The second book in The Undermountain Saga was just as captivating as the first. Afterlife continues the story of all of our favorite characters from Undermountain, beginning about six months after the first book, as well as the return of our favorite bigfeet. The story begins with a bang and continues with fast-paced adventure throughout.

I can't give enough praise to the author's descriptive writing style. He really knows how to manipulate words to bring the story to life and bring emotion and personality to the story. The characters are fun and unique. Even the villains in the story are so alive that you want to read more about them.

I absolutely love the world these books are set in. The creativeness and complexity of the society is so much fun to read about, and the myths and legends are blended in nicely. I am very much looking forward to the next book in Undermountain series to see where the characters are taken.

The author was kind enough to gift me a copy of his book. Get your copy here.

What I really about this series so far is that these are intelligent YA books that don’t treat the reader like kids.

Another of my favorite things is that the protagonists don’t seem to be perfect – Danny is seen to struggle with doubts concerning his girlfriend and realizes that if he cheats on her, he will be responsible for the consequences.

Breyona,on the other hand, is learning that good intentions aren’t enough to make wise decisions when it comes to power.

Shiv realizes that while acquisition of knowledge is a good thing, the path chosen to acquire it is very important.

The books are about teenagers who must find their own path while dealing with issues much bigger than them.

However, this book won’t be as effective, if read without reading the first one.

Book exchange for review~Per se Goodreads rules

This the second book has truly shocked, amazed, and left me speechless in so many ways that it's hard to describe. I think the only way to experience this is to read this book. Yes this ia sequel to Undermountain yet it also proves itself as a stand alone book too. I don't say that very often about books in a series yet it's very true for this book. Here are my thoughts about this book.

Emma and Danny Michaelson are planning a trip to their grandmother's house in Indianapolis. Yet their plans hit a snag in the form of one person named Bronson. Neither Em or Danny trust Bronson but have no choice in taking him with them. Wa and Breyona are also going to be at Em and Danny's Grandmother's house. Wa is still a troublemaker as always. Breyona works with kids and teenagers in crisis which keeps her busy yet she still tries to be with Danny. Danny has been noticing a truck driving past his house alot in the last six weeks yet can't figure out what it's doing and doesn't want to worry anyone else with it. Danny and Wa are kidnapped leaving Grandma Michaelson, Em, Bronson, and Breyona alone in the house. Luckily for them that Grandma has the house wired with security showing them exactly what happened and reveals a stunning piece of information~that GorVit is behind the kidnapping. Em and Breyona know that the police can't help them find Danny and Wa. The must return to Undermountain. They make contact with Grizz and that they need to track GorVit down. Grizz helps Em and Breyona along with a reluctant Bronson along too. Breyona fears her meeting Shaggy again yet can do nothing about it. Breyona knows that Shaggy is up to something but can't put her finger on it. What does GorVit want with Danny and Wa? How can Em, Breyona, and Grizz find Danny and Wa? What is Shaggy's plan? Will either Danny or Breyona admit their feelings? Your answers await you in Afterlife.

Afterlife is an action packed fantasy that you will not want to put down. It is full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing.

Danny, Em, Wa, and Breyona are still dealing with the notoriety of their rescue from the Canadian Rockies. They plan to rendezvous at Danny and Em's grandma's house, but things go very wrong when they are attacked. Danny and Wa are kidnapped by minions of GorVit to help retrieve a weapon that could bring about the destruction of not only the bigfeet but also the human race. Will Danny be able to stop GorVit and protect the ones he loves?

Through the author's creative descriptions, we are drawn into another world full of interesting creatures and ideas that will capture your imagination. I would highly recommend it and will be looking forward to what happens next in this adventure.

Danny came home from school and noticed a van that he thought he had seen before. Ever since they had come back from being rescued in the Canadian Rockies, it seemed like the press followed them everywhere. With Danny’s implant, it was easy for him to store each license plate and make and model of the cars in his computer memory.

He was excited about going to his Grandma’s in Indianapolis tomorrow because the group-Danny, Em Wa and Breyona were all going to meet there. Bronson invited himself and Danny knew he had some ulterior motive, because no one liked him and there was no reason for him to want to come along. They all arrived at his Grandmas, except Breyona, who had called and told him she had an emergency so she would be late.

When there was a knock on the door, Danny rushed to answer thinking it would be Breyona, but two men burst in wearing gas masks and spraying a canister at Danny. They fought but were overcome. Bronson had run out of the house but came back just in time to stop them from taking Em or Grandma and told them to take Wa instead. When Breyona finally got to the house, she found Danny and Wa had been kidnapped.

