A dark night. An even darker mission. Mr Rikkard Ambrose is stalking the wintry alleys of London, doing something he has never done before...

But does he do it for himself - or is it a sacrifice for someone special?

This tale tells the story of an extraordinary moment in the relationship of Lilly Linton and Rikkard Ambrose. And, for the first time on Wattpad, it gives insight into MR AMBROSE'S POINT OF VIEW! Continue on if you'd like a peek into that stony head of his, and maybe, maybe even his heart.

About the author

Robert Thier

Robert Thier is a German historian, lover of old books and award-winning writer, whose novels and stories encompass the historical, satirical, and fantastical. For the way he manages to make the past come alive, as if he himself lived as a medieval knight, his inventive fans have given him the nickname “Sir Rob.” All of his stories are characterized by his very own brand of humor that has gained him a diverse readership ranging from teenagers to retired grandmothers.

For Robert, becoming a writer followed naturally from his interest in history. “In Germany,” he says, “we use the same word for story and history. And I've always loved the one as much as the other. Becoming a storyteller, a writer, is what I've always wanted.”

Besides writing and researching in dusty old archives, on the lookout for a mystery to put into his next story, Robert enjoys classical music and long walks in the country. The helmet you see in the picture he does not wear because he is a cycling enthusiast, but to protect his literary skull in which a bone has been missing from birth. Robert lives in the south of Germany in a small village between the three Emperor Mountains.

This meme has no relevance to this particular short story but it does describe the whole series in general and because I can't stop laughing, I just had to share this with you people:

I know Mr. Ambrose is initially hard to swallow but when you get used to him and see past his diamond facade, there is such a worthy man there.
I absolutely love him. Completely.

I feel like someone needs to let Ambrose know that he’s potentially one of the cutest human beings ever.

Cute. Sweet. Adorable. But overall it didn't feel right. I felt like Lilly wasn't herself and neither was Ambrose. It felt forced and that's why I'm sadly giving this a 3 starred rating.

I read this years ago and its only two chapters if I'm not mistaken. I haven't read it in a while but it was a short scene between Lilly and Mr. Ambrose during Christmas and I enjoyed getting this small clip of them where they put work aside and all the tensions of everyday life to just enjoy a moment between them two.

Of course, you'd have to read the first book of the Storm and Silence Series to be able to understand this in the first place. But just so you get the gist, Lilly is a feminist in the mid 1830s, trying to work and prove herself in a world that keeps her tied down. Mr. Ambrose is the richest man in all of the British Empire (altho he would correct me and say, in all of the world). So he doesn't agree with her working but gives her a try just so he could prove himself right that women should not work and be a stay at home. She proves him wrong when she continues to persevere and that's what sparks the adventure/action with a tiny pinch of romance because these two are far two stubborn.

This scene is after she's been working for him for a while and they've been fighting the small thoughts that have come into their minds. So I appreciated getting this when I was dying to have more acceptance between them. I'm not entirely sure if it connects to the next book or not, but it's definitely worth a read.

Do not read this without reading the rest of the series, because I think it depends a lot on already liking the characters. It is really just a short story. But I read it and it's on Goodreads, so it counts as a book.

It's really just a holiday themed short story, as in two chapters long. I have no idea where it could possibly fit in in the rest of the series. It would have to be after the drunk piggies, but beyond that I don't know

The thing about this serie of books, that keeps me attracted to it, always longing to read more, wrap myself in the skilfully written story and dwell in it. It’s so beautiful, entertaining and full of mystery.

Even though this book contained only two chapters, it was worth read try. Getting to see Mr. Ambrose’s point of view for the first time was new and refreshing. I just love this book, the amazing and unique characters.

Riveting and unique in its sass and pzazz, the book, like all its prequels is a marvel for the reader. Mysterious, fast-paced, keeping you on the edge of your seat, and yes subtly romantic. The humor and wit with which these stories are written are uncanny. More than anything else, the amazing way each chapter ends on a cliff hanger is dope!
