Not His Kiss to Take

Rate this book
A single kiss could change both their lives forever, but it’s not his kiss to take… Dr. Evan Harrison has become a recluse, a prisoner inside his own house, felled in his prime by a migraine headache without end. All he'd ever wanted was to be a doctor, and now he's nothing - until chance delivers a beaten and battered Jamie into his care. Fourteen years his junior, gorgeous, mouthy, stubborn and completely and unquestionably straight. Maybe. Or maybe not... Jamie doesn't know what hit him, other than there were three of them, and that he's broken and in pain and he doesn't know the identity of the kind stranger with the cold stethoscope and warm eyes taking care of him. And he sure as hell doesn't know why he likes his bossiness or finds him sexy.... Chance may have brought them together, but a shared attraction keeps them together long after Jamie’s bruises have faded. As Evan enjoys the longest pain-free stretch he’s known in two years, they begin to explore their attraction, the caresses of a kind Jamie’s never known. But even as Evan revels in his young lover’s first, tentative touches, the guilt is never far from mind. Jamie’s never looked at another man romantically and Evan’s never looked at anything but. And Jamie won’t kiss him. That would be…gay. Evan wants Jamie’s kiss more than he’s ever wanted anything before in his life, but it’s not his kiss to take, its Jamie’s to give. Evan knows wanting Jamie is wrong, their relationship unethical, a relationship forbidden with just cause. He swore an oath to do no harm. And it’s not only his oaths that are going to get broken--he’s never given his heart away before.

Finn Marlowe is a paralegal by day and erotic (M/M) romance novelist by night. She believes daydreaming is a vastly underrated pastime and probably spends way too much time at it. Her kids no longer ask what’s wrong when they spy her staring off into space—they just assume she’s writing a scene from her next novel and they’re probably right. Paranormal romance is her favorite genre to write, and the story’s usually on the dark side because she still believes in things that go bump in the night.

Finn calls British Columbia home and when she’s not enjoying the beautiful outdoors, she’s inside reading or resenting the fact her kids are better video game players than she is. If there were more hours in the day, she’d like to become a better artist, a greener gardener and learn to speak Spanish. Since she believes all dreams are possible if you don’t give up on them, she expects to regain her video game hi-scores, naturally vanquish all garden pests and finally paint what lives inside her imagination. As for speaking Spanish, well, she’ll settle for learning to pronounce all the good curse words.

Holy dirty talk! This book is hot, hot, hot!

There is no plot: this is effectively a 200-page extended sex scene, as Evan initiates Jamie into the joys of anal play. As Evan is a wealthy independant man with no friends, no family, and a penthouse apartment, there is pretty much zero action outside of the bedroom. Or the shower. Or the chair in front of the window.

But sweet Jesus, there was something about the way this is written that meant I had to change my pyjamas.

Evan is a little bit toppy, but he's not a Dom. Jamie likes to be taken to the edge and ordered around in bed, but he's definitely not a sub. Evan likes to describe what he's doing/going to do, and there is one hell of a lot of fingering before any penetration takes place. The first bit has aspects of medical play that are delicious. I mean, it's actually medical treatment, but flippin' heck!

The whole thing just comes across as filthy and gorgeously kinky, even though objectively it isn't in the least filthy and kinky. It's Evan's mouth, that's what does it. And his thumbs. And tongue. This is one of those books that ends up making me weep that I am not a gay man with Evan for a lover.

I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who likes D/s, with the understanding that this is not a D/s couple. Oooh, ooh, you know what this is? It's the anti-Power Play: Resistance! It's all sweet and loving and gently teasing and fucking hot!

Of course your mum has told you to always wear smart underwear in case you suddenly end up in hospital. But when your doctor’s name turns out to be Evan Harrison, you better make damn sure you’re wearing a chastity belt instead.

Because even feeling like semi-roadkill’s not gonna help you escape Dr. Depravity. And although Evan’s intentions are good when he rescues a young rape victim on a dreadful night, he sure is one hell of an unethical bastard. Which is exactly the point here. And – despite latex gloves, catheters and enemas not playing a role in my daydreams – a crucial part of why I gobbled up this expertly stretched out sex-scene excitedly. Usually, I’m not keen on a sex overkill, but, oh my, Marlowe builds up the tension perfectly here.

