I’m not a song. I don’t have blue eyes like the girls you sing about. I have a blue soul.Sonnet Rosewood needs a new chapter–the kind that doesn’t remind her of anything she’s leaving behind in the Ozarks. So, when opportunity beckons to escape to the Great Smoky Mountains for a writing retreat, she answers with a firm yes. But the arrival of a decade-old and short-lived fling at the cabin changes everything. How quickly we push past the barriers we erected between ourselves for years.Recognizing the beautiful voice of the unexpected guest reminds her of his name, Hunter the man she wrote as forgettable, who vowed to show her he was anything but if given a second chance.Maybe you want the challenge more than you want the girl. What started as Sonnet’s attempt to escape her past thrusts her straight into the responsibilities of another’s, making their future sound more and more like the sad songs they’ve been writing together. While their passion is undeniable, their happily-ever-after is not. The single father’s rules leave little room for a different kind of love. And Sonnet has rules of her own–to never again wait for a man to open his heart to her.

"Love is never enough. It's the spark, but the flame dies if you don't work at it."
This book hit me hard. It wasn't what I thought it was going to be, but was something I needed. It was more about healing and was so much more than just a love story. It is about finding your own identity and becoming who you are meant to be. Sonnet Rosewood needs the words to flow again. After her divorce, she is just.. broken. She comes to a writer's retreat in the woods and plans to stay for a month to heal and find her words. Little does she know, a man that haunts her past will be there too. Although it was a one night stand, she's never forgotten him and he hasn't forgotten her. Hunter remembers everything about his time with Sonnet and even the late night phone calls and texts after. He writes her into his songs, even if no one knows it. Will the time ever be right for these two? He has responsibilities and no time to work hard at a relationship. He will soon find out that the best type of relationships are the ones you have to fight for. The book was heavy at times and resonated with me; "I mourn the end of my marriage. I mourn the fact that I made vows and couldn't keep them. I mourn that we never let go with each other. So many years, and I couldn't be completely vulnerable to him." The story was also hopeful. It spoke of a love that spanned a decade. When someone gets into your soul, they never leave.
"There's nowhere that endings cannot follow me, but I can live in denial for a while."
*Le sigh.*
This book is the epitome of its author. Lyrical with a sadness that makes your heart ache and feel lighter all at the same time...I don't think there's a J.R. Rogue story I've read that I haven't loved. This one is no exception.
"There's no better muse than sorrow but even sadness hasn't been able to pull words from me."
Sonnet and Hunter are star-crossed lovers in a sea of endless night; given chance after chance to find their way together and opportunity after opportunity blown by circumstance and fear.
Marriage, divorce, kids, distance...the need to keep life in neat little boxes. Sonnet finds herself staring history in the face when she really just wants an escape.
She'd know his voice anywhere, and through unexpected friendships as well as a few planned chance meetings...the words just begin to flow. And the music plays on.
"The poem you want to be, and the song he can't bring himself to write."
I absolutely loved this book. A story about love, loss, and second (or seven) chances. Every word meticulously thought out, creating a blind melody that you'd recognize anywhere...a love so deep, you'd see it with your eyes closed. I savored every chapter, highlighted a million passages, and witnessed true romance within the pages of this book.
A truly magical experience; my heart is full...and I can't wait till Christmas.
"Her words are so melancholy, so sad. But I see a certain lightness in her."
^ this is an actual line from Blind Melody. And this is an actual representation on how I view JR Rogue. Because you know what, her words are sad. Her stories are sad. But they're real. They portray something that all of us can relate to.
Every time she puts out a new book I am continually in awe of how she progresses and grows as an author. Her growth as a writer each time she releases a novel is just... astonishing. I have been there with her since day one and to read her stories now is just amazing. She has learned how to show us instead of tell us and her story-telling capabilities have become so aesthetic to me.
These two characters really grew on me. At first I was very leery of their predicament and budding relationship but the way Jen wrote them to fall in love with each other really spoke to me. Not only that but she has a way to make love seem so poetic and lyrical and I am ALWAYS here for that kind of romance. Romance with meaning and with hope and beautiful words.
Watching Jennifer grow into the beautiful story teller she is becoming has been such a magical adventure. Started with the first novel now we here, Jen! I'm eternally thankful for you and immensely proud of you!
