One mistake leads to a year of exile...
Used to the busy playground of Winter Park, police chief Reese Daniels is shipped off to sleepy Lake City, Colorado. She takes the job of sheriff seriously, but is clear to one and this year is just a blip in her life. When it's done, she's gone.
Forest Ranger M. Z. Morgan has lived in Lake City long enough to be considered a local. The pace, the quiet and the many friends make life there well worth the lack of dating material. A girlfriend would still be nice, and the new sheriff is easy on the eyes. It's entirely natural for Morgan and Reese to be friendly, but Reese's repeated reminders that she's not sticking around makes it impossible for anything more between them.

3.50 Stars. For Fallback Friday week 2 I decided to go with 2009’s No Strings by Gerri Hill. I had read Hill’s new book Moonlight Avenue this week and really enjoyed it so I was in the mood to read another of hers. Most of you already know Fallback Friday came as a fun way to get myself to read some of my older lesfic collection that is just sitting their getting dusty. We read so many new releases that it is easy to neglect older books. I know a few people have decided to join in Fallback Friday’s and if you think it might help you cross some of your to read list off or your library collections, I hope you will join us too:)
I’m an unapologetic Hill fan. Her writing makes me feel comfortable. I do have to admit this book was slower paced than I was hoping for. The two leads are a police chief and a forest ranger. With those jobs I thought there would be some good excitement or at least some interesting times to come. However, I have never seen a town with so little crime. Not even a parking ticket was given out. There were two quick scenes with a little excitement, but they both fizzled out a bit and were not as gripping as I was hoping. It was a lot of sitting in the office chatting or sitting at the bar chatting. I was never bored, but I have to admit I was close a few times.
When it came to the romance that part I enjoyed. These two had good chemistry which always works for me. The sex scenes were good too. With a title like No Strings, you can guess that the characters jumped into bed quickly. I enjoyed watching a bond form between them even though it was not what they wanted.
While this book is a decade old, I’m happy to say it does not feel its age. Hill could put this book out tomorrow and you would not notice the difference. There was not a single thing, not even a tech reference, just nothing that dated this book.

After an indiscretion gone very wrong, police chief Reese Daniels is transferred for a year to sleepy Lake City, Colorado. She’s determined to go through that year and then back to her old position. Forest Ranger M. Z. Morgan is the only lesbian in town, that is until Reese arrives with her good looks and broody personality. Eventually, both women start a friendship until Reese suggests a no-strings relationship. As the winter goes by, their intense chemistry on and off the bed is hard to deny but their connection is only temporary, isn’t it?
This is another good short-ish novel by Gerri Hill written in 2009 which has been recently released in audiobook format. Here Ms. Hill combines her usual love for nature and romance with the dynamics of a small town. For me, the best part of this story is the chemistry between the mains built with clever dialogues and situations. Ms. Hill knows how to turn the temperature up in her novels from the time Reese and Morgan meet until they finally act on their attraction. The sex scenes are well written as it’s customary with this author.
This is a small town romance and there are a number of important secondary characters who, as in any little place, tend to meddle in everyone else’s affairs. Ms. Hill did great in creating each one of them with their distinctive temperaments, background stories and personality traits. Somehow they all manage to bring Reese and Morgan together and form a tight community. Considering that this romance involves a police officer and a forest ranger there is little excitement in the action department but it’s obviously not the purpose of this novel, nothing in the cover or blurb suggests that.
I’ve read this book a long time ago and thought it was just ok, but when I saw that the audiobook was narrated by Abby Craden, I decided to give it a listen. I’m happy to say that this is another story that Ms. Craden has improved with her heartfelt interpretation. this book is hard to narrate due to the number of different characters but Ms. Craden did an excellent job. As usual, the main leads have recognisable voices and her interpretation of the range of different emotions is spot-on. With a duration of 5 hours and 42 minutes, this is a short listen but it’s available for free with a Scribd subscription.
Overall, a very good lesbian no-strings romance audiobook. 4 stars for the story, 5 stars for the narration. 4.5 stars.