So I have to admit that Marlowe is not really my author. Her A Thread of Deepest Black was a somewhat traumatic experience for me and I don’t seem to click with her writing style in general. The excessive usage of endearments and certain words, her falling into that annoying italics trap over and over again...

But whoohoo! Woosh! With NHKTT I was able to take the hundreds of slimy angels, miraculously cured migraine attacks and even the occasional cheese for granted! Everything was just so well-paced and damn – "Get on the bed. Now." – hot!

Thankfully, Evan also digs catheterizing people for entertainment purposes. And he doesn’t believe in privacy during enemas. In other words: there’s enough material to cool you down effectively in between sex scenes.

Although I would like to offer a word of comfort to those who are reluctant to try out reading anything that hints at poop and pee: soldier on and you’ll get used to that nozzle before you know it! The Scream by Edvard Munch had nothing on my facial expression the first time I read NHKTT. But now that I've reread this book... I’m actually pretty suave with things.. and the author doesn’t play difficult; she smooths over the worst that could happen during certain activities...
Still, make sure your mind doesn’t register what your eyes read at the moment supreme and stay very far away from quinoa cookies, and you'll be just fine.

So, yes. You wouldn’t say it when taking a look at the Chippendale-ish poser kid attempting a come-hither look on the cover, but NHKTT is really worth giving a shot. It’s FREE, unexpectedly sweet, deliciously icky icky and impossible to put it down.

-------------------------
Finally, a trick question:

If your doctor looked like this, would you still decline an enema?
A) Yes.
B) Give it to me Tony!

See Emma's great review for a more thorough explanation. I am adding a few thoughts and feelings, which will share a small part of this pleasurable experience.

Silly me of course made the mistake of starting Kiss late last night, I was relaxed taking it easy and thinking it would take me a couple of hours to finish, heh, that was blown away, as I was, it ended up being an all nighter, no going to bed for me, no way in hell, fell hook line and sinker. This book, Wow, amazing, I gleefully devoured it all its pervy, sexy, hot as hell and oh man the medical kink was so raunchy, it was a shivery spine tingling delight.

Any doubts I had were shoved aside, it's a startlingly, gorgeous story and a freebie (I would have paid for it, it's that good). I loved it which is surprising for me and kudos to Finn Marlowe who seduced me completely with this couple, it was a fascinating and riveting few hours reading. The long sex scenes didn't overwhelm me not one bit, beautifully tender in ways I can't even explain fully.

Evan and Jamie are a sexily exciting couple and the teasing is wonderful especially Jamie who has a mouth on him, those nicknames for Evan, gems lol! Not His Kiss to Take, warmed up to burning hot and If you want to experience this lovely seductive and so delightfully bad story, then I highly recommend you go read it and enjoy!

Holy shit.

The kinkiness of it!
A deviant doctor and a clueless boy.
So dirty, wicked, twisted and hot.
I am totally ignoring the weak plot + plausibility of it and rating it based on heat content.
Disturbing and scorching hot for the likes of medical kink.

This was a solid 4 star read for me! And it was a freebie to boot!

I was surprised by how dark the beginning was. I guess I didn't quite realize how Evan and Jamie's relationship came about.

I was also surprised by how much I laughed in this book, for it starting out the way it did. I think that's what really won me over. Despite the fact that Jamie and Evan meet under terrible circumstances, their dynamic was really great.

Was this one kinky?

I mean WOW!

There was a definitely a fine line between the whole doctor/patient thing. Which may have been crossed a time or two. But who's counting!?!

Bottomline:

Freebie for the win!

I’ve read the book, which was the easy part, now the review which is going to be the hard part because I’m not exactly sure what to say about this story and the characters. While I think Jamie is a wonderful character so sweet and so very funny, Evan is a character I didn’t like at all no matter how hard I tried. I will admit there were times I could see the chemistry between Evan and Jamie but Evan’s behavior towards Jamie at the beginning prevents me from liking him, I just couldn’t get past it which is a shame I think this could have been a good read if certain things were handled differently.

This is completely my own opinion many readers will have no problem with the story but obviously this was not a story for me. :-(

Oops, just read through some of the other reviews for this book it appears I'm in the minority here. Huh?!

I know that my moaning and bitching about sex-fest in romance makes it sound like I don't like smut. Well, it's not the case. I like smut -- it's just that romance is not necessarily have to be smut. But when I come around a good smut, I am a happy girl too.

