The Woman He Wanted

Rate this book
She was the woman he wanted.

This wasn’t something Kellen Edwards believed; it was what he knew. It was what he felt the first moment he laid eyes on Bailey Green. It was like they’d known each other in a previous life and their souls had sought each other out, hers moving to Atlanta from Barbados at a young age, and his moving back to Atlanta after a hiatus in Baltimore and Louisiana. But despite knowing that this woman is his, fate won’t make their union an easy one.

His family life begins to unravel as tensions rise between him and his brother, and a dark secret shadowing Bailey’s life tries to interfere with their “happily ever after.” It’s not until a trip back to Barbados, back to the house where she grew up and where a mysterious man still walks the halls at night, do they begin to unravel the mystery that will either make their relationship last, or destroy it altogether.

When is it okay NOT to love your mother?

Bailey's mother Alice hates her -- always has -- always will -- she harbors a secret and Bailey is a daily reminder of the past. Alice is evil personified -- she's a villainous, hate-filled woman that has never loved her first-born daughter.

The thing about secrets are -- sometimes -- they don't always stay hidden. An injustice has been allowed to fester and grow to a point that it's difficult to separate the lies from the truth. Now, it's time for someone to pay for their treachery and Bailey's life may hang in the balance if the mystery remains unsolved.

Luckily for Bailey, she won't have to take this journey alone; fate has delivered Bailey her very own Rock of Gibraltar named Dr. Kellan Edwards and she'll need every ounce of his strength to survive what's to come -- they both will!

I have read this author before and I read this book on Kindle Unlimited.

This is Kellen and Bailey's story. This story had triggers for me because this is a story of a mother who treated her children differently. She hated the first one (Bailey) and even allowed her to be abused and yet she would lay down her life for her other two children. These are the kinds of women that I totally despise, so the story made me want to totally give Alice the beat-down she so richly deserved.

I loved that no matter what Bailey faced Kellen was her knight in shining armour and was there for her every step of the way. There is a paranormal element to this story.

Definitely worth a read.

Meeting the love of your life at Starbucks!

K. ALEX Walker's story is spot on. Her description of what I Island people think about the spirit World is spot on. Ms. Walker's description of island food. Was very accurate and took me back to my childhood. Peas and rice when she said rice and pigeon peas and callaloo. Miss Walker have the perfect mix of island adventure murder mystery and definitely romance. I wasn't surprised this walk is a very good writer and she really did put me in the middle of it all and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't imagine a mother not loving her own child no matter the circumstances of her conception. We should all be so lucky to have A man like Kellen to lo Bailey the way he loved her. And the strength of Bailey to Indore a mother who didn't love her. This was a great story and I definitely recommend it to you.

This is my first novel by this author; but it will not be my last. It was wonderful!
Kellen was oh so amazing with Bailey's hang-ups. He loved, trusted, and respected her. He was her rock and sounding board. Bailey was genuine-a real sweetheart. This couple really was a great match.
The love scenes were hot! Kellen really took care of his woman-like a real man should.

Favorite Quotes:
"If he didn’t stop himself, he would stick her name at the end of every sentence. It tasted amazing on his tongue.""

"He held her quivering body close, reaching his orgasm in the flurry of her own, and then whispered in her ear how much he loved her, in every language that he knew."

This was a suspenseful read. I think there was a lot of twists and turns in the story. The only issue I had was that the story took to long to get entertaining. It was really slow in the beginning

I enjoyed the way K. Alex Walker weaved spirituality into this romance mystery. Kellen & Bailey are drawn together in a way that feels likes instalove but unfolds like a slow burn. Both Kellen & Bailey are running from family dysfunction and when they lean on each other their trust and love show through. I really loved the mystery aspect of the story. I am happy to find K. Alex Walker's stories and cannot wait to read more.

This was a really engaging read with a very strong backstory. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the love story between Kellen and Bailey. I mean, I just loved the way Kellen loved Bailey. He just accepted her without any limits. The backstory/plot was quite interesting as well, which is why this deserves 5 stars. I am partial that Bailey is Bajan and that is also my background as well. The interweaving of West Indian beliefs about spirtuality and folklore was done beautifully and I really appreciated the accuracy of the description of our culture, right down to the macaroni pie and cou cou, which is uniquely Bajan cuisine lol But also, the author paid special attention to what I always question in some of these books where we have brothers or men that are related to each other who are all white and then they all end up with black wives/women. Nobody thinks that's odd? Well, this is the first time that actually gets addressed in an interracial romance novel that I've ever read, and I've read a lot lol Bailey questions Kellen regarding how odd it is that his brother also has a Black woman and what's up with that and he answers her beautifully. There's also discussion about how Bailey feels about her natural hair and sort of hiding it from her White boyfriend, which is hilarious to me. In my own experience, I wear wigs/weaves/braids and I just come out with it about my natural hair in the beginning so there's no mystery about it. Some White people have had zero exposure to the wonders of Black hair and they are naturally curious about it, I guess. But the way Kellen is about Bailey's natural hair, without the all the gook in it, was just lovely. Basically, the whole story was lovely and also the side story of Kellen's brother's struggle with alcohol and how it affects his family is written very well also. Also, emphasizes that not all mothers are good mothers. It's a cautionary tale, too. This is all around a great book.

