Rate this book
This is the first book in the True Bliss series. However, it can be read by itself (stand-alone).

Michael Dwyer has it all. He's good-looking, tall, popular, and is one of the best football players his small Minnesota hometown has ever seen. He's being courted by the NFL draft out of college. Michael also has a deep, dark secret that could endanger his life and career: he's gay. And the man of his dreams turns out to be his teammate and rival quarterback, Terrence Richmond. Will Michael survive his bid to become an NFL star and get out of his hometown, or will the pros discover his secret and tear him apart?

This book contains sexually explicit content not suited for those under the age of 18. The book is approximately 25,000 words, has a happy but realistic ending and does not end in a cliffhanger

Sweet little M/M sports novella.

I was gifted an ARC of this book but this in no way affects my impersonal review of this story.

Firstly, I'm not sure if the clean copy will start here, but I found the prologue confusing, because it starts at a certain point in time where Michael and Terrence are together. We then go into the first chapter and start their story but the ending of the book goes part where the prologue kicks in, so I'm confused as to why it is there and what purpose it serves? A prologue by definition is meant to be an introduction to the story and that isn't what this is. I'm not going to mention formatting or typo's because it's an arc and hopefully it's all cleaned up for the released edition.

Once I got past all of the confusion of what that prologue was and why is was there, I found the rest of the book easy reading. You have to throw your realism out of the window because this is pure book fluff but you know I enjoy light, easy, feel good reads with cute boys. The sex scenes were ok, but threw you out of them slightly with the use of odd phrases like member and organ - whilst correct in terminology in my experience are rarely used at sexytimes and was kind of offputting.

Overall if you are looking to spend a couple of hours reading something that flows easily and is kind of sweet, then pick this up and give it a whirl.

Maybe should have figured with the cheesy title and cover that this wouldn't be the greatest.

It wasn't terrible, but I had a number of issues with it.

It has a prologue that's completely unnecessary and is actually set somewhere in the middle of the time line of the story, so it felt like going backwards when I got to chapter 1.

The main relationship went from "we barely talk to each other" to "let's have sex, baby" to "I love you" WAAAAAAY too quickly for my liking. Same with some of the other relationships in the book (they escalated really suddenly and unrealistically).

I was also disappointed that we were given this exciting moment at the end which was promptly abandoned in favour of throwing in a sex scene (the sex scene was not the exciting bit).

And finally, I'm usually forgiving of poor editing in a book, but this one really stood out. I don't know if it was just the copy I had (a mobi file) but there were carriage returns between every 10 words or so. Didn't matter if it was the middle of a sentence. There'd suddenly be a break in the text. It was very distracting. Also some other little typos and missing words etc.

I hate to leave a review that's all negative, but I really can't think of much else to say about this book.

Sweet romance between 2 closeted pro football players

A sweet romance between 2 closeted pro football players.

Michael grew up in a small Minnesota town, deeply closeted and finding escape in football. After playing for MSU (Mankato State) he earns a spot as a San Francisco 49'er. For the first time he finds a little breathing room (outside of training camp) and finally gets to experience his first real kiss, intimacy, relationship and falling in love.

The book is a quick read but an enjoyable one- I liked the small details showing how a shy, inexperienced boy steels himself to make his way out of Minnesota and how it feels to be an awkward newbie visiting his first gay bar at 21 years old.

Potentially realistic and optimistic, it
was a sweet coming of age story with a HEA.

The relationship between Michael and Terrance is hot (the little bit that they have together), but the book mostly contains Michael's inner thoughts, mostly about football (which the terminology and the dates of preseason games are very incorrect and will bother an NFL football fan like I am), and Michael falls in love without very much interaction with Terrance on the page (although there is a lot of inner monologue about their relationship). The formatting his atrocious, many paragraph breaks are in the middle of paragraphs. Also, chapter 12, which makes no sense because it's the prologue and doesn't really have a place in the story. Because of this, the book is uncomfortable to read.

I'm kind of conflicted with this story. The hero is small town boy who finally leaves the homophobic surrounding he grew up in and moves to San Francisco to play professional football. He finally can come out of the closet with his older idol, but they don't. I can't believe that nobody knew they were gay, even though they did go to gay bars, on dates and the hero furnishes his new flat with colours typical of a stereotyped gay: professional football players are normally followed by the media and have a lot of friends and acquaintances: how did the story never come out? Then there is the way the older player solves the issue linked to a potential rival for the love of his man - not acceptable at all!

I'm not a fan of football but I am a fan of Men & Athletes. Already this is a good book! I really, REALLY loved the relationship between the two men and how we got to read the inner monologues of Michael. Terrence was SO sweet to Michael to not push him into sex until he was ready! (I actually had a Girl Moment, thinking "Aww!")

I had difficulty when he decorated his new place ('a gay mecca') but he's still in the closet at work. I guess he's not having straight teammates over-- ever-- so they can't make trouble for him in the locker room.

Still well worth the price of admission!

The cover had me a bit confused...I thought Terrance was black. The love between the two was a bit far fetched for a non-shifter book. And I'm a bit concerned about the violence and how easily it was forgotten. And the ending was rushed.