*heavy sigh* ... Rogue's words are captivating. And full of feeling. You'll never walk away from one of her books feeling light and bouncy but you will walk away with a joy you never knew you could feel. Sonnet and Hunter are real. They are love and they are messy. This book is painful and beautiful all at the same time; how does Rogue do that!? How does she encapsulate the magic of life so perfectly? This book is, by far, my favorite of the series. Which is hard to say because Sera and Chance?? *Swoon* ... But Sonnet and Hunter? Oh, man. I hardly have the right words to express how amazing this book is... No, seriously. It's difficult to find the words. ... Iltheir story is raw and beautiful and I wish I could read it again for the first time.
J.R. Rogue has given us a masterpiece. It’s a purely melodic piece were you can feel all the highs and lows of the emotions as if you were listening to one of your favorites songs. This has become one of my treasured reads of 2020. There was just a connection felt with Sonnet and Hunter that was so relevant for me.
This book is about new beginnings, it’s about redefining and reawakening yourself where words and song are woven throughout to show us how beautiful it is to let walls fall and allow yourself to be free. Sonnet and Hunter both have a lot to let go in order for them to be exactly where they need to be and their story allows us to see their journey in such a beautiful way.
I loved that the characters are older, still feeling youthful, still wanting to grow and still wanting more and yet still need to figure it all out. Blind Melody is a love song, it’s a poem, it’s a novel to yourself that your worth and your desires and your dreams are all worth it.
Jen just completely shines with Blind Melody and has given us this look into the lives of two people that we definitely needed to see.
I just love and appreciate Rogue’s writing so much!!! Everything just flows so effortlessly. Character development. Story. Just another very solid novel by a talented author and poet!
Very much a stand-alone in a series. I read the first when it first came out and need to do a reread since it’s been revised and my taste in writing has changed. I also haven’t read the second book which I need to remedy stat!
Another great read from JR Rogue. This woman sure knows how to write from the soul. And yes I know she too also writes poems. But her writing is very poetic. Which makes it even better to read. It just flowed. I loved everything about Hunter and Sonnet. And how they hurt and healed together. It was also pleasant to see returning characters from previous books. Well done.
Sonnet and Hunter have both gone through the pain of a divorce and even with all the times they run into each other, it never seems to be their time. They are both writers, him a songwriter, her a novelist. They are both able to write about love, even if they dont believe they will ever get another shot at it. How many times a charm?
I love LOVE books where you can feel the energy between two characters and the chemistry between Sonnet and Hunter is palpable!
This story leaves a lasting impression from the first page, I always say a story that haunts my dreams is something special, I felt like I was in that cabin, like I was watching all these things unfold and that says a lot about Rogue's writing, her novels are an experience.
"Sometimes the people and things you love bite back. Doesn’t mean you give up"
This story is real and ethereal! Sonnet and Hunter, both come from a past filled with hurt, even towards each other and they still found their way back to each other! To me, that is the definition of true love.
“There’s a notebook in my back pocket with pieces of her in there.”
Let me tell you what I’ve learned about J. R. Rogue’s books. Don’t read the blurb. Don’t have any expectations about what it will be about. Just buy the damn book, read it, and be prepared to feel more than you thought possible.
As is the norm, this book was nothing like I thought it would be. It’s not a second chance romance, although Sonnet and Hunter do finally take a chance on each other and find their HEA. What this book is really about is finding yourself, your true self, even when it’s buried deep. It’s about healing, grieving over the loss of what never should have been. And mostly it’s about love, all the different types of love, most especially the love that’s been there all along, just waiting for you to realize it’s exactly what you need most in life.
Sonnet and Hunter are soulmates that unfortunately didn’t find each other right away and stubbled through life missing the other half of themselves. Despite a one night stand and a semi-friendship of ten years, Sonnet never really noticed what was right in front of her. Her beliefs of love and family were warped by her own parents, a mom who is the queen of serial marriage and a father who abandoned her as a child because he couldn’t deal with being a part time dad. Hunter was more aware of just what they could be together but never let it take root and grow. Instead he let his love for his daughters be his focus and passed the rest of his time in superficial flings with young girls in their twenties, each forgotten like last week’s dinner. Watching these two finally wake up and finally see what’s been right in front of them for over ten years was cathartic and joyful to me as the reader. I’m so grateful I got to be a part of it.
Don’t get caught up in what the plot is. Don’t try to label it as a second chance or slow burn or rockstar romance. Do you even call it that if he’s a country singer? Take my advice and do exactly what I suggested above. Buy the book and read it. I promise you will be very happy you did.