An Exhilarating and Refreshing Read.

Where to begin… In the beginning, I thought to myself. What is this??!!!This is not what I normally expect from this author. I have always enjoyed her book, but this one. This one is WOWWW!!! This book gives you different genres. If you enjoy mystery, suspense, romance, BWWM romance, a little sex. Not too much spanking then this is for you.

Kellen is SEXY, PROTECTIVE, DEPENDABLE, SUPPORTIVE, FINE, HARD WORKING… What a MAN!!! What a MAN!!! Kellen knows what he wants and doesn’t shy away from it, no matter how weird things got he stood by the woman that he loves. The woman he wanted. Some of the stuff that Bailey put him through would have had most men running.

I liked Bailey even when thinks got crazy (PAGE TURNER CRAZY). Throughout this well written book, you are able to get an understanding of why Bailey is so insecure. As the story develops I liked that Bailey became emotionally stronger. There are no words that can describe Bailey’s mother. Wait, yes there is…. CRAZY ASS…. CERTIFIABLE PSYCHOTIC…. MISERABLE SELFESS BITCH…

My last words…. READ THE BOOK… Make sure you find a comfortable setting before you start.

I was a bit disappointed with how the book began. For me it was slow and confusing and it took lots of strength for me to continue reading it. But as the the story picked up, it became enthralling and couldn't stop reading.
I think "the tortured and weak" female role has been over done and rarely read books that portray females especially black females like that, but in this instance the character development of Bailey was depicted quite well and that maintained my interest. I love alpha males but it was refreshing to see that even though Kellen wasn't quite so, he still was able to maintain his own.
Am not a fan of books with the 'supernatural' addition, but it wasn't quite as bad as I'd expected.
Mixed feelings about this books, but mostly impressed.

Lately K Alex been pi**ing me off. How did her mom not serve any jail time for killing an innocent man all cause he was in love with her and she tried to hide it from Nigel. And how could Nigel still want anything at all to do with Alice when he found out how she treated their daughter and how she let her get molested by her cousin???🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. Alice was the most disturbing, disgusting pos on the planet. EVERYONE in Bailey's family needed their asses whupped. No one but Kellen stood up for her. And the fact Erwin got away with raping Bailey as a kid and God knows how many others I'm like wtf did I just read? This is the third book I've read now by Walker where no one paid for their crimes. Like damn it's bad enough in real life but in the books I'm reading as well. Might as well stick to the damn news.

This book had so much going on. It wasn't a simple romance where man meets woman. They date. Have issues. Break up. Reconcile. Say ILU and live happily ever after. There's a murder mystery, alcoholism, rape, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglect...it was a bit too much. The romance kind of was a back story from about the 60% mark til the end. The title doesn't even make any sense based on what I just read. I still don't understand why the name of this series is Angels and Assassins when the MCs are doctors and baristas. Maybe I'm looking too deep into this. Too much was happening in this book and it took a lot of the focus away from the romance.

K. Alex Walker is back with another great read. This book has it all suspense, mystery, romance, crazy family. I was completely wrapped up with Bailey and Kellan's story. The author does a great job of showing the impact of addiction and physical abuse on the individual and the family. Both Bailey and Kellan have all kinds of family issues and drama but manage to keep their love strong. I'm always excited to read this authors books and see the growth in her characters and stories and believe me this story doesn't disappoint.

I Know this is Not a Series, but...

K. Alex Walker has done it again! I know this is not a series, but I love how you incorporate characters from Angel & Assassins along with the characters from Fated & Fighting Chance. I love the way you actually develop the characters. Such a rare occurrence these days. Your books I can actually skip the love scenes because I am too engrossed in the story. The "sex" doesn't sale your books, the high strung plot lines are what draw your readers in, as it should be. I would also like to applaud your editor. So many times with ebooks the editing is horrendous. Not with your books, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate not having to decipher what you were REALLY trying to say.
I LOVE Kellen & Bailey's story. The mysticism of the old Carribean & African folklore, with the gentle reminder that our cultures are not the only one that these stories arise from, or the only culture to believe in them. Beautifully written.
**********Spoiler Alert*********
The only issue I had with the book was with Nigel's request of Bailey regarding Alice. I know Alice was the love of his life. I could see his forgiveness in her keeping the true nature of Bailey's paternity. What I cannot see him or any man be able to forgive is how Alice allowed that MONSTER to prey upon that child, HIS child! The one he helped raise and loved her as if she were his seed! That part made my skin crawl, especially since theough her ciwardice she never apologized TO Bailey. I love how Bailey had been able to hold her own in that instance. Showing how much Kellen's love was helping to heal her.
Excellent quick read, now I am thirsting for Angels. & Assassins 2 . the teaser was too delish!