Sorprendentemente muy bien ehh, me gusta que el romance aunque es muy súbito está contado con cierta cadencia y le permite a los personajes explorar un poco sus emociones, algo que difícilmente vemos en personajes masculinos.

Sweet...

Sweet, but not quite what I was hoping for. A bit slow in parts and too much glossing over details that would have made the story better.

Go Deep (ARC) was graciously provided to me by the author, Sam Elswit, for my honest review.

Go Deep, by Sam Elswit, is a story that made my heart grow and expand even more for every single person of the LGBTQ Community. The primary theme of this book touches lightly upon the struggle, to try and fit-in with society, which exists for so many. A struggle that shouldn't be present at all, but unfortunately does. Go Deep is a story about a young man who grows up in very difficult times, through ignorance as well as homophobia. My heart breaks for this young man numerous times throughout this story.

Michael Dwyer (MC) is a wonderful, strong, kind, thoughtful and caring individual who craves survival. He does what he has to just to be able to be the person who he wants to peacefully be. Throughout his life, Michael lives the best he can. He battles his way through many trials and tribulations, and finally discovers who he truly is. During the very important early years, he begins to learn who he is and the best ways to survive. One of the most important things for Michael, is his happiness. So, he finds something that he enjoys that also makes him happy. I believe that in today's society, there are many individuals who would be able to relate to what this courageous young man is trying to do.

While there are many parts of the story that are not completely believable, nor did I particularly care for them, story or no story, there are many parts which do bring on the warm-fuzzies and tears. I actually did find myself cheering for Michael and his new friends.

Go Deep is a story with a good premise. There is potential. I applaud the overall theme of survival and acceptance. I feel that it should have a more believable secondary theme with more overall development, structure, depth, and a good cover, along with more well-rounded secondary characters.

Go Deep is a much needed story for many readers to not only escape to, but, to also acquire the knowledge on how to begin to try to survive themselves. Survival in a, at times, stringent society proves to be a great challenge for many, and, they need something to escape to as they continue to live in an ever-changing society. I am certainly glad for the existence of anything good that will help people remain in their "happy place." :)

Sam Elswit is a new author to me. I enjoy reading books in this genre as well as sports so I thought I would give it a go.

This is one of those books that had me confused from the get go. Then when it progressed I was able to follow. The flow was fast paced and there is time jumps at the beginning. I wish I could say there was more but this is one of those instant love books that just jumps right in. I don’t mind that, though, but this it seems to come from left field. Usually, there is a build up a bit. Not this one. He barely made it to the team goes to the cafeteria, then BAM he introduces himself to Terrance, and “his world tilts on its axis.”

Now the premise I loved. The MC, Michael, I loved. He is strong, thoughtful and lives the best he can in his life all the while hiding. He came from a town in Minnesota, He is in the closet and afraid to come out. He is in the NFL and I won’t say it’s frowned upon but it isn’t out there either. My heart breaks for that. That you can't just be yourself and love who you want.

Terrence the big quarterback that lives his life in the closet as well. So when Terrance and Michael make that connection they keep it a secret. They don’t want the homophobic teammates finding out.

I do have to say when he saw The Golden Gate Bridge for the first time I laughed and was excited for him. There is drama, friendship and a lot of male testosterone. If you like sports and its instant love read this book.

A very enjoyable short read. Michael was a rookie professional football player, quarterback, who was brought in to take the current veteran quarterback's place. He was gay and in the closet and being gay was not good in the NFL due to all the homophobia. He finally made it to SanFrancisco to play for the 49ers, the gay capitol of the world. He was taken to a gay club by 2 other gay players to Michael's surprise. Ever since he started with the team he had formed a crush on the veteran quarterback, Terrence, and he meets up with him at the club. Their attraction is explosive in and out of bed. But after another gay player hits on Michael, assaulting him, Terrence is furious wanting revenge. Michael is his...This is actually a very heartwarming story. Good read❤️

Welcome to the world of American Football where the players are tough and the game is rough. Racism and homophobia still rule so black players have a hard time and don't even think about being black and gay.
Terrence was the 49ers but he is older and the team have brought in Michael to replace him. Michael is quietly gay and hopelessly in love with Terrence.
Terrence US big and black and gay but so far in the closet he can't be seen behind the coats!! He also fancies Michael and they do hook up at the end of camp.
The story expands and moves at a very fast pace until it reaches its thrilling conclusion.
This is a really good read.

I received an ARC and this is my voluntary review

Very disappointed in this book. It had the potential to be much better. No character development. It was hard to feel for the characters. Book seemed rushed. Like someone was trying to tell a long story but the person listening kept tapping their foot.

I unjoyed this book. As I write my first book, I hope it will be as enjoyable as GoDeep was. I enjoyed it I can relare to the characters having to be closeted and being in a position where spending time with the man I love is too dangerous. For me it was the military in the mid 80's. For Michael and Terrance it's the NFL. This is a novella which is good and bad. The good is it's a quick read, the bad is t's a quick read that I wanted to contiue on past the last page. I look forwaard to reading more by Sam Elswit. This book is worth reading. I am not a big NFL ffan, I like college football better, but that won't matter. Even if you aren"'t a football fan you'll love this book.
