Pete is six months pregnant when he finds himself in the middle of a bank robbery gone bad. He’s sure he’s going to die, but a handsome alpha State Trooper bursts in to save him at the last possible moment. Pete is half in love with Ozzy before the week is out – but what kind of alpha wants a pregnant omega?
Ozzy Morris is a Cold Case detective. He’s also a member of the SWAT team. When SWAT is called out to intervene in a bank robbery turned hostage situation, Ozzy meets the omega of his dreams. He barely cars that his perfect omega is already six months pregnant, and finding out that the gun used in the robbery is tied to a twenty year old cold case just gives him reasons to reach out.
That twenty year old cold case, though, turns out to be the tip of an iceberg made up of organized crime, dirty cops, and families so twisted they can barely be called families at all. Ozzy and Pete love each other, but can that love survive a new baby, their families’ opposition, and criminals who will stop at nothing to keep their operation running?
This is the second book in the Never Too Late series. However, it can be read by itself (stand-alone). This book contains sexually explicit content and not suitable for anyone under the age of 18. This book is approximately 80,000 words, has a happy ending and does not end in a cliffhanger.
*** What a fabulous Mpreg non-shifter story ! *** It has all the feelings we love. We begin in a bank vault during a robbery gone haywire. Pregnant Omega, Pete, is with the hostages. He's a Pulitzer Prize winning Photographer.
Swat team member, Alpha, Ozzy rescues him.
From then on, Ozzy makes up excuses to keep seeing Pete, who is skeptical and afraid to believe. Ozzy is also working on a 20 yr. old Cold Case that involves the gun used in the bank robbery. Their time together steps up and leads to sexy times. Ozzy wants Pete, but moves slowly. Family is involved, there are surprises, mistakes, the investigations, a crime boss and dirty cops.
Our plot flows flawlessly, the characters are engaging, we get great romance and sex, plus we have the opportunity to see our men together. The time passes with the investigation; plus the little girl is born, but Ozzy is procrastinating on claiming Pete, who is his love and Omega, because he wants to solve the case and make sure Pete and the baby are safe.
The complicated case is overwhelming, and Pete is a target. Ozzy is jolted when Pete is kidnapped.
( We do need a proof reader... for misspellings and names switched, but... the story is worth it.)
Loved this exciting tale, the terrific epilogue, and more. Highly recommended. ENJOY ! ==========
This was a tough book to rate for me. I think that I have to divide it into rating the romance part, the mpreg part, and the police/mystery part. Sorry this is so long. Here goes:
The romance: The romance was very sweet. It started with a lot of thinking about each other and moved gently from there. This wasn't one of those books where the couple falls into bed right away or has nasty, sweaty sex when they do get together. I think part of this was probably the pregnancy (thank God because I hate pregnancy sex!), but another piece was just the tender way that the couple explored their relationship. While they were very attracted to each other from the start and felt right with referring to each other as "my alpha" and "my omega" very soon, their entire relationship was always more about the feelings and emotions than the passion. I found that quite endearing. So lots of points for the loving, fairly low angst/drama romance.
The mpreg: For those who want a very realistic, detailed pregnancy experience, this is the story for you. There are a lot 0f exhausted days, back aches, and food restrictions (Pete jokes that he plans to take a taxi straight from the hospital to a sushi restaurant). The birth is a kind of blow by blow of pain, epidurals, embarrassment, and bodily fluids. There is also quite a bit about post-partum challenges too. I feel like poor Aiden must have bought every What To Expect When You're Expecting kind of book and sat there with a notebook and highlighter--or possibly he has his own posse of experienced moms to fill him in on stuff. I think that those that have given birth will find this the piece (a really big piece) of the book really great since it reflects their own moving experience. I've never had kids so I was a little overwhelmed in parts, even though I usually enjoy mpreg very much.
The police/mystery: Sigh. This is where it all fell apart for me. There were so many unbelievable sentiments and occurrences that I felt the credibility was severely strained. What was up with the ramen, how did he even know about the pregnancy? Why in world would you keep that teddy bear?! At one point Pete is passed a note relating to the crime in a restaurant and gives it to Ozzy when they catch up outside. Ozzy reads it then thinks 'well I'm off tonight' and doesn't even go back in the restaurant to try and catch and interrogate the guy. What cop does that? There were several procedural things that didn't ring true to me but perhaps Aiden had done research or sounded things out with an expert and it was all in line with reality. I figured out the mystery ahead of the cops and it wasn't that complicated. I do have to say that I like the idea of the cold case unit for a series and I really loved the characters and banter of the group.
