Jess is still traveling through the state of Colorado heading back to his home territory of Texas when he finds himself in the town of Wilshire, Colorado, on the hunt for a killer by the name of Bernard Blackstone. He finds him and puts him down, but he has to take the corpse to the next town to turn it in for the bounty.
Things take a strange turn when two desperate bounty hunters steal Blackstone’s body at night and take it to Fannin, Colorado, to put in a claim for the bounty, but Jess arrives before they can collect it. The two bounty hunters, down on their luck, inform Jess they know where two brutal killers with a high bounty on their heads are holed up, but they won’t tell him their whereabouts unless he agrees to let them go with him on the hunt.
Jess finally agrees and the three of them leave Fannin to hunt for the killers when Shadow suddenly shows up. The trip gets interesting along the way and eventually, Jess meets a wanted gunslinger and gambler who needs to clear his name. Jess leaves the two bounty hunters behind and rides with this man on the hunt for the brothers who can clear his name.
Along the way, they discover that they have something in common. They both have a lot of men who want to see them dead and under a dirt blanket, but neither is ready to meet their maker yet, especially Jess.
Librarian's note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.
In 1990 Robert J. Thomas was sworn in as the full time mayor for the city of Westland, Michigan. He served twelve years, making him the longest serving mayor in Westland's history.
While he was mayor he wrote his first book titled, How to Run for Local Office, which has now sold over 25,000 copies worldwide.
He has written and published on Kindle, the Jess Williams Westerns series. Retired, he now lives in Mississippi with his wfe Jill.
Another I gotcha adventure of Jess Williams and Shadow, his wolf pal who seems to show up when unknowingly Jess will need his help and protection. This is a good western reading. Very few if any curse words..love the names of these western thugs..They are funny and they truly fit the characters. Can't forget the towns names, which are just practical and descriptive of the areas that those onward travelers followed..
Since all of the Jess Williams Westerns are well written, I know that it will be hard to stop reading, once started. I have read 57 and just started 58. This author knows how to write interesting, fast moving novels that are believable. I highly recommend this author.
I enjoy all of the Jess Williams stories. I really found this one to be exceptional because he was working to save a life. He didn't kill the bad guys in this one and it wasn't even Christmas! Only those of us that keep up with this series will know what that means.
I love the way Thomas has given Jess a new partner Shadow a wolf. Shadow has his special character and is a lot like Jess. Jess goes out of his way to help a wanted man.
I always enjoy reading the Jess Williams series and to start off the New Year, my favorite series is this one. I can hardly wait for Jess Williams 58 to be published so that I may read it also. I enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to everyone.
I really love these books on Jess Williams. He always gets his man. But he helps others when they need help. I look forward to reading more of these books.
As always, Thomas does a great job with the Jess Williams series. Fast moving and well done. I've read all 57 of the series, and they just keep getting better.