JR Rogue never fails with words. They bite, they're melancholy, they make you think. She weaves a complicated story together and makes it look effortless.
I loved these characters. The banter, the push and pull. Their uneasiness but drive for each other is palpable.
With this being book three to wrap the series, I love that you get a look at the two other couples from the previous books, and what their lives look like now. There's a certain kind of peace knowing everyone is doing well, even with fictional characters.
Rogue hid some Easter eggs along the way, and only those truly familiar with her work will pick up on them, which was an awesome thing to see and I think it will be nice for anyone who stumbles upon them.
I related particularly to Hunter, perhaps most of all the parenting side. It's never easy to go back to dating after divorce, but there's another level of concern entirely when kids are involved. I related to not wanting to expose the kids to anyone who wasn't sticking around. I had the same fears.
It was really great to read a story about an older couple. I don't mean they're old, but this wasn't younger people in their infant years of figuring out who they were. These were two stubborn people, who'd lived an entire life before their next chance rolled around. They're aged and set in ways.
Overall, Rogue did a phenomenal job, and there's nothing I wouldn't read from her.
This is book four in The Muse and Music series and it is Sonnet and Hunter's story and omg it is definitely a must read. Wow Wow Wow this book takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and I cried so much and it broke my heart with everything that Sonnet and Hunter have been through and then it eventually mended your heart in such a beautiful way. Sonnet and Hunter had so much baggage and trust issue's and even though they were so perfect for each other they had to go through so much soul searching to be able to move forward with there lives and I felt like I was there living through it with them every single step of the way. J R Rogue is an amazing author and writer and the depth of her story's are what makes you go back time and time again to read her book's and I definitely recommend you read this book and you will not be disappointed.
“The poem you want to be, and the song he can’t bring himself to write.” I love this line. I love the mountains and for Sonnet to go there for a retreat and find Hunter was amazing. He was such a great guy. Although I understood why he had his rules but also not. It’s hard for some people to share how they really feel and sometimes when they finally do it’s too late. The ups n downs these two go through was a lot but soooo realistic. I felt so bad for Sonnet. Great heartfelt (sad, happy, angry, you get my drift) story.

Very compelling story, right out of life. Or so could be… Don’t we all have the « one that got away » living in the far corner of our heart? The one we visit when life gots the best of us again and we just need to wallow for a while…the one we pack away again when we rebuild ourselves after the breakdown, the one we don’t really need….the one who’s always there… If you’re searching for a light funny fiction read this isn’t it. It’s for you if you like real people, bad behavior, love at it’s cruelest and tears in their honesty. That’s what I think. Enjoy your read !

J.R. writes the kind of story where your heart becomes one with Sonnet and Hunter. You feel their energy, want to help them up when they're low and ride the high they vibe off right into the sunset.
Love how it seems to be happening to real people not just names in a story. I read straight through. I cheered, cried, held my breath and let the outside world melt away. These characters became my obsession, I had to know they would be alright. I received an ARC for an honest and voluntarily review.
I think everyone has somebody pushed back to the memory corner and wished to stay there? This book will give you some answers. It’s about healing from the past and bringing the past back. Is this even possible? What if. . This book will hit you hard. It wasn't simple second chance romance but much more. I guess every book by JR Rogue is more….

I enjoyed this story and the growth of these two main characters which is building on the story of other characters from the last 2 books in this series, can not wait to read about some of the other in hopefully the next book. There is relationships and love after a divorce and was great to have book world (like the book boyfriends) where these things happen and that as much as the character may be turned off to the idea with the right person there is no rules.