Both Pete and Ozzy are great characters. They really come across as real people with good hearts and loving natures. I like how the author built Pete a solid background as an award winning photographer who was used to danger because of his job. The drama surrounding the families was a little over the top (especially given Pete's good financial situation).
So for me it was a mixed bag, somewhere between an "okay" and a "like" because the cop part pulled it down. The writing is good and the characterization is strong so no problems there. It is completely possible to read this without having read the first in the series (I did as a matter of fact). I think it's worth it for fans to give it a try, especially if you really want an in-depth pregnancy story.
The next Alpha in the Cold Case group to find his Omega is Ozzy. He's a really good guy if an adrenaline junkie and married to his job. When he meets a pregnant Omega and photographer, Pete, in a bank robbery gone bad and saves him they have an instant connection that gets them on a trail of a cold case that leads them to dirty cops and organized crime. Their families are very unhappy and unsupportive of their relationship which increases all the problems that they have to overcome to be together. I most loved their relationship struggles and how they overcame them.
Adrenaline Rush is a great read. I really enjoyed Buried Passion, but this is even better. Pete and Ozzy are a wonderful match. I loved Ozzy for wanting 6 months pregnant Pete. Then he takes on Pete's newborn as his own too. Pete is full of spark and determination and really loves his alpha. This author even manages to make some of the villains likeable and in this book, it works! The plot is also in depth enough to hold my attention from start to finish.
What can I say, I’m a sucker for Omega’s who are strong, but also need rescuing. Loved this journeys loved that they both had to learn how to be a couple, but they picked each other before anyone else. Some parts I did skim because it got a little too heavy in the case details, but would have loved a little more in detail in the smexy. Good boom though.
Aiden Bates was once again able to pen a story that brings to light the fears, prejudices, misgivings, and ugly truths of his main characters and the society they live in. Especially where they work, as this story involves the Alpha detectives of the Cold Case Squad of the Massachusetts State Police. One member is adrenaline junkie Ozzy Morris who isn't content to sit idly by and just peruse old files, also works as a member of SWAT. It is during his capacity as a SWAT member that he meets his resourceful Omega mate.
The fact that Pete Nolan is several months pregnant only makes Ozzy hesitate. It doesn't stop him from pursuing the cute Omega. But it doesn't stop the criticism from his Squad members or Pete's own family. This opposition seems to bind them together even more so. They find solace in one another.
But life never is static and love isn't always enough to overcome the obstinance of an Alpha or a determined criminal. Watching the main characters grow close and apart is initially enjoyable them despairing. The same strength of character that allows an Alpha to make an Omega pregnant with another's child his, can be equally as fixated and purposeful when it comes to protecting his new family.
The author is great at character development. And of throwing in monkey wrenches when the reader believes all things been figured out. He masterfully manipulates your emotions and feelings as he controls how you view his characters. Bates reveals growth & learned lessons by said characters or willful disregard and outright stupidity. Characters you may have despised suddenly become more humane and surprisingly likeable.
The title of this story says it all. There is danger, guns, excitement, hostages, risky behavior, and decision making that could easily lead to death. I really liked Pete, but Ozzy could get on your nerves. Still with just enough angst this mpreg romance is an enjoyable experience.
Okay, here we go: I have never, EVER changed my feelings about a character as thoroughly as I did with Ozzie... twice! *dies laughing*
I loved the building of this story, how the romance is constructed slowly and carefully, I love how realistic the portrait of pregnancy is. And I'm still loving the setting in a Cold Cases Unity.
But... I wanted to cause severe bodily damage to Ozzie after Marisa was born. Really, really badly! But he later won me over again, because he's such an oblivious alpha, more focused on external dangers that on what's going on with his omega...
I love that Peter is such a resourceful and strong character, I love how he thinks ahead and how he is ready to assure his daughter safety, even when he is going on through some really rough times.