AMAZINGLY Suspenseful!!!

This author has done it again, with this suspenseful book and the conclusion of the best friends of Tayler, Ethan & Kellan. This book caters on Bailey Green and Kellan Edwards. Do you believe in fate? Well if K Alex's books has shown us, it's yes you most definitely should. This very fascinating book take us through Bailey Green's very hard tumultuous life, which doesn't seem to be getting easier until Kellan Edwards comes into it. Kellan has had his share of bad relationships and in order to escape the stress and headache of one failed relationship he decides to move back to Atlanta. Although he has sworn off relationships and is intent on just having fun, as soon as he sees Bailey while getting coffee he has every thought of marrying her. Kellan won't let Bailey give up on what he's trying to build with her and is intent on healing whatever has gone wring in her life. This book is filled with so much drama and intrigue you just simply have to get it to experience it. You won't be disappointed especially with that us revealed with Bailey's past. I'm very much looking forward to K Alex's next book!!!

Wow all these twists and turns

Kellen and Bailey 😍😍😍, this story had me at the edge of my seat the whole time reading it. Baileys mother and uncle/cousin was something else but her mother really. I believe she should have gotten worst punishment for sure. But no matter what she hated that Nigel still thought of her as his daughter. This plot was amazing I can not stop saying this. Click to buy NOW you will not be disappointed. I will say the ending seemed rushed and I wish we got more of their after story especially his brothers!

Better than expected...

This one has been collecting "dust" in my library for awhile. Sometimes I'll read the premise and or reviews and before I know it I'm one-clicking it
Then go over the plot again right before I plan to read the novel and be like.. "What was I thinking when I bought this"?!? So ill skip over it for months. But I finally decided to actually read it and once I pushed past the first few paragraphs I was hooked & finished it in one sitting.
Bailey & Kellen are the proverbial soul-mates and flippen adorable! I have personal experience with all the heavy issues presented here so I got emotional at times. Alexis & Erwin are disgusting and vile. Brought back so many awful memories. I felt no sympathy for Alexis..& Her punishment was less than she deserved. I would not have done one thing to help that
awful woman...not even for Nigel.
My heart bled for Daniel and a love that not even death could stop.
Read on through hate, self-serving greed, lies and suffocating betrayal and see how courage & faith trumps it all.
Bloody Well Done! 😉👏

Where do I even begin. From start to finish I was hooked. Bailey and Kellen's story started out as innocently romantic and you couldn't help but love them. But as the story progresses there is layer after layer of mystery and intrigue to be uncovered, as family secrets, hidden pasts and murder are uncovered. And through it all Kellen and Bailey are there to support each other. Kellen's love gave gave Bailey the strength and the courage to face the retched woman (not enough evil words to describe her) who was her mother. And Bailey gave Kellen a new way of seeing and enjoying the world around him. They deserved the happiness they found in each other. I could not put it down I was so thrilled with this read. Through the ups and downs it was hard not to feel for these passionate and complex characters.

Family Lies

OMG😮, another great read. I must say this story starts off very slow. Didn't pick up to me until chapter 9😠. However, after that it mover. It was a little long winded ad we say. But I understand why at the end.

So if you read this book don't get upset that it moves very slow in the began.

The H in this story is very lonely for a 30 year old woman. Blame it all on the crazy called her mother and a father who had no back home to stand up to his wife.

The H in the story is a very caring man, who has picked the wrong women in the past. One look at the H and he knew she was going to be his life.

This is a story of family secrets and lies. As glad it worked out for the best. Was upset 😡 that the H father asked her to go easy on the woman who have her life but treated her like trash.

There is a whole lot more going on in this book then I was expecting, lol. Kellen & Bailey have a sometimes dangerous struggle to build their relationship. I admire Kellen for not giving up, that's true love. I felt sorry for Bailey and how she was mistreated as a child and as an adult, that's a hard pill to swallow. David and Alexis need their own book, I say that because this couple already had enough drama without them. Some of the things Bailey did were way over the top and not explained but its deep reading with more drama than romance. Great couple, happy for them being strong enough to deal and fight for love.

The Fixer

Dr Kellen Edwards always there for everyone , he is the one everyone called when they needed help, maybe that’s why he is such a successful Dr, it’s in his nature. But who is going to help fixing him, because he is also hurting and broken… And he met beautiful Bailey who is beyond broken and together they will learn to heal each other…
I love Kellen and Bailey, I read the first release and I don’t recall all the scenes, I think K. Alex did a super job rewriting it.
Man, I can’t believe Alice… I don’t want to leave any spoilers. Boy, I dislike her a*s !

This book was frustrating to me and there were several thoughts to DNF.
The story started slow and then seemed a bit disjointed at different points. I understand the "build to suspense" twists but it just was not working for me. Also, the heroines aggravatingly slow connection of her name to their investigation was almost the final straw. But, at that point I was almost finished.

Whew family dysfunction is real.

I liked this story, but I felt like the mother and cousin didn’t quite get enough punishment for what they did.
