I finally read a book

Really enjoyed this spin-off from Davies' The Awakening series. The only issue is that the books basically crisscross each other so I'm not sure if I should read the second book in The Alliance series or the next one in the The Awakening series. I think it would be the next one in this series because in Ravaged (from The Awakening series) there is already something going on between Vicky and Nathan. But since I don't have that one and have the other from the library, I may have to just suck it up. LOL
This spin-off series is a bit darker than her The Awakening series. There is a big war now starting between the Defenders and the Savages (vampires who have lost their humanity). This book starts the alliance between the Hunters (who hunt ALL vampires, not knowing the difference) and the Defenders (the purebreds - born vampires) who fight to stop the Savages. This book is about Ronan, the leader of the Defenders and the sister of a Hunter.
Really enjoyed the book and love the fated mates. I know it isn't a trope for everyone but I think Davies does a good job with it. The men are very protective of their mates and I love to see that.
You don't have to read The Awakening series to read these but it is recommended.

Davies does it again!!! I fell in LOVE with her Captured series which she writes under the name Erica Stevens.
World build:
Phenomenal! Loved the Hunter aspect Davies introduces to this vampire genre. Her concept that they come from the same base line of linage is very intriguing and fresh to read. Clear and concise world. She never deviates ensuring the reader never has that moment where what is happening does not quite fit into her world.
Storyline:
With some books it can seem a little one sided. Some authors lean more toward the MC or FMC leaving a reader feeling as if they do not fully know and understand the main characters. Davies does a great job of laying out the past, present and future for both Kadence and Ronan. The baseline of the series focusing on the "Savages" is strong and exciting. There is plenty of action and suspense, but there is plenty left undone and looming.....making this reader anxious to start book 2.
FMC:
Although there were times her naivety got on my nerves, I took a deep breath and considered her upbringing. Those moments were few and although taxing they were necessary to show the growth in this character. In the end she is an exceptionally smart and powerful woman who I hope to see more of as the series progresses.
MC:
From the moment Ronan enters the scene he has my full attention. Dominate and powerful he is one that will quickly have the reader grabbing some cold water and a personal fan. He is beyond sexy and the chemistry is explosive.
Ronan and Kadence have exciting and very different backgrounds which are weaved together throughout the read. Outstanding writing!

Interesting storyline, but needs to be edited better.
I enjoyed the premise of the storyline, however, I almost didn't read the book due to the confusing change in narrative and repetitive information. At first It was the male protagonist's POV, then the next paragraph it was the female protagonist's POV. I had to re-read the first couple or sentences to determine which of the characters the author was talking about. I found several words, just within the first chapter, that seemed out of place. There were several paragraphs that were repetitive (giving the same information over again), which slowed the progress of the story down. I found myself skipping over paragraphs and even pages of the story that had been shared previously with a different character. This book, while it has promise, just needs a good edit.

Ronan is over 1000 years old and has been in a constant battle not to succumb to his inner demons. He was close to losing that battle until Kadence came into his life.
Kadence has lived a sheltered life, but when Ronan saves her from an attacker who murdered her father, her eyes are open to a whole new world, that she didn't know existed.

This is the first book in the author's spin-off from her Vampire Awakenings series and it starts off with a bang. So many things that were touched on throughout the originating six book series become very clear in this one.
We not only get introduced to new characters, but some old ones make an appearance. I can't gush enough about how good this book is. Between the jaw dropping action sequences and the tender moments between Ronan and Kadence, this book had me at hello.
Kadence went from being a timid bystander to a strong fighting presence in Ronan's life.
Ronan himself, started off as very closed off and tortured, but by the end of the book, he becomes something better.
And then there were the feels!!!
Gosh there were so many other surprises and other awesomeness in this book that I dare not spoil, but the one thing I will say is...

Kadence was very sheltered as a female hunter, they're taught to fight but not expected too. As a matter of fact they're expected to be married off to the strongest hunter available to continue the blood lines. After the death of her father Kadence sneaks out and follows her brother while he hunts the vampire responsible. She meets Ronan on that hunt and the course of their lives drastically change.
I really enjoyed this one, gave me kinda bdbh vibes at least the early books

Ronan is the only one of his kind and generally considered the leader of his people, he's on the verge of turning savage when he finally meets his mate

It was okay. I'm used to a faster pace, more steam, and less filler. I felt like this one included lots of filler and things that the story really didn't need. I also don't like the "secret-keeping" device as a means to create tension in a romance. This author used that. Overall, the romance felt too slow and so did the pacing of the story.
But, this is not a bad book at all. It's just not for those of us who need more pointed storytelling. I found myself becoming bored and would have to re-read pages repeatedly. I just couldn't remain engaged with this. I think reading this after a Suzanne Wright book of the same genre was bound to leave me wanting.