They tried to tell the police about the Bigfoot and GorVit, but they wouldn’t listen. thinking they were still drugged from the gas. Then Breyona thought of sending a message on Twitter. She knew the Bigfoot monitored the humans so they would know what was going on above ground. It worked. Grizz talked to them on video chat and told them to come to Undermountain, that GorVit had escaped.

GorVit told Danny that he had fifteen minutes to solve the puzzle of the Spheroid. He believed it to be a weapon, but when Danny figured out the puzzle he knew it was a teleportation device. He pretended it was ticking to keep GorVit away. A projection appeared, Danny and Wa ran and jumped into it, landing in a strange jungle unlike anything they had seen before. GorVit and his gunners were right behind them. Danny and Wa ran until they reached a drop-off. They could hear GorVit and the gunners coming and had no choice but to go over the cliff.

Disclaimer: I received this book in return for an honest and unbiased review.

As in the case of the first book, I just cannot find the words to describe the book. The cover and title were a continuation of the first book and I always like it when they relate to the story. I got lost in the characters and action, devouring the words to find out what would happen next. The ending will catch you off guard. I think I sat with my mouth open for a couple of minutes at a loss for words. I kept thinking – what? No way. What? But do not look ahead. It is well worth the wait to get there word by word. It still amazes me how the author comes up with the characters and their environment. I am eagerly awaiting the third book.

So, back in February I read a rather unique bigfoot sci fi novel that I thought was really great. That novel was Undermountain. And now.. there's a sequel, Afterlife *happy dance* And after having now read Afterlife I can say with certainty that this SERIES is fantastic!!

I've got to be honest, when I heard there was a sequel, I did wonder what could possibly happen now to these kids that had discovered the existence of bigfoot, and escaped to tell the tale. I was a little worried. Turns out, there was NOTHING to worry about. Afterlife is just as great as Undermountain and just as unique.

The story is once again told from the POV of our two protagonists, Danny and Breyona as they both embark upon their own adventures. Danny and Wa are kidnapped by Gor-Vit, the rogue Tangoga boss and end up on a planet of bigfeet who's existence was previously unknown and have many adventures there. One of my favourites being a rather exciting sequence with giant beetles pulling the boys on chariots whilst they are chased and hunted by monstrous super sized bigfeet! < That's a sentence I'll probably never write again!... Whilst Breyona and Em end up back in Undermountain to try and get help in rescuing Danny but run into their own problems there by way of 'Shaggy' the bigfoot who wants to conquer the world and brainwash the entire human race.

The action in this book is non stop. I loved it. I never felt bored. Even at the beginning, I had hardly caught my breath before the action jumped straight in at the deep end. I was really happy that we got to revisit all the old favourites from book one, especially Wa who was my favourite character (in both books) and who provides some great comedic moments. And I was very impressed with the storyline and expansion of the world building that takes place in this installment. A lot of care and attention to detail has gone into creating the creatures and planets in these books.

Lastly, I can't write this review without making mention of the ending. Oh. My. God!!! That's all I can say. It was epic, action packed, drama filled and also rather emotional. You'll get no spoilers from me but lets just say I almost dropped my kindle in shock at one point and let out a strangled 'NOOOOOO' after reading the final sentence of the book. Mr Edstrom better get writing book 3 pretty sharpish becuase I'm REALLY going to want to read that!

If you havent started this series yet, I really really recommend that you do. There is something in it for everyone and if I was to compare it to any other YA books out there at the moment I would say fans of Michael Grant's Gone series would definitely eat this one up!

The second installment in the Undermountain Saga does not disappoint. Edstrom continues with his compelling descriptions, creating many worlds so vivid that you feel like you are walking through them with the characters. His clear, flowing way with words allows you to flow seamlessly from world to world with the action of the story. He also uses this volume to give his reader a deeper understanding of the history of the various races involved in his story. This is worked right into the action of the story, not breaking up the flow at all.

He also kicks the intensity of the novel up a notch with this installment. There is a great deal more suspense that builds throughout the novel. By the final page it has yet to dissipate, leaving you wanting the final installment. All emotions are also more intense in this novel. Edstrom’s grasp of the English language makes the fear, sadness, and happiness of the characters so clear that you feel it for yourself.

Character development also carries on in this instalment. As all the characters in the novel are in their late teens, they have many real struggles to face. This includes relationship problems and concerns, which are apparent throughout the novel. These characters are all so real that you cannot help but picture them vividly. You want to help them through their struggles, but are too involved in the story to leave your chair.

Afterlife kept me captivated throughout. It is entirely unique and placed in worlds so well developed that you spend the hours that you are reading walking along side the characters. Also, this novel leaves the reader set up for the final installment of the Undermountain Saga.