I love second chances romance a lot! And this one didn't disappoint me! I love everything, the words, the way it made me feel the entire time I'm reading this book. I craved for that kind of romance. Like you really have to compromise to be with someone you love.
Loved seeing new characters and old characters come together in this third book. Hunter and Sonnet were a great addition to an already amazing cast of protagonists in the series. Their story at first seems that of star crossed lovers, as evidenced by this quote
"We are fleeting, will always be fleeting."
This line drew me farther into the story. Don't we all have someone we've always found a connection to, but for some reason or another, it doesn't work out? I was so engrossed in the poor, I'm sad to see it end.
Hunter and Sonnet’s story reads in chances. They’re often on the same page until they aren’t-painfully so. Books like this force you to reflect on the setbacks in love. The trials Sonnet goes through really resonated with me and I felt for her, her history. You tend to go through it all with her, absorbing her emotions. Love isn’t always pretty and if you know that about your own experiences this book doesn’t give you a romance through rose colored glasses, it gives reality and resilience and the true power of love for someone over time.
Sonnet and Hunter’s story was amazing. A roller coaster ride of emotions and heartbreak. A book that breaks you and then puts you back together again. A fantastic story!!
Oh my. I have never savored a book like I savored this one. I'm talking 'made myself read one chapter a day' kind of savor. It is my #1 favorite by Jen, and I thought no one would ever unseat Chace. There is magic in this story. Something about Sonnet and Hunter captivated, enthralled, ensnared me from the very first page. Blind Melody is raw and real; it has notes and undercurrents that were sort of similar to Kiss Me Like You Mean It in terms of my visceral reaction to them, and yet this story was entirely new and had an almost whimsical air at times. One of my favorite components of the book was the premise of learning to be okay with who you are- Sonnet definitely went through a rebirth, shedding old constraints throughout the novel. Hunter, Hunter, Hunter. How I love that man, even when I wanted to reach through the pages and smack him a time or three. My favorite thing about him is the way he loves Sonnet, completely and without stipulation. I loved that they had to work at it, that they kept drifting back to each other like magnets moving closer and farther apart until they were finally able to make it their time. I loved getting to see my long-favorite characters, knowing where they were each at in their journeys, feeling their happiness through the pages. As always, Jen's prose is lyrical and gut-punching, and many parts of this book broke my heart. If I had one story to read again for the first time, it would be this one. It is beautiful, poignant, and hopeful, and I will recommend it endlessly. P.S. Jen, sorry this took so long. You've truly made magic here. Much love! <3
(Warning: part of a series, but each have different sets of main characters within their world, each book has its own HEA)
I cannot get enough of this author and this series!
It is wrought with emotion and so well written that I absolutely could not put it down! Each book has been cohesive and enlightening to the overall theme between these characters.

In Blind Melody Sonnet is given the opportunity to go to a retreat to give herself space to recover from recent disappointments in her life that are messing with her ability to write. When she gets there Hunter is there as well. Each of them have things that they need to work through and they need to work towards being able to heal and love in the future. Emotional and transformative in ways that engaged and moved me to want to keep reading to see where they would end up.

Here is one truth I know after reading this book. J.R. Rogue is the perfect example of a writer who works continuously to hone her craft. The growth I have witnessed from her is magnificent. This growth only makes me more excited for her to put her next book out just to see what she does with it.
This story was beautiful. The songs, the poetry, the characters. All of it. Jen has written characters that nestle their way into your heart and sit there the entire time you are reading. And can I just say how refreshing it is to read about someone by own age? I love a story about young, first love but there is something special about two people finding love again after weaving through what life has thrown at them. It just makes it more remarkable when they finally let their walls down and let love consume them.
This is the kind of story that will stay with you. The trials and hardships of both Sonnet and Hunter. This is a wonderful book, well written great characters all the emotions J.R. Rogue pulls out of you. I read this book and I feel spent. It was both beautiful and ugly. It is everything you expect this book to be. Some of the quotes from the book are pure poetry. I would highly recommend this book.

I was very excited for this book and it did not disappoint. I loved the first person point of view, not to mention that Sonnet was a wonderful hero. Amazing story, 5 stars.