This story had typical vibes that I usually get while reading a paranormal romance. It had great world building with introductions of what a vampire, hunter, and a savage vampire were. Some of the elements of this world had very similar rules to other vampire book while at the same time having its own unique and established rules that other books do not. I really appreciated that and being sucked into the world right from the get go as Ronan and Kadence had their meeting at the club with the same purposes of killing Joseph, a savage vampire. They immediately had this super intense attraction and pull towards each other, which was an indication that they were each other’s mates.
What I thought was really interesting was the rules that hunters had for their woman. It was very sexiest. Very archaic and very much gave me vibes of a historical romance that place restrictions on woman. Yes, women in the hunter world was protected, but they were also trapped and not free to live. They were precious commodities, but more as brood mares instead of individuals due to the low number of births in the hunter’s population. So, these women were sequestered, matched with a fellow hunter and marriage, taught how to please her husband, and just learn to be the perfect wife. That was a woman’s function, but Kadence wanted more than that from her life. She wasn’t that stereotypical woman that were known in the hunter’s world. She “failed” her classes to become the perfect wife. She yearned to see the world. She wanted to see the outside world that she had been protected and sheltered from. She was very smart and resourceful as she snuck out of the compound in order to find and kill Joseph for killing her father. I just loved her tenaciousness and wit. Just everything that wasn’t valued in the hunter’s world of what a woman should be was what Kadence. I loved that about her so much.
As for the romance between Kadence and Ronan, I absolutely loved and adored. It started with that pull to each other in the club, but soon became much more because they knew that they had a connection. It was a heated and intimate one. I loved how Ronan gently took care of her when she was injured. I loved how they listened to each other as they each explained their worlds to each other. Worlds that were different yet similar. Despite the fact that hunters hated the vampires and was what was taught to Kadence all her life, she never hated him as she got to know him and learn about the fact that not all vampires were bad. She even started falling for him along the way. I loved the training scene, which was sexy and spicy as their sexual tension played out. I loved how he was willing to give her her freedom even to the detriment of himself after learning she had been trapped all her life at the hunter’s compound with very little choices. He wanted to give her the world and let her make her own decisions of how to live her life. He never wanted to pressure her to stay with him even though if she left he was more than likely to go savage without her. He really put her first in her wants and needs. I loved that because it showed how much her cared and loved her. Just their whole courtship was really well done to show as they began fall in love with one another even without the mating bond.
The love scenes between these two were scorching hot, yet really intimate and about their connection as a a couple. Their first time scene was very beautifully done as they indulged in their craving for each other, but ti very gentle way since it was her first time. It was about the intimacy and sharing together as they brought each other pleasure. They had a little hiccup in the aftermath scene, but not because he didn’t want to hold her close, but it was cause he was loosing control and wanted to make her his completely by biting her and having her become a vampire to stay with him all eternity, but he never wanted to do it against his will so he ran away, which made her believe he rejected her, not knowing the full extent of what was going on. Then after things became revealed, things got back on track then they had some more sexy times that were spicy yet intimate as the first time. There was the one scene that felt really intimate because there was such understanding in that moment because she realized that she wanted to be with him and what she had to due in order to ensure that happened. It was a process that was very emotional as it was bonded until they were really one. There was no going back after that. I loved that.
There were a lot of action packed scenes in the hunt for Joseph. It didn’t take away from the romance, but only enhanced. It added an edge, danger, and suspense to the story. But there was another element in their as well, which was the hunters vs vampires conflict. Both of them had the same goals of taking down savage vamps, but the two groups didn’t have understanding between each other, leading them to be in some heated conflicts along the way as they chased Joseph. It was very tense especially with the whole connection between Ronan and Kadence. However it lead to a good opportunity to bridge the gap between the two groups and form and alliance hence the name of this series. So, I appreciated that part of the story. I thought it added depth without taking away from main thing which was the romance between Ronan and Kadence.
I throughly enjoyed this book very much. I adored it. It reminded me much like other paranormal romances that I have read in the past with lots of passion, danger, suspense, and world building. Some of the world building was similar to other vampire books, yet had some unique things about it too mainly the things concerning the savage vampires. It made very intriguing and kept me on the seat of my pants as both hunters and vampires alike go after savage vamp Joseph. With this world that was built, it made very interested in wanting to continue the series because I want to know what happens next and see more richness to the world that was established in this one. The romance was awesome as a pivotal plot point with everything else in the background only enhancing the romance as it progressed between Kadence and Ronan. I loved them together so much. I loved seeing their journey in falling love with each other. It was clear that they understood each other as they got to know each other more and more. They had a great connection. They had passion. They had great intimate moments together. It was clear they wanted the best for each other. They just had a real good relationship with one another. I appreciated that so much. Even though I did this story and world was really amazing, I couldn’t quite give it a five star rating, not because of anything that the story did wrong, but there was just something that was preventing me to give it a five stars. I don’t know what that missing piece was, but it was something. But overall, I enjoyed my reading journey with this one, and I can see myself reading more books in this series as well as the series that it was spun off from sometime in the future because I’m very intrigued. This was a win in my book.