And this? OMG. THIS? THIS just hits all other smuts out of the part. It makes me all shivery and tingly and busy fanning myself. So, SO GOOD.

But not only the fabulous sex, the characters shine as well. Two distinct voices -- that even if all the names are erased, you will know who are talking. I love them both. I love Evan, the pervy deviant doctor with his kindness and patience for Jamie. I love mouthy brassy Jamie with his vulnerabilities.

And the emotions, people, when they are separated for awhile, and they finally get back together, and Evan GETS THAT KISS?! I am ready to go down the floor, on my knees, saying THANK YOU GOD WHO RULES HEAVEN AND EARTH!

The last chapter is not necessary, though, in my opinion. I think if it is finished after the big 'deal', the anal sex, the see the secret of the universe scene, it will be just perfect. The last chapter feels a bit too dragged out, like introducing another issue that can easily be written separately.

I actually have to slow down reading it because I don't want it to end to soon. Plus my skin feels all sensitive and I'm only reading this. Gosh, darn it, Emma said it best: it makes me weep because I'm not Jamie. This is such a great read -- and it's generously free *kiss book*

Trying to breeze through this was a mistake. A greedy, over-zealous, mistake. Not His Kiss should be read in bursts, it's just way to hot otherwise.
There is a story, full of character development, conflict, misunderstandings, hurt/comfort. Aawwwww's.
Yeah.... but see, I'm a bit of a perv. The long, drawn out, dirty-talk, medical-porn, uber-sexy, older man/younger man festival of the senses just kept me from focusing. On the story. I'm sure it was good... no, no, I'm sure it must have been great!
Just give me a few here, I'm still glowing.
;P

I'm wide awake and adding another star on this because I read it again, and LUUUUURVED it even more!

My feelings towards this story are a little unclear; there are aspects I really liked and aspects I really really didn’t like.

It started off well. We quickly meet Dr Evan Harrison drinking alone in a bar, pondering the woes of his medical career, and right off the bat it was clear his narrative was going to be a little bit different to the norm. His internal musings came across as slightly disturbed, which weirdly intrigued me and had me wanting more.

Soon enough, he spots a beautiful blonde man across the bar.

I liked where this was going…. Until the point that Evan’s internal reactions to this “Blonde Angel” became a little bit creepy and a lot predatory.

BEWARE: Spoilers ahead!

Over the course of the night, Evan loses track of Blonde Angel, but eventually finds him in the men’s room, where he’s lying broken and scared after having been assaulted by a bunch of goons. Evan’s doctor gene kicks in immediately and he goes into protective gear, fast.

Jaime (Blonde Angel) insists he not be taken to a hospital due to financial worries (and a fear that the assailants will find him again). Evan complies and takes Jaime home with him for some personal, private care. I ignored the ridiculousness (and wrongness) of this in order to enjoy the delicious hurt-comfort action that was afoot.

Evan can’t contain his perverted-ness for very long though, as what was meant to be a professional doctor examining an abused patient quickly turns unprofessional with wandering eyes and lingering touches.

This was just the icing on the cake. I mean, poor Jaime has been horribly abused in ways that left great physical damage, as well as deep emotional damage, yet, Evan can’t help his reactions to Jaime, even though Jaime adamantly, and repeatedly, claims to be “not gay” – seriously, he says as much like 5 million times throughout the book.

Whatever, though, right?! Straight-schmaight! What’s a little inappropriate touching from your new doctor in the aftermath of a brutal attack?

Then that thing everybody is talking about happened. .

The whole middle of the book was just one weird, inappropriately timed, sexual encounter after another. But, remember, Jaime is still not gay, guys. *nods*

I will admit that the last third of this story really turned it around for me. I went from considering a 2 star rating, to going a bit gooey at the sweetness that these characters showed one another. I liked the insecurities and the eventual expression of feelings. I liked how they actually started to talk about what had happened (the bad stuff) and what they wanted to happened between them in the future (the good stuff).

At this point, I thought I was almost home free and happy with the turnaround, but then that weird thing that happened earlier in the book happened again and I was none too pleased. I think I was meant to be intrigued and possibly turned on by the whole thing? But, again, NO!

Ultimately, I felt like Evan and Jaime’s HEA was well deserved and I was left feeling happy for them. Thank god!

Well - apparently when you have this in your library at Smashwords and it gets pulled from publication it disappears from the library. That's a huge bummer. Does anyone have a copy? Mine was on a computer that crashed - and my bad assumption was that smashwords would keep it in my library!