Well, that was fun! No Strings by Gerri Hill was my Falback Friday read – even though it was originally published in 2009, the audio book came out ten years later. I’m glad Bella decided to re-publish it, because Abby Craden’s masterful performance made the book feel as fresh as it was written today.
I loved spending a winter with forest ranger M. Z. Morgan (you will have so much fun finding out what M. Z. stands for) and police chief Reece Daniels in the majestic Rocky Mountain landscape. We learn all that goes on in Lake City where everybody knows everybody’s business in a few minutes flat. Gossip is what keeps them all entertained as hardly anything happens in winter. Hill knows how to write nature and the hilarious antics of the town’s people was great fun. Reece and Morgan and their silly rules had marvelous chemistry and Abby Craden just did her usual magic. She has such a wide range of voices, I marvel about that every time.
Reece’s arrival in Lake City as the interim chief of police shakes up plenty. It shakes up Morgan as well when they – as the only two lesbians in the county - decide to seek out each other’s company in a no-strings-sex-arrangement. They have to be on the down-low to avoid gossip of course, Ha! Like that can ever happen in a town like Lake City.
“I think that’s a mistake. I think you’re both being stubborn about these stupid rules you started out with and neither wants to be the one to admit they crossed the line.” Tina bumped her arm. “Stubborn and immature.”
“Immature? Immature would be not being able to keep the relationship where it was meant to be. Immature would be to fall in love. But keeping the secret inside? That’s not being immature,” Morgan said as she tapped her chest. “That’s being an adult.”
Tina shook her head. “No, that’s being just plain stupid.”’

This review is for Gerri Hill’s No Strings audiobook narrated by Abby Craden. 4.5 Stars for the audiobook. Extra half star for Craden’s narration.
I read the ebook around 2013 (and re-read it at least once since then). Recently, I was looking for an new audiobook and saw that this story finally came out in audio and narrated by Abby Craden – SOLD. I’ll go ahead with a written review, since I wasn’t writing many reviews back in 2013.
For the audiobook – Abby Craden is excellent as always. She voices a number of characters effortlessly (to me, at least) - the mains, the townspeople both male and female. A town where everybody knows everyone’s business. After all, there is not much else to do. The couple try to be discrete, but they are not fooling anybody. I loved both characters.
Reese Daniels accepts the Police Chief position for the tiny resort town of Lake City, Colorado, specifying she will only stay for one year, and then she will be gone. Previously she was in a dream job as Chief of the large, resort town of Winter Park. Until she was caught with the Mayor’s wife. I wonder if she was set up by the wife? Reese doesn’t date.

The two strike up a deal – no strings, no kissing, just sex. Until they become friends, then very good friends and sex becomes more than just sex. This is a very pleasant book to read or listen to Craden’s excellent narration.
NOTE: Have you noticed the time between publication of a new book and its audiobook is now almost zero? I hope they continue to put out audiobooks of older books like this one.

3.5 Stars (audible version) Solid lesfic but lacked a bit of passion/pining.. ?... at the start
It's Gerri Hill and Abby Craden, you know it's going to be good. However, the set up lacked the yearning, pining, wanting build-up before the MC's get together. Their sexual relationship starts as more of a convenience. Like, "I'm gay and you're gay. We are the only gays in this town. How about we hook up while I'm around? It beats being bored all winter." Yeah... that had me swooning.
HOWEVER... They are so cute together and their banter and interactions were great and I loved them and wanted them to have a nice HEA.

This was a sweet, low-angst, friends-to-lovers romance between the only two lesbians in town (literally). While the book didn’t have me glued to the pages, it was still a quick and enjoyable read with likeable characters. The slow burn between Reese and Morgan felt natural and believable. One of the highlights for me was their banter, which brought a cute smile to my face. And of course, Abby Craden’s performance in the audiobook was, as always, brilliant!

This was alright. It was a quick read, well written, predictable, fluffy, but with great sex scenes! Ms. Hill can certainly write very well, and the chemistry was undeniable. The story was very slow paced with not much drama though, and I didn't really connect with the two MCs. The townspeople should have been endearing, and in a way they were with their full on acceptance of two gay ladies in their tiny population, but their meddling became tiring for me. Maybe that's the big city girl in me who likes my business being my own, and the girl who slinks to the floor and pretends not to be home when someone knocks on the door. I doubt I could get away with that in this town.
The last chapter was over the top..... we have the obligatory formula of no communication about true feelings which leads to heart break, then come the large tearful declarations of undying love while embracing on a porch, over the top language, a new puppy thrown in, then lo and behold they acquire horses! Hooray for lesbians in the wilderness! It was.....just....too much. Overall 3 stars.

This book is a solid 5 stars for me. I loved it from start to finish. It has just the right amount of drama, angst, and romance. The perfect balance in my opinion. The chemistry and sex scenes between the two main characters are wonderful. I can’t wait to listen or read so much more from Geri Hill. I’m glad to have plenty to choose from.

