Sukumar Ray (Bangla: সুকুমার রায়) was a Bengali humorous poet, story writer and playwright. As perhaps the most famous Indian practitioner of literary nonsense, he is often compared to Lewis Carroll.

His works such as the collection of poems Aboltabol (Bengali: আবোলতাবোল), novella HaJaBaRaLa (Bengali: হযবরল), short story collection Pagla Dashu (Bengali: পাগলা দাশু) and play Chalachittachanchari (Bengali: চলচিত্তচঞ্চরী) are considered nonsense masterpieces equal in stature to Alice in Wonderland, and are regarded as some of the greatest treasures of Bengali literature. More than 80 years after his death, Ray remains one of the most popular of children's writers in both West Bengal and Bangladesh.

He was the son of famous Bengali writer Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury and the father of the renowned film-maker Satyajit Ray.

শুরু শেষ পর্যন্ত যে নাটকীয়তা বই না পড়ে বোঝার উপায় নেই। যারা হাসতে খুব পছন্দ করেন তাদের জন্য এই বইটি। একদম শুরু থেকে শেষ পর্যন্ত একটু যায়গা নেই যেখানে বইটি আমাকে হাসায় নি। হেসেছি প্রান খুলে। শত পাগলের মধ্যে থেকেও যে কিভাবে কার্য উদ্ধার করা যায় তার বৈজ্ঞানিক ব্যাখ্যা রয়েছে বইটিতে | বিঃ_দ্রঃ হাস্যরস দিতে সুকুমার রায়ের বিকল্প নেই। বাংলা সাহিত্যে সেই প্রমান তিনি রেখে গেছেন।

হাসতে হাসতে কুটি কুটি হতে চাইলে সুকুমার রায়ের বিকল্প নেই৷ এই গল্পটা কবিতার ক্লাসে বসে পড়া। ক্লাসের মাঝে ফ্যাক ফ্যাক করে হাসতাম আর সব স্টুডেন্ট অবাক হয়ে তাকিয়ে থাকত। ম্যাডাম হাতের বই দেখে এমন একটা ভাব করত যে এটাই স্বাভাবিক। আমার জীবনে এটা একটা বড় প্রাপ্তি যে আমি কিশোর বয়সে এ বইগুলা হাতে পেয়েছিলাম। বাচ্চাদের হাতে এ বই দেয়াটা আসলে ফরজ কাজ হয়ে গিয়েছে।
