emotional reading the first book. Holding did so much more to break my heart! The focus of this part was mainly on Porter. We already understand all that is going on with Asher in regard to her past and her feelings of not being good enough for Porter. The kidnapping only exacerbates those beliefs and pushes her further away from true happiness and finding acceptance. Watching Porter try to navigate through the pain and confusion he felt as Asher distanced herself from him broke my heart wide open. But I'm happy to say Mignon found the perfect way to mend it. I loved their reconciliation and re-connection. It was beautiful and everything that they both needed in that moment. Then everything that followed... I won't give anything away, but it was fabulous. I savored every moment that they had together and rejoiced in their new found love and passion. This was the perfect ending to Porter and Asher's duet.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Readers Copy of this book.
ou know that feeling you get when everything is just right, perfection has been reached, your heart is full and your in book heaven... well after reading this it's pretty much where I am right now, Holding is the perfect end to this duet, the ultimate ending for Porter and Asher, can I say anymore without giving something away.... No. Just grab this book, curl up and follow their journey, have your heartbreak, feel anger and frustration at the characters, oh lord did I just want to shake Asher at times and tell her to open her eyes... Porter lord Porter that man has the patience of a saint and loves hard. This book will consume you from start to finish and although you will feel your heartbreak and cry ugly tears throughout your journey this book will piece together your broken heart and soul the final piece of the puzzle just slotting into place.
What an amazing ending to this duet! I fell for Porter just a little more (which I was already head over heels for the boy in Altercation).
Holding in Part Two in the Duet Series and YOU MUST READ ALTERCATION before reading Holding. After the cliffhanger of Altercation my mind was racing trying to figure out what happened! So the opening to Holding surprised me a little.
Asher has some serious skeletons and ghosts to work through. Especially after the ordeal she and Avery went through. She's in survival mode and Porter has no clue how to help her. Asher loves Porter and his family more than anything in the world but she knows deep down that they will never accept her once they find out the "truth".
This is an angsty, emotional read. I cried for Porter. I cried for Asher. I cried for the Prescotts. I absolutely loved this fabulous ride of Asher and Porter. A fantastic series that looks that the realistic and raw journey that most have to take to their HEA.
After finishing Altercation I couldn't wait for the the next book Holding and I was so glad the wait wasn't that long. The cliffhanger at the end of Altercation had me at the edge of my seat and Holding pushed me off and broke me. This is part 2 of a duet so reading Part One is must!
Every character was touched. My heart broke for Asher and Porter, their world was turned upside down. Mignonette wrote them so beautifully that you could feel how raw their emotions were, their pain seeped off the pages. Their healing though was painful but it was a great story of healing, overcoming the past and letting things go.
I'm now going to open a bottle of wine as I need to repair my heart after reading this emotional journey and all the 'ugly crying' I did.
⭐️I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of his book in exchange for an honest review from the authors ⭐
This is part of a duet that includes Altercation and it must be read first as this story picks up right where that story leaves off. To bring you up to speed Porter and Asher met as a result of a car accident however their childhoods were complete opposites. Porter was raised by a close loving family and Asher was raised in foster care and her experience in the system was horrific. They have been together five years and all the ups and down have made them stronger and when they should be at their happiest their entire world comes crashing down. This is a story of Asher not being able to deal with what happened and Porter fighting hard enough for both of them to get back to where they were. It is an amazing story of the power of love that will stay with you long after you finish the book. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This is an amazing, ball out of the park conclusion to the Playmaker Duet. Though it was quite clear in Altercation that Porter and Asher’s relationship is never an easy one, Holding brings it to the ultimate level of trust, love and completion for the both of them, but not before dealing with the ghosts that have chased her for years. This book was an emotional rollercoaster for me and, being a crier, I cried my heart out through most of it and I loved it. I fell in love with Ms. Mykel’s writing when I had the opportunity to review Interference and I confidently took a chance on Porter’s story without knowing I would fall for him harder than I did for Caleb. Holding is an emotional, heartfelt and sweet tale of unwavering love. The tale of two people finding their path to build a future together despite their pasts and the load of curve balls life throws at them.