Wow. I have only read a few of Gerri Hill’s romances and this is the steamiest one I have ever read. Just like like wow. Go Gerri! This audiobook was read by Abby Craden and she is a bad .... shut your mouth. Lol

No strings is the perfect small town romance. The book was light with a sweet storyline and would be perfect for lounging by the beach on holiday.
Reese is an interim sheriff in the small town of Lake City. She’s been placed there for a year as punishment for sleeping with the majors wife in her last job. In Lake City, she meets Morgan who is the forest ranger and loved by the whole town. Knowing Reese is leaving in a year, they decide that they can have a ‘No Strings’ relationship for the year and enjoy the sex while it’s there. No harm right?
This is a fun romance with its fair share of comedic value that had me laughing out loud to some of the antics of the people from this small town. As with many Gerri Hill novels, I was sucked in from chapter one and enjoyed the banter between her characters.
The characters where highly entertaining and I especially enjoyed the moments with Reese being dragged out of her comfort zone in this small town environment.
I reckon this book will stay on my re-read list as a good pick me up book that I can read over and over.

No Strings by Gerri Hill is another great read, though it’s slower paced than her usual books. The story follows a police chief and a forest ranger in a small town with little crime, leading to many scenes of casual chatting rather than high-stakes action. This was exactly what I needed though when I listened to the audiobook.
The romance is so sweet, and the two leads have great chemistry. Although they begin their physical relationship pretty quickly in this novel due to their no-strings-attached relationship, it evolves believably into something more and I couldn't help but think how perfectly Gerri Hill crafted these two characters for each other.

You know... the flood of Gerri Hill's back catalog being released on audiobook and narrated by Abby Craden is my happy place. It just is. This one was just released on December 31 and I'm trying to delay gratification and not listen to them all immediately. Good luck. In this case I made it, what... a few days? lol
This one is especially fun in the first half while the two MCs get to know one another. I laughed regularly and smiled at their banter. Police Chief Reese Daniels gets a temporary one year assignment in the little Colorado resort town of Lake City, where Forest Ranger M.Z. Morgan, the town's only single lesbian, resides. Knowing Chief Daniels' time there is limited, much like the selection of available women, they decide to have a "no strings attached" sexual relationship to pass the time and keep loneliness at bay. Winters are very long and boring, after all. But to keep it as impersonal as possible, Morgan insists on a no-kissing rule and they both go in believing it will be fine, because why can't two grown women just enjoy each other? Surely they won't fall for each other, right? Gerri always writes such likable characters and Abby brings them to life beautifully. I think I may have liked the audiobook even more than the book - and at just 5-1/2 hours, it's a quick listen. Really enjoyed it.

Quite superb writer who really takes a story and makes it her own. Wonderful secondary characters who make the whole tale into a world of it's own. Love it.

Loved this book. It's probably not going to change the world but a good story that ended well. I need my books to end well. There's enough realism in my life. ;-)

A lovely fluffy romance story. I loved they dynamics between the two MCs. They playful interactions and pretended hated name callings. It made me smile, laugh, and pulled on the heart strings.
Morgan has just said goodbye to her best friend of the last 15 years. She is lonely and has had a string of bad hookups. The latest being her bosses straight daughter. Captain Reese Daniels is dreading her sentence in a sleepy little town. She is stand-offish with the towns people and just wants the next year to be over with so she can move on with her life. Then Reese and Morgan meet. Morgan intrigues Reese and she helps to pull Reese out and makes her laugh. After they get to know one another a little bit and realizing there is attract between them, they make an agreement to a no strings attached fling with a no kissing rule. As time goes on they spend more and more time together, the kissing rule gets thrown out the window, they are together nightly, and feelings continue to grow and deepen.

I really loved this hot romance between a park ranger and the new temporary Sheriff. The Sheriff is only there for a year so a carefree no-strings attached arrangement ensues. What can go wrong? :)

Well this was a surprise. Finally another ff novel I actually enjoyed.
This was sweet, gentle and the audio narration was on point. Loved it!

**Reread this one today. I can tell I'm in a romance sort of mood because I loved the story today. I'm not adjusting my rating but today, it probably would have been a 5. I'm just in that sort of mood.**

Although I often find this author’s stories too rushed, I found this one well-paced. The only oddities were the early hookup with “Moany Mona” who sounded almost sexually abusive, and a random ex, Stephanie, surfacing. It would’ve made much more sense for Mona to show up later. The dead ends knocked this one down a star.

Another cracker by Gerri Hill, who has become a reliable and safe pair of hands for a novel that is beautifully written, well developed and has a lovable set of characters.

I confess i jumped some pages ...just felt they bore me but in general the story was pretty good...nice romantic setup

Really enjoyed this read. The repartee between the two characters is great. Lots of outdoorsy-ness. Author nails the small-town everyone-in-everyone's-business-but-we-care-about-you feel very well.
