Enjoyed especially the chapters on the compound rhythm. Recommeded along with the "How to Sight-read any Rhythm Instantly" by Mark Phillips. Offers a very detailed and methodical approach, perhaps could be a bit shorter, though...

Rhythm is the problem! If students could only sight-read.
Enter David Newell! I love his practical guide to scaffolding sight-reading just like how we teach kids to speak a language for the first time. I hope to use this next year.

Very interesting, but you HAVE to read it with an open mind. I really enjoyed his ideas on teaching cut time and compound meter, and his focus on teaching "one thing at a time". Definitely a must-read for music educators.

Excellent resource for all music educators! Effective methods for getting students to reach literacy in music! I just wish I had found this book sooner!