So yes, I really, really enjoyed this story, and, as a last thought? I really hope that, when Nancy 's time comes (sorry if I'm misspelling his name, I haven't read it!), he will pay dearly for all his macho bulls**t :P
Ozzy is a Alpha and detective in cold cases but alas o part of the SWAT team that is called to handle a bank robbery. Pete is a pregnant omega with no Alpha that just happens to be in the wrong place in the bank. What I enjoyed most about the book is that Ozzy sees Pete for himself and not as a broken and unwanted omega that made a mistake. They both go through communication problems but at the end come Together to make sure that their family is safe from the bad guys.
I overlooked inconsistent world building and what felt like a complete lack of effort to use any form of existing police procedural practices in the first title. This series belongs in fantasy, not as a genre, but as the belief that a writer can skip research and still convey a well-crafted narrative.
I’m glad I was forced to continue this series as part of a book hunt. I would recommend that anyone who disliked the first book give this one a chance. I still have some same issues that I had with the first book, but in general, they were less glaring. First the positives. The overall “case” was also a lot more interesting than the first book. At points it did get a bit confusing with the time line. In order to show an event from the perspectives of both MC’s the author would often back track in time when switching between each character. The problem was that it wasn’t always obvious for a page or two, and I found that it interrupted the flow of the story. But not enough to dislike the story line. Both MC’s were likeable. They both had personality and character flaws that lead to some big misunderstands and angst, but none of it came across and malicious. For the negatives, it’s some of the same things as the first bool. There needed to be an additional round of editing to catch some of the mistakes. And lastly, I feel that the author could benefit from a better understanding of how law enforcement works. But neither of the negatives took away from my ability to enjoy this story. I’m actually looking forward to continue the series after reading this book.
I like how they discussed real issues in the book with pregnancy, dating, being intimidated by your crush, being the disappointment child. It is not afraid to go into detail about all the problems Pete is going through during pregnancy not only being criticized by his family but also being scared all the time for his daughter. Although I would have liked to have spent more time on the world that’s been created for Pete and Ozzy. Because apart from the cold case mystery, everyone is always yelling at each other for the exact things over and over. Pete’s brother gives him the 3rd degree for being pregnant and then a chapter later Pete’s mom says the EXACT same thing. A bunch of these characters feel repetitive in that way. It was satisfying to see Pete’s Mom finally be accepting and more open to his lifestyle of living out on his own. The ending(no-spoilers) was incredibly rushed. They spent all this time building this Searsant mob boss up and then barely showed him as a character, it would have been nice if they showed what would happen when Ozzie meets this terrifying guy he’s been chasing for so long. All that to say the little moments between Pete and Ozzie are super sweet and the sex scenes are well done
Pete is caught in a dangerous situation when Alpha State Trooper Ozzy comes to his rescue. Ozzy, immediately taken with Pete wants more than to just save the day in this fast paced Mpreg romance, he wants to be the Alpha to Pete’s Omega. Filled with action, adventure, intrigue, mystery, and heat, love might come fast, but it doesn’t come easy for this couple. Between various and sundry criminals, cops, robbers and family members, each with their own agenda, the odds are stacked high and it might take a miracle or three for that happy ending! Adrenaline Rush is beautifully written with smooth flowing dialogue and a interesting, clear concise plot that I had no issues following. This genre was completely new to me but Aiden Bates left me with no unanswered questions. What made this experience even more enjoyable was the narration. I absolutely loved the narration! The voices for the two male leads were so different and so suited to their personalities. The voice for Pete’s mother could not have been more perfect! Just the right amount of snooty! I loved it! I loved everything about this one! Five fantastic stars!
I really enjoyed the cold case of the first book in this series. You usually read about current cases and that is what made the book stand out. That and the MPreg aspect. This book also had both present. It just had a lot more current case that came up because of a cold case.
What I loved the most about this book was Pete and Ozzy. I liked the fact that they stood beside each other even when people didn't think they should. Sure, they had their problems, but I liked them together.
I had fun reading this book and it makes me want interested in what is yet to come. I like that characters from the first book showed up and that cold cases are still a theme. I am crossing my fingers that stays the same.