EMK, EMK, EMK! Exactly My Kink (to read). What a wonderful story. I loved Jamie and Evan but most especially Evan. I found his inner dialogue so honest that it made quite the story for me. His guilt was heartbreaking. I feel quite sure, at one time or another, many of us have had inappropriate thoughts about someone we are attracted to due to the situation. Evan's honesty with Jamie about it really stepped him up a notch in my eyes. As was Jamie I could totally go to the forgiveness table for him. His arousal during the initial pages makes complete sense in light of the entire picture. In case people aren't clear arousal is not always something we can control. It does sometimes happen in the wrong place, at the wrong time, and with the wrong person but we're human and that is the way life goes. To me this story had all the great elements - the only thing I wanted to hear more of was when Evan said "boy" because I just find that so sexy. I wish there was a "girl" equivalent but there isn't. I do not like humiliation or pet names that are derogatory (I respect those to whom being called a "slut" is not a put down..I'm just not one of them!) and saying "girl" is like nah..not so much.

Jamie's evolution, being hard fought, was outstanding. I loved his smart aleck ways and like everyone else his names for the Dr. Classic!

A total 5 star story!

Didn't get past 7% my dislike of the pov character is growing with every word and while I usually try to keep turning pages, the way the plot is going it was a push to get this far.

The book starts with italics and be honest now, who doesn't get the urge to skip them? ..Not ever?

We learn how clever Dr Evan is and how the poor tortured soul has caused something undefined through constant migraines, and he's fiercely allergic to latex. To me he comes accross as far too precious, the comment about prescribed meds felt like a whiney excuse. Medicine appears to be a hunt for acclaim rather than an ideal, I'd have better respected honesty - owning to his pain and working within his limits, nothing wrong with being a GP if you know surgery lights make you seek drugs and evoke a desire to knock yourself out! My concern for potential patients overrode any sympathy/empathy.

Evan was a trust fund kid and Dr which means if guys aren't checking him out they must be straight. Uh-huh. He also has a thing for young boys and in that context his perusal of Jamie is creepy lecherous he keeps it legal and maybe it's the current (Savile) climate influencing my perception, but I don't think he'd refuse a 'young' offer.

His 'Angel' is attacked Dr Evan decides to take him home. PROFESSIONAL ETHICS PEOPLE where are they? I couldn't stomach reading on, the last lines of Chapter two killed it for me.
What the hell had he gotten himself into?
The funny thing was he didn't care.
I'm a doctor again

-What he'd gotten into (or wants to!) is a young abused boy.
-Nice.
-Suddenly I'm hearing an evil cackle.

On the positives side? It's currently free.

EDIT: Read a further 10% (quiet shift) and it's really not for me. A Dr kink is fine, but the context makes it abuse

EDIT2: Character's name corrected.

This is a book I would normally have enjoyed, but my personal views on medical ethics and Evan's complete lack thereof took me out of the story and I never really got back into it.

If it weren't for the ethics issue, which was a real deal breaker for me, I would have probably given this four stars, but I'll refrain from rating it now.

Kinky AF!!!!

——-3.5⭐️⭐️⭐️
Well, this was kinky as a hell and you know I love my kink!!l Medical kink including enemas & such were a highlight! Can you say, “Housecall?” 🔥🔥🔥

A very young (21) year old is savagely attacked. Dr. Hottie comes to the rescue and instead of taking him to the ER, he takes him home. Why? Well, I guess there would have been no story then. So, traumatized MC is bandaged up by a non-practicing doctor. At his house. By himself. He’s a recluse because of dehabilitating migraines. He’s had a headache for two years. I know what that’s like. But as soon as he brings the boy home, the headache ends and that’s it. As a migraine and headache sufferer, I was into this plot line that got thrown out with the trash.

That brings me to the plot. There was one of sorts. Kinda like mini breaks between the sex. The sex between the gay doctor and the straight survivor. And here is where things started feeling off for me.

First, was the ceaseless bi/demi/pan-erasure. There were never ending declarations of “I’m not gay” by the young straight MC. Riiiight..because one can ONLY be gay or straight. I think this spoke to the age of the book (but it’s only 3 years old!) or to the lack of insight of the author.

The second thing in the “plot” that turned me off was that the older doctor performed a very intrusive “medical” procedure on his “Angel” days after the young MC had been brutally raped. Ya—not sexy! And it’s not sexy to get off on that, Doc.

