Real rating: 3.5 stars
13:17 is definitely an interesting read from start to finish. We meet Mia as she's going through a very traumatic experience, and things only get worse for her by the time it's "over". There aren't a lot of characters in the novel, which I appreciate as it feels extremely short, more like a novella than a full novel. I liked Mia, though she made a few stupid decisions I didn't like. I despised her best friend, but won't spoil anything. Her parents are the most lovely people, and I loved Andrews and Cass, though we didn't get to see much of them because of the short length.
I really enjoyed the plot line most of all. Though it didn't have any real twists or turns, it kept be interested and kept me reading.
Writing wise, with a better editor I think this would have been a 4-4.5 star read. Some of the dialogue felt unnatural and over explained, though the writing itself was decent, it could have been better, and more show instead of tell.
Bought the sequel last night as soon as I finished it! Looking forward to continuing the story!
