Lesson Plans is a spin-off of the series By Design and would fall somewhere between books 2 and 3 of that series.
Life in the Fletcher-Reid family is always interesting. For Michelle Fletcher, it's about to take an unexpected turn when a feisty redheaded architect named Melanie McKenna captures her heart. Love is the last thing that Michelle was looking for.
Falling in love for the witty architect presents a few challenges. As far as Michelle knows, Melanie is straight. Worse still, Melanie woks for Michelle's soon-to-be step-mother, Jameson Reid. Still reeling from deception and heartbreak, Michelle is reluctant to follow her heart.
Melanie's private demons make her reluctant to jeopardize the closest relationship she has, her friendship with Michelle. Loss in Melanie's past, a family that has made her feel like an outsider, and a current project at work that is testing both her patience and her confidence, all conspire to weave doubt in the young woman's mind.
Luckily for Michelle and Melanie, they are surrounded by wise and witty teachers who will help them master the one lesson plan they both struggle with—love.
I know I am in the minority but I really didn't enjoy this book. It's well written and all but I kept thinking what is the point? I didn't feel any chemistry between Michelle & Melanie. But you know what really annoyed me? The countless jokes and references to what the characters called Bible study or finding God when referring to sex and/or over hearing relatives enthusiastic exclamations during sex. In Michelle's case that would be overhearing her Mom & Jameson. I thought it was funny the first few times but it got old to becoming annoying after the 20th time. (I was going to say I didn't count, but I just went back and found "Bible" 18 times - so I underestimated - I didn't bother counting finding God). I wonder if Armstrong regretted naming these two characters with somewhat similar names? Oh, well I wanted to like this story but it just didn't happen for me.
This is everything I've come to expect from J.A. Armstrong. It seemed a little bumpy at the start, maybe that was just me being restless. But then it settled-down into a nice little toaster-oven romance. Much of the story interweaves with the By Design series (#2 and #3).
Yeah that's right I admit it. Lesbian stories are soft sensual they build you up for that special moment. Unlike Sissy or Threesomes or when a man is involved no Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am here. The banter between the characters in this book is delightful. The issues that the ladies are dealing with are very realistic. It's nice to be able to see people in love no matter what their gender maybe be
I love the By Design series by the author and have read each of now 15 novels. I thought this was a beginning of a different series as it is listed as (Lesson Plans #1). I was instantly happy when I realized this is tied to the By Design series and should be read between books 2 & 3. Candace daughter Michelle Fletcher is best friends with Melanie McKenna an architect who works for Jameson Reid. (Candace and J.D are MCs in the Design series.) Both Shell and Mel know they have developed strong feelings for each other but don’t want to do anything that will ruin their friendship. In Armstrong style both seek counsel from family members they trust. I like that this gives a little more background story to two characters who kind of fall together quickly in the Design series. I would have liked to have read this in order with the other series but it was a nice surprise to find more from earlier days of the Fletcher Reid family. I don't think I would rate this as high if I read it as a stand alone and didn't already have understanding and connection to the characters.
This is a very well written spin-off tale of the "By Design" series. This is the first installment in the story of Michelle (Shell) and Melanie. Shell is Candace's daughter and Jameson's step-daughter. Melanie is a top notch architect at Jameson's firm. The young women are good friends who end up falling in love with each other, but both are far to scared to tell the other for fear of destroying their friendship. With words of wisdom from the older women, they finally admit their feelings to each other. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more about their relationship from their perspective, even knowing what the future has in store for them based on their presence in the "By Design" series. If this new series is half as good as "By Design", you have to put it on your must-read list.
4 stars. Michelle is my favorite side character in the ‘By Design’ series and that’s saying a lot because all of the side characters are wonderful. There’s just something about her though so I was so excited to get a book focused on her. This takes place between the second and third book in the series and we watch the beginning of Michelle and Melanie’s romance and it was so cute. So much longing between them. This was great and I wish I could get book two because I want another book following Michelle and Melanie. I adore them so much.
Great start to new series with characters I already love.
The author has done it again. She is masterful with characters and painting a scene in my head. These are characters from her series with Candace and Jamison that deserve their own series. Michelle and Melanie are wonderful characters in their own right and this series is following them from the beginning of their discovery of love with one another. Can't wait for more!
In all honesty this is the first book by J.A. Armstrong I picked up. It drew me in as a teacher but when I realized it was a spin off of the By Design series I put it aside and started that one. I read this one at the time it seemed to fit into the other series. I love the characters and how their relationship develops. Michelle and Melanie's relationship evolving from just friends to more just flowed. As with all of Armstrong's characters they all have flaws but that makes them real.
