My name is Catherine McGuire, but my best friend and sometimes lover calls me Kitty Cat. It's a name I've carried since shortly after we met in middle school. I hated it at first, but it grew on me, much like Allie grew on me. I'm a private investigator. I've investigated some weird things over the years, so having the target of my investigation tell me she was a witch? Well, in my line of business, I've heard it all. But maybe trying to steal from her wasn't such a great idea. This is a lesbian urban fantasy novel of 100,000 words.
A writer by avocation, Robin has a renaissance interest in many areas. A bit of a gypsy, Robin has called a few places home and has traveled widely. A love of the outdoors, animals in general and experimenting with world cuisines, Robin and partner share their home with a menagerie of pets and guests, although sometimes it is difficult to discern who is whom.
The worst of so many bad novels about lesbians and extremely offensive.
All the usual elements of a Joseph P. Larson publication are all rolled out on display. Lesbian characters, supernatural beings and power imbalances abound. Kidnapping, betrayal, torture and fractured psyche are all in the mix. Extreme abuse and total domination are followed with claims of love and possession. Resistance brings pain, rape and death threats and abandonment. That's entertainment! The story doesn't matter, the characters are rehashed and the writing is ugly. What kind of individual keeps cranking out lesbian torture porn? Obscene doesn't cover the content of Kitty Cat.
If it isn't obvious already, I hate this book and all of the others just like it. Not every "Robin Roseau" book is this extreme. There is a calculated spectrum, but the same issues are replayed obsessively. Betrayal, kidnapping, abuse, dehumanization, power inequality and torture turn up like bad pennies in a reoccurring fashion. First person narration from the victim's POV makes things even more claustrophobic. Normally, I support a writer's choice to tell the story that speaks to them. Content shouldn't overshadow a book review, but in this particular case I wonder when is it right to ask - Have you no decency, sir?
This is not a love story, no romance, not spicy sex but it's funny and adventurous and you never expect what's coming next. Catherine and Allison had been friends since childhood, co workers and lovers, Nyla is a powerful CEO, executive of a big company, their paths crossed one day, fate or destiny.....buckle up and prepare for the ride of your lives...An unexpected series of events that'll blow your mind....... I'll definitely recommend this book, amazing...well written and clever....I enjoyed it since the first page......
First off, I apologize for the vague wording, as I don't like writing reviews with spoilers. I had no idea what to expect, going into this book, so I was rather surprised when things started to happen. I thought that it would lead to the book being dull or repetitive, but I actually really enjoyed it far more than I was expecting. After all, the book starts off as kind of slow and realistic and when the Urban Fantasy kicks in, it kicks in pretty hard.
The book, in my opinion, would be rated PG-13. There are hints to adult topics, but the main character, acting as narrator, will simply say she will not go into details because they are private.
I snagged this book from Kindle Unlimited. It is very much worth reading.
I actually loved this book. I enjoyed reading about the “cat” life. And boy was the cat winning, big time. The battles were grand! And the storyline had lots of humor in it. I thought I’d get bored after a while, but didn’t. I had wondered about friends and family.
After getting to know Nyla, the more I liked her. She did some things that made me question her. But since I had read the book “Familiar” it allowed me to understand the nature of a witch more completely. And I understood Nyla. I saw what others may not have seen. It made sense why Nyla was alone and also lonely.
Witches take what they need when it comes to other beings. And if they have to, by force and not permission. Nyla was already intrigued and had feelings for Catherine in my opinion when first meeting. And it appears Catherine did too.
The ending is not how I imagined it. It didn’t tie up or explain some loose ends. That bothered me. It also should have been more definitive. The ending left me wanting…
