Rate this book

These authors have created a book to really help students visualize mathematics for better comprehension. By creating algebraic visual side-by-sides to solve various problems in the examples, the authors show students the relationship of the algebraic solution with the visual, often graphical, solution. In addition, the authors have added a variety of new tools to help students better use the book for maximum effectiveness to not only pass the course, but truly understand the material.

A great book, covers a full year of mathematics with an abundance of scientific applications and engineering applications using logarithms, polynomial functions, and conic sections. I love the conic sections portion because it shows the relevance of circles, ellipses and parabolas in civil engineering when constructing a highway relating to a bridge with parabolic semicircular arches, finding the focal radii, equation that describes the situation. Moreover, the hyperbolas are used for electronics and navigation engineering with SONAR to find the location of particular point in the middle of nowhere, this is the beauty of mathematics. People like to think in society that math is dull, theory, but this book can turn on the bulb of enrichment and motivation to anyone wanting to learn math, major in math, science, economics or engineering. In the sequences section, there is the multiplier effect using economics as an application learning tool.
