I've never read such a truthful autobiography as this one. Joey Barton is as his writting. There is few people who have the courage to open their heart and explain their point of view on their approach to life or of life (like Joey and his "survival" instinct). Very well written and also structured. A lot of life lessons and, as an extra, a lot of Football mind openers.
Joey Barton, the self-proclaimed genius, philosopher, the adviser set to write a self-help book for Joey Barton himself and people go nuts! This book illustrates a level of egocentric behavior and lacking understanding social relationships in a healthy way: is the Joey Barton way, or the highway.
The language is rather flat and time consuming. The stories was too shallow to actually understand his tendency for violence and anger. Sure, the cultural heritage tells us a lot, but that's not enough. Not a very interesting read; at least something happen while kicking and punching opponents on the pitch. A great footballer, but a waste on ink and paper. Another red card for Barton (said with a French accent interview-moment)!
Up there with the very best of autobiographies. Joey Barton's intellect and articulation shines through as he expresses his life and career in a no holds barred, and as the title suggests, no nonsense account.
As interesting a character as you'll ever see on a football pitch, and there's plenty of mouthwatering chapters - prison, street brutality, warring with team mates - plenty to get your teeth into. There's a lot of personal reflection and soul searching as Joey pores over good and bad times.
