IT STARTED OUT AS A 3-DAY STAY IN DUBLIN--NOW THERE’S A PRICE ON HIS HEAD. It’s U.S. Marshal Jack Dillon is temporarily on loan to the Garda Síochána Special Detective Unit, helping to smoke out the Russian crime boss responsible for the murders of two of their own in a shoot-out at the airport. Jack was wounded in the gun battle, but he did bring down down three mobsters. He’s definitely on the mend now, as his sexy nurse Lin will attest – with a big smile. In this action-packed sequel to Welcome, the first humorous Dublin Tale by Patrick Emmett, (Dev Haskell author Mike Faricy’s Irish alter ego), one of the mob families has sworn revenge. And so, with a price on Jack’s head, the Garda uses him to bait a trap for the bad guys. Emmett’s (Faricy’s) funny charm shows up in the good-natured joshing among Jack and the new Irish friends who’re protecting him. With round-the-clock security and a dog for protection – how could he screw this up, right? He will – with style and humor. like his American cousin Dev, Jack has a tendency to take his eye off the bad guy to admire a beautiful lady. And under certain circumstances, a whole roomful of Russian mobsters might be less dangerous to him than one pretty face and figure. WHO WILL LIKE Fans of Dev Haskell and rascals like him. Also for fans of Robert B. Parker, Elmore Leonard, Carl Hiaasen, Lee Child, strong Minnesota men – especially when transplanted to Ireland, and drinkers of Guinness "everywhere." Faricy is the next Carl Hiaasen. - Crime Scene Mike Faricy is the author of the bestselling Dev Haskell series as well as the bestselling Corridor Man series which is written under the pseudonym Nick James. He is the winner of the 2016 International Crime Masters Silver Award.
Recovering form being shot in the first novel, Jack wakes up in the hospital to find that he has a bounty on his head from the Russian Mafiya, he is on loan to the Irish police, and he's famous, and even more attractive to women.
After having an affair with his Asian nurse, he finds himself in an apartment vacated by a woman of the night. He gives all her clothes to a couple of her colleagues, then has an affair with one of them. He gets a dog, and someone tries to kill him.
So he gets moved out into the country, on a deserted house, where he makes himself visible, and someone else tries to kill him.
Dillon is a good shot, but even better at BS-ing his way out of trouble.
After being shot, Dillion is put on indefinite load to the Ireland's police force. After setting him up in a very small apartment with women's clothes included in the closet. McCabe and OMalley leaves a pile of files for him to read and instructions to keep a low profile. Dillion noticed a pattern with all the files - Russin mob, either strongly suspected or individuals arrested all tied to the Russians. Jack finds out the apartment he is in was a girl's named Sinead. She left rather quickly not taking any of her things with her. Her friends Abbey and Gemma take all the clothes, and shoes....so, so many shoes with them. Jack takes them out for dinner and ends up with his picture on the front page of the paper. NOT what the police force wanted. They wanted the Russians to think he had gone back to the United States. After all he killed some of their people. Now they will be after him. Much to Jack's surprise things tend to get out of hand. How will Jack survive? Will the mob find him? Oh the sister of one of the people he shot is after him too, only he doesn't know it. Read the book to find out how things get going and how they end up. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Jack Dillon is still in Ireland and no place is safe. Wherever the Special Detective Unit puts him, the mob comes after him. Seems they take offense to him putting a huge dent in their profits and whacking their people. And the sister of one of the guys he killed, isn't too pleased with it either. Number 2 in a highly humorous and entertaining tale!
It doesn't matter what name the author wants to go by, he has found the formula for a great read. Jack Dillon is a cheeky American in Dublin, I wonder where the idea came from... Only negative, it's just not long enough.
Second book by Mike Faricy's alter ego! Love it! The characters are well developed and Jack Dillion has become a favorite hero to me. Right up there with Dev Haskell. Mike Faricy is one of my very favorite authors and now his alter ego will be a favorite too!