Lesson Plan was an extremely enjoyable read. It was a suggested read on my Amazon account, so I read the blurb and thought why not, lets give it a whirl - and I wasn't disappointed.
J.A. Armstrong has become one of my favorite lesfic writers. I am really happy to see that she's writing a spin off of her By Design series. It's really nice see the back story of two characters I've already come to know from By Design.
I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in each series now.
Reading this story, full of old friends, is kind of like comfort food in prose form. While knowing where the story is heading is a bit of a drawback, seeing things from the perspectives of Michelle and Melanie, as well as seeing aspects of their relationship not shown in the original series, makes the story come across as fresher than I anticipated.
Michelle and Melanie became friends and they hung out and did things together. Things started changing between them but neither one really would say anything. When they finally do they are really in love with each other. Melanie never been with a woman knows Shell is it and having Bible study at home is now turned into lesson plans for them
2.75 Not the best one on this series/universe. The built up between these two doesn´t really happen because there isn´t a lot 1on1, if you read this as a stand alone and haven´t read the main series its a little rushed and doesn´t have much substance.
Really enjoyed catching up with Shell & Mel. I liked filing in the blanks left over from the main story. Also LOVE seeing more of Jameson & Candace’s early years. Excellent installment.
This book is refreshing because it’s gives inside info on my second favorite couple, Melanie and Michelle. It also shows a different perspective of Candace and Jameson’s relationship. Awesome book!
Like all of Armstrong's books I love them. Unfortunately, I read this book after I had already read of the books in the By Design (to date 5/2018), and wish I had known that this one fit in about the middle of the series. But with this said, I still recommend it because it provides reading into the meeting and development of the relationship between Michelle and Melany. I give this book a thumbs up.
It was a little confusing in the beginning with being introduced to all of the characters at once. While it is a rather short story, I feel as though there could've been more character development.
I really like the other series that Armstrong writes and was excited to see one of my favorites from a different view. But I'm not sure I'd read the second book for this one if it comes out. Well....I probably would because I really like the author's work. But, i felt this was just a rework of the story we already knew. I wanted to see a deeper side of the lead characters of this book, but feel like we were still focused on Jameson. However, I still love this author and will probably read anything she puts out and at least enjoy it. :)
J. A. Armstrong never fails. Her books make me laugh so much. If you have read the ' By Design ' series you'll have already met the characters, but it's not essential that you do as the author tells you enough to give you the story. I love the way Armstrong writes. She has a great sense of humour and yet still delivers sensitive issues with compassion and understanding. Excellent author, excellent book and so looking forward to the next instalment. Read you won't be disappointed.
I was very happy to find a new release from Armstrong. I'm a fan of all her series and this one didn't disappoint. My only bit of constructive criticism would be to have one last edit before release. Although there are less mistakes than I've seen from a lot of Amazon authors, it is common to see misspellings in her stories. In particular, in this story Colleen was Collen half the time, and in past books Cooper was often Copper. I'm eager to read anything this author releases, but a couple of hours for a final read-through would produce a more polished product.
This is a good romance minus any unnecessary drama. The humor in this story had me giggling out loud. I enjoyed a break from the typical tropes the genre gets bogged down by. Sometimes when reading this genre, it feels like characters are managing to find time for romance in between bouts of pure calamity. I offer thanks to the author for providing some light-hearted respite.
Sweet , spicy and romantic....The relationship between Shell and Mel is very special...They are best friends who love and worship each other....When at last they found the courage to confess their feelings and give it a try but slowly... Slow is magical .. Feels like paradise....And their love maker is so delicate and passionate.....Well written and descriptive..I definitely recommend it...You'll enjoy it..Like I did
DNF It seriously pains me to say it but I just could not get into this at all. These characters try so hard to be funny and witty. The banter felt very forced. Almost like it was trying to be fast and funny when in reality it just felt clunky and annoying. Why is it so hard to find a good lesbian romance???
A dynamic story with a lot of hilarious moments, with awesome characters, a superb writing and absolutely addicting. I was very excited when I started reading this long-awaited book and it certainly lived up to my expectations. I know you'll enjoy this story as much as I did. J.A. Armstrong never never disappointed me and I can't wait for her next masterpiece.
I love this story and the interaction between the characters. I love that Michelle and Melanie started as friends and then something wonderful blossomed between them. I also love the that you can feel and sense the love in this story. It is wonderfully written and I can't wait for the next story.
I am so happy that J. A. Armstrong is telling the story of Michelle and Melanie. I loved Michelle in the Designer series and she is just as much fun in her own series.