Ozzy Morris is a cold case detective and also a member of the SWAT team. When participating in a response to a bank robbery turned hostage situation, he meets Pete, a pregnant omega. He cannot help but find himself attracted but his family objects as they get closer. Pete is sure no alpha would want a pregnant omega. Even his family tells him that. As if working with these disadvantages is not enough, the gun used the robbery turns out to be one used to murder a trooper 20 years ago. This give Ozzy the perfect excuse to get closer to Pete.
There is much going on in Adrenaline Rush. There is action, danger, conflict, and of course falling in love. Once started you will not want to stop. This one is very exciting and has more than a few twists.
Enjoyable Story - Decent Narrator Overall 4 out of 5 starsPerformance 4 out of 5 starsStory 4 out of 5 stars Reviewed: 08-06-19
I enjoyed this story though I wish there was a bit more difference in the voice as he narrates from the different POVs. I read while driving to and from work so sometimes it's a weekend before I get back to the book and I would forget who's perspective I was listening to until there was dialogue. This author does a good job of crafting stories that capture your heart and make you wish the best for the characters. The narration was a little choppy in places, but overall it was a good audio book.
A sweet story of a single, pregnant omega, Pete, who meets an alpha state trooper, Ozzy, when he gets stuck in a bank robbery. The attraction between Ozzy and Pete is instant but their journey is full of ups and downs. I really did not like Ozzy's family, their attitude was despicable. At first I didn't like Pete's mother either but she at least redeemed herself. The narrator did an ok job with this one, I just felt that at some points it was too monotone, but overall it was an enjoyable listen. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audiobook.
I'm not finished this book, but I just finished a part that won't change my rating. Aiden Bates is an author good for Alpha/Omega marshmallow fluff. That's why I read it. When you smack me in the face with your view on political policies, you've ruined my reading enjoyment. I'll finish it, because I've paid for it, but you can be damn sure I won't be reading another Aiden Bates book and I'll certainly never recommend one.
It'll be hard for the other books to outdo this one
I love Ozzy and Pete so much. Ozzy is just a complete sweetheart of an alpha and I loved the angle of the dirty cops throughout the book. So far this is one of my favorite Aiden Bates books and I've read over a dozen in less than a month. It will be a reread for sure. After this one, I want to read about the other Cold Case detectives, but I don't think they could possibly get better than these boys!
Don't get me wrong I loved the story but the author couldn't remember Pete Nolan's last name twice in this book. He used Pete Lucas, then called him Pete Norris. Then a couple of times, he was talking about Pete but called him his mate's name Ozzy. But other than that loves it. I have read all of them but Tessaro's story but he has two different books with this character name and I wonder if it is the same character or if he reused the name?
Sometimes the second book gets a bit loose in a series but this one was equally lovely as the first one. Ozzy was charming, patient and a bit obtuse at times. And Pete was lovely. What I truly enjoyed about this book was the fact that while the baby was not Ozzy's, the real father wasn't a problem. I loved that fact the author keep it without too much drama because the action itself was good enough. And I loved Pete and Ozzy, oh boy were they cute!
Adrenaline Rush is the second book in the Never Too Late series by Aiden Bates. I loved the story - Ozzy and Pete are fun characters. I especially like a strong, protective Alpha who isnt afraid to be in a relationship with an omega who is carrying another man's baby. And I like how it told their story. There suspense and danger in the story but also sweet and sexy tomance.
I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
This one was just okay for me. The story had a fun premise—Pete gets caught up in a bank robbery and is rescued by Ozzy, a cop. There’s definite potential and some really cute moments between the two, but the execution was a bit rough. I noticed quite a few spelling errors and even some mix-ups with character names, which pulled me out of the story. That said, the overall idea was enjoyable, and the chemistry between Pete and Ozzy was sweet. Just needed a bit more polish.
It should be 5 stars, except it got demerits for dismal edditing. Ozzy's name was used when it should have been Pete's. The proofing got worse the more I read and the last chapter was downright distracting. That said, I like this author's stories and the dialogue is smart and realistic.
While there were a lot of word repetition problems and strange dialogue tags, I loved the main character, Pete, and the slow burn pacing worked. The narrator of the audiobook was great. Overall, an enjoyable read.
I liked the book but sometimes I felt like I was in the 50s. Just because Pete is pregnant with another man's baby is instantly damaged goods, it pissed me off. And Ozzy when he desregarded how Pete felt, very idiotic behaviour. I just want to read Oliver and Nenci's book