What started out as a quick trip to Dublin, Ireland, turns into a real job with the Irish Garda for U.S. Marshal Jack Dillon. He’s got a price on his head for killing three members of a Russian mob, an ill-tempered foster dog, and more than a few unhappy women out to get him. The Garda use Jack as bait for the bad guys and action and hilarity ensue.
This is turning into a really fun series. Dillon gets himself into tight spots – with his bosses, his co-workers, random women, criminals, you name it – and watching him get himself out is always enjoyable. I enjoy the writing, plots, pacing, and dialogue of these books. I like watching Dillon fit in with his new co-workers, and learn how to live in a new land. Dillon is a charming character, and the stories hold my interest all the way through.
If you like detective fiction from Robert B. Parker, Elmore Leonard, Carl Hiaasen, Lee Child, or John D. MacDonald, you’ll probably like the Jack Dillon books too. If you’re looking for a light, funny, entertaining read, you’ll also like Jack Dillon.
Faricy also writes the Dev Haskell series, the Corridor Man series, and the Hotshot series. I haven’t made it to the Corridor Man series (yet), but I can vouch for the Haskell and Hotshot series. Both are worth a read.
Dillon is now stationed in Ireland they take him to his new home, he imagines a penthouse or a country estate, no such luck it’s a 3rd floor apartment in a 5 story building. The tallest build in Dublin is only 17 stories. People recognized him as the airport hero and want picture with him. He ends up with a picture on the front page of the newspaper. He inherits a little dog named Lucifer from the woman who had the apartment for him The Russians find him he’s saved by Lucifer but now they have to move him again. A great story and wonderful addition of character you meet in the book.
I'm enjoying Jack Dillon's adventures as much as I did those of Dev Haskell ... lots of fast-paced lightweight fun reading.
But - at the end of chapter 24 when the Dublin barman uses a "16 ounce glass" to pour a pint of Guinness, I was jarred (!) ... only in the US is a pint 16 ounces, the civilised world has a 20 ounce pint. Either a glaring error or the barman has a few "special" glasses to rip off American tourists.
"Everything is bigger in the States ... except a pint!"
I was behind in my reading this series but I'm sure to catch up now. Jack is a great character and I loved how his new boss worked with him to assimilate into the dept right away. The action was good, Jack got the bad guy who turned out to be a "lady" but not until she'd done some karate on him. I think ill be doing right into the next book. Loved the little Lucifer too.
Jack Dillon an American who was in Dublin to pick up a prisoner earlier that involved a shootout is now having to hide out. The first place the police put him belonged to a lady of the night and her dog Lucifer. Jack and Lucifer then are moved to a farm house as there is a bounty on his head. This well worth reading.
Somehow I got a late start on the Jack Dillon series. In fact, I just read book 20! I became curious about the start of Jack's journey and decided to go to Book 1. Then I had to read Book Book 2. Now have to read 3. Damn, hope my budget can afford it (smile). Love all of Mike's books.
A good read for people who are in to the series recommend highly can't wait for the next one of the series a really enjoyable read but quick shaping up to be a enjoyable series must read the next one of the series
Jack has dreams of living it up while recuperating from a gun wound. Instead he has a price on his head, the mob doesn’t like him, for he cut into their profit. They are now using him as bait, to catch more of the mob. It is Irish humor and makes a good story to read.
Looking for a good book located in Ireland? Well this is it! All the adventure, suspense, and twists and turns you can imagine. Now to read the next in series!
The author blends mystery, action and humor in this second book of the Jack Dillon adventures. This time, Jack is dealing with Russian crime bosses. The man also has an eye out for pretty women, when he isn't wrapped in trouble.
I enjoyed this book, I read the first book in this series and liked it so much that I continued on two book two ,the Jack Dillon Dublin tales kept me very interested, didn't want to put it down.
The author has a way with his stories that makes content some humor and things that you could relate to keeps the readers interest all the way through and you don't want to stop until you finish great job done.
I am enjoying this book and the series. The characters are realistic and well thought out. If you love mystery and mayhem with a side of humor this book and author are for you.
The hero is trying to hard to live up to his nickname. What happened to his nurse. Nothing was resolved in this story, series leave threads dang but resolve or answer important questions, this one danger didn't