Crossing the line between doctor and patient and sexual identity erasure aside, I very much enjoyed this book. Why? It was freaking kinky 🔥🔥🔥 and I love my kinky kink!! Dive in and expect erotica and you’ll be happy!! 💙💙

Shelving this because the cover guy looks like the foreign minister of my country.
Which is a good thing in my book, LOL.

description

*sigh*

I really enjoyed this book. Evan and Jamie are a cute couple with a 14 years age difference.

The beginning is actually quite a taboo issue involving sexual abuse and a doctor/patient relationship.
I didn't mind, though.
The sex is very kinky, which was a surprise...

However, the downside was the lack of plot. There simply wasn't much. Especially the second half is simply a string of sex scenes... albeit pretty good ones.

All in all a decent book that is very strong on sensuous sex scenes and lots of unintentionally humorous dialogue ;-)

‘Not His Kiss to Give’ was inspired by a prompt submitted for the M/M Romance Group’s 2012 ‘Love is Always Write’ (LIAW) event. 'Kiss' was written as a gift to a GR reader and was not included in the series. The author decided later to release it publicly. (note: this is a correction to the original review)

The prompt for ‘Kiss’ asked specifically for a medical kink. Combine this with a forced seduction/dubious consent and other unethical behavior and you have a story that pushes limits. Usually the LIAW tag is stated in the story blurb and I can’t think why it wasn’t here. It might have helped. In any case, the author did a good job writing to her prompt.

I like dark erotica as well as sweet romance and I like my limits pushed. ‘Kiss’ is not really that dark though it is erotica that leans towards PWP. For me, it’s controversy lies within the characterization of the main protagonist. When we meet Evan he’s a cynical, reclusive, trust fund guy, a doctor on suspension from medical practice because of drug issues. He's a bit of a mess. He has unusual sexual kinks and a big perv for much younger guys. Okaaay...he's a quirky guy, but when he meets Jamie, victim of a vicious hate beating and rape, he decides against better judgement, to take him home for treatment. Whether the reader can go along on this romp depends on a their comfort level and willingness to accept Evan as a romantic figure. Can we even make the journey towards some kind of redemption for him?

‘Kiss’ is set up as pure, basic, fantasy kink erotica and works at that level:

-Jamie is slender/small and beautiful. Evan is muscular/big and beautiful. (Everyone is extremely desirable and beautiful/gorgeous/pretty, usually with green, blue, grey eyes and perfect physiques. No love handles allowed!)

-Evan takes Jamie home because he is beautiful and he desires him and he can. (If Jamie had looked like an ogre it wouldn’t have happened. Period.)

-Evan gets to act out his medical kinks on Jaime because they will heal him and... Jamie goes along with it! (can you say sex toy?)

Jamie in the sunlight..."
(thank you Moderatrix Lori for the photo!!)

I didn’t have a problem with Evan’s various kinks but his treatment of Jamie at the beginning did creep me out. His actions, as a doctor, were unethical and still, I had hopes for him (hmmmm, would it have worked better if Evan hadn't been a doctor? Drat that prompt, right.) I did love Jamie, I loved his snark, his bravado, and his vulnerability. And yes, some of the seduction and sex scenes were Volcanically Hot. So, it's a mixed bag. A writer has to find that special balance in their alchemy that makes it all hang together. A salacious read, yes, but also with some issues.

5 stars for the kinky, smokin' sexifuncation; 2.8653 stars for character issues = 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars. Yeah.

Okay, so I agree with everyone about how dirty hot this book was. So, instead of explaining the four stars I gave, I want to talk about the the one star I didn't give. Medical kink. Ugh. But I knew that would happen. I guess because I work in health care, it's like a 'familiarity breeds contempt' kind of thing, but for me, even thinking about medical kink is a bit like thinking about your parents having sex. (Ew, gross, let me go throw up quickly). It's just the opposite of sexy. Thankfully, there wasn't too much of it and most people really seemed to like it, so really I'm the lone dissenting voice here. I also had HUGE issues with the ethics of the situation, but I guess it's 'cuz I spent weeks of my life in a medical ethics lab debating the whethertos and the whyfors of doctor-patient relationships and my feelings about these things are pretty firmly fixed. So, my whining monologue comes to a close with the statement that this is a lovely, smutty book which gave a great many people joy and which I wish I could've enjoyed more. This exact book, without the medical stuff = 1 million stars.