But there was another element in their as well, which was the hunters vs vampires conflict. Both of them had the same goals of taking down savage vamps, but the two groups didn’t have understanding between each other, leading them to be in some heated conflicts along the way as they chased Joseph. It was very tense especially with the whole connection between Ronan and Kadence. However it lead to a good opportunity to bridge the gap between the two groups and form and alliance hence the name of this series. So, I appreciated that part of the story. I thought it added depth without taking away from main thing which was the romance between Ronan and Kadence.
I throughly enjoyed this book very much. I adored it. It reminded me much like other paranormal romances that I have read in the past with lots of passion, danger, suspense, and world building. Some of the world building was similar to other vampire books, yet had some unique things about it too mainly the things concerning the savage vampires. It made very intriguing and kept me on the seat of my pants as both hunters and vampires alike go after savage vamp Joseph. With this world that was built, it made very interested in wanting to continue the series because I want to know what happens next and see more richness to the world that was established in this one. The romance was awesome as a pivotal plot point with everything else in the background only enhancing the romance as it progressed between Kadence and Ronan. I loved them together so much. I loved seeing their journey in falling love with each other. It was clear that they understood each other as they got to know each other more and more. They had a great connection. They had passion. They had great intimate moments together. It was clear they wanted the best for each other. They just had a real good relationship with one another. I appreciated that so much. Even though I did this story and world was really amazing, I couldn’t quite give it a five star rating, not because of anything that the story did wrong, but there was just something that was preventing me to give it a five stars. I don’t know what that missing piece was, but it was something. But overall, I enjoyed my reading journey with this one, and I can see myself reading more books in this series as well as the series that it was spun off from sometime in the future because I’m very intrigued. This was a win in my book.

It was okay. I thought it started off nicely, but then the pace slowed down substantially in the middle & end. Not much actually happened so I was left wanting more character development & action. The secondary characters were barely developed and there were things brought up that were never fully explored??! Like, did they forget about them? Did you just not care anymore? The story just moved on, which was frustrating.
I liked Ronan, but I thought Kadence was too naive. I was most interested in Declan because of his mysterious “differences” that were mentioned, but I guess I’ll just never know.
It’s amazing that the same author wrote The Road to Hell books, because those were so much better. I don’t think I’ll be reading the next books in this series.

Ronan has cropped up before in the Vampire Awakenings series and this story focuses on him. This is one of my favourite books from this new series and the Awakenings series. It's gritty and I couldn't put it down. I recommend reading it.

We finally got ronan's book, but he felt less powerful compared to the awakening series.
One of the positives of Ronan in this book is that he felt more youthful and talkative.
Kadence was ok. I hated how the hunters were portrayed as amish society. No kidding, she couldn't watch movies or shows.There was no schooling. She was only allowed to have children. she was not allowed to hunt. Because of this Kadence, the fmc said sign her up to be a vampire( kidding me, I would too).
The hunters are similar to vampires. Meaning, they are very strong, but again, they seem weak, and I don't understand how they don't know all of the vampire weakness. I did not like them, and I don't like some of the members.
However, the ending was exciting. I enjoy the alliance, and I love the fact that hunters can also be vampires.Hopefully, the next book, the hunters are better developed

Well...I loved it! The author brings in some serious unknown factors into this book that I fully expect to see more of as the series progresses. Ronan is the oldest vampire around and he's a purebred from generations back. Meaning? He can kick serious butt and no vampire comes close to the amount of power he has. Kadence has been under lock and key her entire life. Being a female hunter means your life is planned out for you. You learn how to be a good wife and if you're lucky, a mother. And that is basically all their existence entails. Not yet resigned to her fate, she escapes and follows her twin brother on the hunt for the vampire that killed their father. Because of that one act, it sets into motion events that no one could have foreseen. I love how hard Ronan seems to be and yet, he can be so caring for Kadence. And she turns out to be something entirely new. This book does end in a cliff hanger. Things aren't really resolved. But I can't wait for book 2!