This is the second book in the Playmaker Duet and WOW what a conclusion Mignon Mykel gives us with Holding. Part one ends in a cliffhanger and this book picks up right at the same time. And if you thought Porter and Asher were tested in Altercation, just wait until you read Holding. They go through more than one couple should ever have to and are tested each and every step of the way.
The ups and downs you will feel as a reader of this book will put you through the ringer but it is so worth it for the ending!! I can't wait for more of Porter and Asher and the rest of the Prescott Family! Thank you Mignon For another wonderful book that I couldn't put down until I finished each and every page!
This was such a great conclusion to Porter and Asher's story. After reading Altercation, I felt like I was on the edge of my seat for the first half of this book. The characters have a lot of pain to process and I just wanted them to find their way back to each other. This book follows the tone of the first and progresses very naturally over a year or so.
Mykel showed us again why Porter should be in the ranks of top book boyfriends. His love and understanding of Asher was absolutely swoon worthy. You get a lot of self acceptance and healing from Asher in this book, this was something that I really wanted to see in the last story but the timeline of events was such that it worked perfectly for the books. You get to see the highs and lows of love, something I really appreciate in a book.
If you love stories where the characters are feel real and are beautifully flawed then you'll really like this story. I enjoyed every word and will miss these characters. 4 stars.
Well talk about a humdinger of n ending. I just love these two. First I cried for Ash then I cried for Prescott and then I cried for them both. This story was so realistic in how hard you might just have to fight for your happily ever after. I love that the author paid attention to the issues that Ash faced. The handling was well done and just felt real. Heck the entire series does and just makes you absolutely love these two and share in the pain and successes. Oh man and how can you not love the Prescott Clan they are just too much for words.
Love this and love what this author has done eve though she had my emotions all over the place. I will continue to be an avid fan of her writing but I have to say these two are my favorite so far.
There are times when you are reading a book and think just one more page, maybe another and then suddenly there are no more pages. Then you think to yourself OMG what did I just read? Holding is one of those books. No emotion was left unfelt whilst reading this book and the storyline just kept me gripped tightly within the pages, not letting go until their story was complete. Holding is part 2 of Porter and Asher's story and all I can say is that it was bloody brilliant!
After the heart stopping ending to Altercation, I couldn't wait to get started on the rest of the story. As the horrible events are pieced together, my heart shattered bit by bit. Then my heart hurt for a whole different reason...I could literally feel their pain in the author's words. Porter and Asher's story gets messy and the journey to their happily ever after isn't an easy one, but in the end, it's just so worthwhile!
Having read anything and everything by Mignon Mykel, Porter and Asher's story is by far my favorite! I have read all four books in their story, the 2 book duet as well as the 2 prequel stories, and couldn't put them down! There are ups and downs in every relationship, and Porter and Asher are no different. Mignon has you falling in love with them, feeling every bit of pain, and eagerly hoping for the best ending possible for these two!! Loved every bit their story!!
This is the continuation of Porter and Asher's story, and it hits you in the feels. After feeling like they can't catch a break, will things turn around for these 2? Can Asher let her past demons go to have a future she deserves, and have the family she needs. Will Porter lover her even when he finds out, will it even matter? This book, this duet, is a must read. I can't say how great this book is, phenomenally written.
This is a definite must read! This is the second book in the duet. Porter and Asher have definitely had their ups and downs but the story is absolutely amazing! Porter is such a great man and Asher is the epitome of a strong heroine. I couldn't put it down! Mignon has such a way of spinning a story. She lifts you up, breaks your heart, and makes you feel the characters you are reading.
The Playmaker duet was my favorite read of the year! I'm really thankful to have had the opportunity of watching Asher and Porter's growth over the years. They feel like real people to me. I feel like I've laughed with them and cried with them through the love, joy and heartache. Holding left me with a warmth in my heart and a smile on my face!
I literally felt a part of Asher and Porter's journey!! Holding was definitely the perfect ending to Altercation!! It gave you every feel you could possibly go through reading a book. Not one for spoilers I will say you absolutely need to read Asher and Porter's story you will NOT be disappointed!!!
What can I say! What a fabulous ending to the duet. I absolutely loved the holding and the way that mignon just draws you into the lives of her characters. Porter and Asher haven't had a smooth run, and holding is full of ups and downs and lots of emotion which I've come to expect from one of mignon stories. Do yourself a favour and read the series!