This book blew cool creepy air over a few of my fiercest fetishes. And tugged at my heartstrings the whole time (in the best way).
Why yes, yes you may insert a catheter into my kinky brain. This book gave me multiple brain orgasms! You know when you just have to put the book down for a moment and refocus your eyes and take deep breaths? Yeah, a whole lot of that.
So funny. So sexy. Truly heartfelt. Against the norm.
I loved so many things about this book. One sexy point in particular was the description and handeling of first time anal penetration. We have all read the same thing 100 times, "he started slow, worked his way in inch by inch, it hurt, it burned, so tight, then POOF so good and the prostate - mind blow now everything is fine and fuck my brains out." Not this book. No no no. This was delicious for me because it felt authentic, and I just like when these things are hyper-detailed.

Finn Marlowe aka Dr. Withholding-a-sequel. That being said, this book is perfect on its own and I shall reread it annually until I die.

Late comes the review, but it comes. This book squicked me. Badly.

This book could have been the perfect story of why not to force and practically brainwash a dependant into an affair, a BDSM one to boot.

Unfortunately it sells us that abuse is perfectly fine if the abused ends up suffering from Stockholm Syndrome/Abuse Syndrome and thinks they are in love with the abuser. It also perpetrates that it's just fine for a non-licensed doctor to commit acts against every ethic-related rule of his profession (pretty much regardless of which country we are talking about).

I was--literally--sickened by some of the non-con and rape going on in there. Not because of the deeds themselves, no, because of the authorial voice giving them her okay instead.

For me there was no redemption possible except Evan turning himself in. Where I live he'd have been struck from the register, slapped with a verdict for sexual exploitation and rape, serve a couple of years, and be forever on the lists of molesters.

Never have I yearned for a kiss so desperately. Wonderful characters with incredible voices that grabbed me right away. Don't ask me who I liked better, Evan and Jamie were both phenomenal individually and together their chemistry was off the charts. Heartbreaking, sweet, fun, kinky, super hot, highly entertaining...I couldn't have loved this book more and would gladly tack on a extra star or two if I could. I started this one and couldn't stop. Literally. The sex scenes were extremely hot and with the awesome beginning I thought maybe things would fizzle out down the road but that never happened. The medical kink bit was done really well. What I loved about this book most was that the darker parts were very well written. Some of it was so graphic in fact, that it made me cringe which I assure you is a good thing. ;) Loved it.

This book was so hot. I had to give it a lower rating because of the assault that happens in the beginning that starts off the relationship between Evan and Jamie. To me it just felt really wrong and unethical for Evan to touch Jamie in any kind of way when he was acting as his doctor.

If that had been different this would have been a 4 star for sure because there is some smoking hot scenes going on between the MC's and the there's a great HEA as well.

Still a great erotic read but not something that I feel comfortable with recommending.

Phew, well ...this was fun.

Especially considering I managed to look beyond the unethical Doctor patient scenario. To enjoy this you need to detach and remain unaffected by the wrongness factor and go with it. Suspend your belief for a little while and remind yourself that it's fiction, it's not easy because the Doc comes across as WAY creepy at first. But he's not really, he's just honest and lonely and really, really fancies the pants off of James.

But you know what? I can deal with a bit of taboo; I've forgiven characters a lot more than indecent sexual thoughts and an inappropriate erection before. Now, as creepy as Dr Pervius Maximus is in the beginning I grew to really like him and his kinky ways. James is pretty great too, snarky and funny and he doesn't take any shit. But he's totally straight! Bah...yah ...right!

I was surprised by how much I liked this book. Finn Marlowe is new to me and she is one hell of an erotic writer. I mean, enema's are sexy now? Bloody hell she's a great advocate for promoting healthy colons. You can't read this and not see the benefits - LOL. Okay, seriously now - this was very erotic and a great gay-for-you story. If you can handle the lack of ethics and want a very sexy read then this is a good one, despite the ka-ka cover.

Best line: “You had me at that first ‘fuck you’.”

This was unlike anything I’ve read before - both in execution and content.

I dunno. I can see how this would appeal to some and offend others. Definitely many, many shades of gray are present, as Evan struggles with his attraction to his patient and being the healer that comes so naturally to him. He can’t not help Jamie, just like he can’t help but fall for the beautiful young man.