This had a lot of potential at first. It somehow reminded me of my favorite Night Huntress series which I might reread again one of these days. Anyway, halfway in and I found myself getting bored. It was just majority of the book was spent on Ronan educating people on the terms, who’s who, their capabilities, history etc etc. It was just information overload that I think it got away from the story. I ended up skimming towards the end. Overall, this was an okay read, I guess. I just didn’t enjoy reading it.

Ronan is the oldest purebred vampire in existence, and time is wearing on him.
As a leader, he knows his purpose is to protect the human and vampire races from Savages - vampires who have given into their darker natures and become slaughtering machines. In fact, Ronan daily fights his urge to give into being a Savage and only hopes he can end his existence before that happens.
Kadence is a born hunter, one whose blood has been raised to kill all vampires. But while she knows how to slay the monsters, as a female, she’s never been given the chance. The only life open ahead of her is an arranged marriage and babies. This repulses Kadence, who knows tonight’s the night to follow her brother - leader of the hunters - and try and make something of herself once and for all by searching for and killing the vampire who killed her father.
But when Kadence lands in the middle of a vampire/hunter/savage fight, she is injured by Joseph, her father’s killer. Ronan, feeling an unworldly attraction to her, saves Kadence’s life and insists she return with them.
What a great find! It’s been difficult to latch on to another vampire series because I’m always comparing them to others I love, like Black Dagger Brotherhood. This, however, was a very promising beginning!
These vamps are a bit different - they cam go out in the sun, and one really can’t tell they’re vamps unless they bite someone. The Savages, however, cannot go in the sun and also smell like trash. The more innocents they kill, the stronger they get, but also the more restrictions they experience.
Ronan and Kadence make a wonderful couple, and I’m happy to say that this has a HEA, for now, anyway. It appears as if all of the characters make appearances in the follow up books, which is great!

this was my first book by this author, and one of the few paranormal romances ive read but i really enjoyed this! i loved the main girls spirit and how she got her self out of a life she didnt want, and how her character development went through out this book! i also really liked the hero vampire in this book, he also had a great character development through out the story and of course my favourite thing about a romance when they help each other become better people! i thought he was selfless, and really loved Cadence ( could be spelled wrong, i listened to audio book lol) i also love the whole Hunter and vampire thing, and how this book was a great start to a series and cant wait to read on to the second book about nathan!

Typical phrase: "That was a question he dreaded he would find out the answer to soon." I get the feeling the word "dread" was found in a thesaurus next to "fear" because it just does not work here. "That was a question he feared he would find out the answer to all too soon." or "That was a question he dreaded finding out the answer to." would work.
The conditional is particularly badly handled. The writing may improve; I wouldn't know. My TBR is far too long to waste time on second and third chances.

Ahhhh….. I just ADORE Brenda Davies vampire world and her versions of them 🥰. All the heroes seem to have perfect amount of primal possessiveness balanced with a deep respect and willingness to compromise, topped off with a big ol’ dose of Touch Her and Die vibes ❤️. Ronan definitely was no exception to this! I LOVED him in this story, and his and Kadence’s relationship was SO satisfying to read/listen to. Really hit the spot! Also, though these books aren’t TECHNICALLY the kinkiest or spiciest books I’ve read, there just something about Ms. Davies heroes that makes the books feel so HOT 🔥❤️. Don’t get me wrong though, the books are still pretty steamy, and I LOVE it! This book was EXACTLY what I needed, so I think I’m gonna continue to explore more of her books next!

My first foray with a Brenda K. Davies novel. I disliked the constant change in the narrative. It was a big drawback for the book. Otherwise it kept my attention enough to want to read the next in the series. I am a sucker for a vampire romance.

This is a great series opener and although it's a separate series from the Vampire Awakenings I'd recommend reading them first. Ronan and Kadence are fantastic lead characters and the multiple character POV storytelling works perfectly. I'm really looking forward to the direction this series takes.

I feel like this was smooth writing. It easily flowed between the two MCs pov, in a way that added to the story rather than segregate and take away from it.

Sí, este libro está plagado de clichés del subgénero, sobretodo del vampírico. A pesar de esto, me ha gustado cómo los ha ejecutado la escritora. También me ha llamado bastante la atención el mundo creado para esta saga. Aunque no sea original, creo que tiene potencial.

Fantastic! Great storyline, bloody battles, eternal love. These are the type of vampire stories that I need more of!