This highly-awaited sequel to “Undermountain” is every iota as impressive as its predecessor in “The Undermountain Saga.” Non-stop adventure races at the pace of a monorail train, while empathetic characters (Breyony, Danny, Em, Shiv, and Wa, as well as the character everybody would like to leave behind-Bronson) keep readers entranced. In “Undermountain,” we readers were “abducted” underground, far beneath Earth’s surface, to confront both myths and legends, and science fiction turned fact. The ending was not an unnecessary cliffhanger, but did leave readers hoping for a sequel so we could find out more about the characters who had so endeared themselves to us. Here is that sequel, interweaving more science fiction come to life with incredible ancient history, making us devour the story at the speed of light. Author Eric Edstrom never drops a thread, keeping readers riveted and always hungry to turn the next page. Even the “villains” are presented three-dimensionally and are readily comprehended-whether we approve of their behavior and intent or not.
I don’t think I can recommend either “Afterlife” or “Undermountain” highly enough. Although the two are seamless parts of an entirety, it is not necessary to read “Undermountain” first (but then why would you miss it?) I did reread “Undermountain” in preparation for reviewing “Afterlife,” but the latter stands alone, unlike in some series, where too much backstory is left out. “Afterlife” can be read and enjoyed by itself; but do yourself a favour and get both. They’re keepers.

I flew through this book. It goes much faster than the first because you have already accepted the premis. It returns us to our favorite group of characters reuniting for the first time since escaping Undermountain. However, the reunion is shortened when Danny and Wa are kidnapped. It also ends with a pretty decent cliffhanger so I guess this means I'll be picking up the next book.

All of my favorite characters are back, human and hairy. And of course, since there’s a second book, you know our hero’s will be seeing their alien friends and enemies again.

It’s been more than six months since they returned from the mountain, bringing something away with them that’s changed them forever.

Now they are having a reunion of sorts. All meeting up again at Danny’s grandma’s house.

I can’t wait for you to meet Grandma. She is amazing and I just love her. So much character in such a tiny, frail looking body. You’ll see what I mean.

Everyone is there except for Breyona. She’s running late. Then the doorbell rings.

Danny froze as a surge of excitement filled him. The doorbell rang again, followed by two sharp knocks.

“Are you going to stand there like a lump or are you going to open the door?” Grandma asked.

Danny smiled. It had to be Breyona. He turned the knob.

The door smashed into his face and sent him stumbling backward. He tripped and fell over the porcelain frog and landed hard on his back.

A man wearing a black track suit and gas mask barged in. “Okay, so nobody move.”

Another man in a gas mask rushed in and pointed a spray can at Danny.

Grandma stepped forward and kneed Track Suit in the groin. He bent double, swearing in a high-pitched rasp.

“Sit on him, Bronson,” Grandma said.

Didn’t I tell you. You can’t help but want to hug her. She is such a tough old bird. But not tough enough. They all succumb to the gas.

Breyona is four hours late when she finally pulls up to Grandma’s house. Once everyone is awakened, they discover that Danny and Wa are missing.

The whole thing was caught on security cameras and they watched it play out on Grandmas computer. The men came there looking for something Danny had. Something they needed badly. And they got it. They take the unconcious Danny and bring Wa along for leverage.

It looks like the enemy isn’t done with them and it’s time to go back under the mountain.

This time they may not be so lucky.

Eric is at it again. Filling the pages with excitement, danger, intrigue and plenty of humor. This series is so addicting. And it just keeps getting better. He builds this incredible secret society, fills it with amazing creatures, and opens you up to a whole new world. I swear I can hear the sounds of this city and see all the wonders with my own eyes.

It’s a fast read from beginning to end, pulling you along with it. You won’t want to stop until you reach the conclusion, and maybe not even then.

I read Afterlife, the 2nd book in the Undermountain Series by Eric Edstrom in one day, and I must say I did so because I could not put it down. Suffice to say I was not at all disappointed. Our group of heroes must now confront the forces of evil they thought were left behind when they made it off the mountain in Book 1. Their journey takes them back to Undermountain and other unexpected places where extreme danger awaits. The evolution of Danny as the disinclined savior of mankind as well as the race of Bigfoots is an impressive one. Danny's loyalty, love and devotion to his friends and especially Breyona drive him to assume a leadership role and become that reluctant hero even as he struggles throughout the book with that decision. The book ends with Danny bearing many a battle scar but still fighting on because he know an even greater battle awaits. I'm highly anticipating Book 3 to see where our story concludes. I'll know I'll miss these characters when all is said and done.

The second installment was just as entertaining as the first. Again, Edstrom took the plot in an unexpected direction. I'm looking forward to the series conclusion in Starkiller.