Yes, lines were crossed. There were so many things that could push a reader’s buttons, both good and bad. In the end, this was pretty darn kinky. Many times this made me uncomfortable. I admit I was also titillated here and there too. However, I still rejoiced in their win. So though a horrific, awful thing happened, it was the start of a chain of events that led to their ultimate happiness. I think in the end, that’s what I'm going to say that's what counts.

I absolutely loved this book. It surprised the shit outta me!

The beginning of this book is so tough to read. I hated what happened to poor Jamie. Being targeted by drunken assholes when he hadn't even done anything wrong. What they did to his was just disgusting and I'm so glad that they didn't win, that Jamie was strong and allowed Evan to eventually help him overcome it all.

Jamie was such a great character. I liked that you could easily tell there was a pretty big age gap between he and Evan (14 years). He wasn't immature or annoying, but you could tell he was young. He's light and fun and so very accepting of Evan and who he is.
I liked that he knew from the very start that Evan was super kinky, that he was openly gay and loved to seriously play with 'Medical Kink'. He didn't approve, but he didn't judge either. I loved all the hilarious names he would call Evan, like... 'Dr. Love-Me-Love-My-Butt-Nozzle', 'Dr. Ain't-Puttin'-Out', 'Dr. Damn-Your-Dick-is-Motherfucking-Big' or 'Dr. Dirty-Deeds'. LOL
He brought out such a wonderful side of Evan. It was captivating, seeing them grow closer together and explore their sexuality.

I loved how Evan was completely enthralled by Jamie, from the moment he met him. I was afraid that I would be grossed out by the fact that Evan was lusting after his 'patient', but I didn't feel that way at all.

'Captivated by the sight, Evan stared openly. Saliva pooled in his mouth. In love, his dick strained and throbbed against his jeans. Don't get excited, he told it. You know that love is unrequited. Stop wanting something you can't have.'

Evan fought his feelings but in the end he wanted Jamie too much not to try and get what he wanted. I loved everything about their relationship.

"I'll miss you when you're gone, Jamie. I'm sorry for what happened to you. I'd undo it if I could, but your company - just the sound of your voice - has been a gift to me. Wish I could figure out how to tell you that so you'd understand.'

This was a really wonderful book, with a nice HEA. It was my first book by Finn Marlowe but it definitely won't be the last :D

* 4.5 * This is what I call a marmite book. You're either going to love it or hate it . I loved it kinks and all. Don't get me wrong I had a bit of a " perv alert " moment with Evan at the beginning, there'd be something wrong if the thought doesn't cross your mind. Evans a Doctor, Jamie's been raped and beaten and is in a very vulnerable state so yeah for that moment its dubious and I nearly gave up, but I was so intrigued by these two characters that I pushed on and soon I was so wrapped up in their story I couldn't put it down. Weird thing is I'm not a massive D/s fan but I found this really sensual and sexy with heaps of palpable sexual tension that jumps off the page at you. Some of the kinks are a bit out there ( I think you'll know what I mean if you've read it and I say bathroom!!! ) but they fit the mindset of the book so I could put up with that even though its not something I particularly get! As they get closer, the attraction becomes mutual between these guys and you see this strange relationship slowly change into a proper love story that underneath all the erotic play is actually very romantic - . well I thought so but this might also be a moot point for some readers! You'll definitely go through a lot of emotions with this book, just interesting to see what the split's going to be on this........Love or hate? One other thing in its favour, its free and a decent length - its camp love for me. :)

This one goes straight on my favourites shelf ... *fans self* ... how frickin' hot is this book?! ... *wipes brow* ... toss in the snark & I was a goner ... *adds batteries for the BOB to the shopping list* ... Read. This. Book!

After multiple reads, this book is still one of my pervy favourites ... it makes me laugh, cry and get hot and flustered.

So ... I just read this one again and I felt I needed to flesh out my review ... not many authors can write brilliant, witty, sexy dialogue without occasionally making me cringe ... Marlowe has mastered the art with a seamless transition from internal to actual dialogue ... the myriad names Jamie has for Evan are precious and can I say that Marlowe writes some of the hottest sex I've ever read ...

I enjoy reading kinky fuckery but I must admit that I was getting a tad jaded with the high-protocol kink fests ... I love reading the stories where healthy, well-adjusted individuals revel in sexual debauchery without all the elaborate, unobtainable-for-most paraphernalia ...
