Edit: 1/17/2017

A publisher representative contacted me to let me know they reached out to the editor and confirmed that the inserts in the Scripture are from the version of the Bible being used, The Amplified Bible translation, and not added by the author. I apparently do not like that translation of the Bible. It changes my slightly negative below view of the author, but I am assuming that that translation is what the author has chosen for her works, so my three star rating does stand. I do appreciate the publisher for taking the time to contact me to correct my assumption about who input the insertions into the Word.

My thanks to NetGalley and FaithWords/Center Street for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.

This review breaks my heart. I LOVE the Bible, love Joyce Meyer's work and I especially love her Battlefield of the Mind.

So why only three stars? For a Bible?!? The parentheses and brackets the author inserts into the Scripture. Every four to ten verses or so, she decides that there are words and concepts that her readers need some help with, so she adds definitions in parentheses and brackets. Only parentheses if only one word needs explaining, brackets too if there is more than one.

It bothers me for a few reasons.

1) It's insulting that she thinks her readers can't understand simple words/concepts like "belief" and "rest". 2) It says in several places in the Bible that man is not to add or remove from the word of God. 3) Instead of using footnotes, like other Bibles do, the parentheses and brackets break up the flow of the reading of the Word, making it very difficult to read, comprehend and enjoy.

I mentally skip the offensive punctuation, but it is really annoying to have to do it every few lines, sometimes multiple lines in a row.

Maybe I am the only person in the world who doesn't like this style of transcribing the Scripture. She does have a huge following, which is merited. She has a lot of good things to say and counsel others with. I do love her works and can usually ignore the punctuation in question when she's just quoting one or two verses. But to do that with the whole Bible is more than I can tolerate.

I was looking for a good study Bible for this year. I was SO EXCITED to see that she had put one out that used my favorite work by her, Battlefield of the Mind. That's why I am so crushed to give this less than a perfect review.

If you don't mind the way she writes Scripture and you love her other works, this is for you. It just didn't work for me. DNF when she felt the need to explain "rest" (as in when the Lord rested on the seventh day from creation), with the word in parentheses "cease". I just couldn't go any further. Three extremely sad, heartbroken stars.

A Powerful New Tool for Every Christian

While there are shelves of different types and versions of the Bible, bestselling author Joyce Meyer has created a standout Bible. BATTLEFIELD OF THE MIND BIBLE gives a unique perspective to the Scriptures in its focus. Also because this Bible uses the Amplified version for the Bible text, the combination is compelling.

As Meyer writes in the opening pages, “Everything in life—the decisions we make, the words we speak, and the actions we take—begins in the mind. Before we say or do anything, we think about it. The fact that our thoughts are so powerful and wield so much influence over every area of our lives is why the enemy, Satan, attacks our minds so often and so strategically….I have developed this study Bible because I have learned from personal experience that the only way to win the battle of the mind is with the Word of God. The enemy tries to influence us by telling us lies, but we can combat his tactics and overcome him with the Truth. Throughout God’s Word, from Genesis to Revelation, we find verses and passages of Scripture that offer the insights and instruction we need to think godly thoughts. I have written various types of notes and commentary on these passages to help you understand what they mean, so you can use them to win the battle Satan tries to wage against your thoughts.”

The text of this Bible is easy to read and use. Scattered throughout the book are book introductions, “winning the battles of the mind” articles, “keys to a victorious life” articles, PowerPoints (brief powerful comments for a specific Bible verse), “speak God’s Word” entries, “a prayer to renew your mind” entries, highlighted Scriptures on thoughts and words, and finally how to have a real relationship with Jesus.

BATTLEFIELD OF THE MIND BIBLE is a power-packed tool for every Christian. The articles and sections are loaded with insights and value. I highly recommend this book.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review. I am already a big fan of Joyce Meyer, for the way God speaks through her on a daily basis in her messages, her ministries and her books. In this Bible, I expected nothing less than a similar offering. I usually prefer the hardcover Bible so that I can highlight and underline to my heart's content, but I can definitely see myself using this electronic version in study and in church because I like the additional information her version provides (through Battlefield of the Mind) as a supplement to my Life Application Study (NIV) Bible. I highly recommend this Bible as your study Bible.

The moment I opened this Amplified version of the Bible featuring commentary and introductions from Joyce Meyer, I loved it. Joyce Meyer has put much thought into how to address the use of Scriptures into the battles we face in our minds. Joyce Meyer uses language that is clear and comprehensible and addresses the topics she discusses in her book, Battlefield of the Mind. There are featured sections such as A Prayer to Renew Your Mind and Keys to a Victorious Life interspersed between each book that make understanding the points easier.

Overall, this Bible is great to have as part of your library!

Happy Reading!

Overall, this was a good listen. I expected it to be like a regular audiobook, though, and it's not. It's a recording of one of her sermon series based on this book. I didn't agree with her comments on depression and anxiety. Basically just saying stop thinking that way. It's not that simple for many people. Many people have to take medication/go to therapy, and that's okay. I personally felt that it may have encouraged the toxic thinking that makes many believers feel bad when they need extra help for their mental health. Making them think that if they would just pray harder, they wouldn't have mental health issues. Other than that piece, lots of great points and teachings.

I don't know where to start. I'm a big fan of the Amplified Version so someone gave me this as a gift. This isn't my first bible with commentary either. I'm a Spirit-filled Life fan. That said. This thing is a travesty. Unreadable. There's so much commentary and inserts that the bible is sometimes hard to find. And nothing original. It's the same prosperity gospel spin-doctoring over and over again. There's no index to her malarkey, so I tried to make one out of the nine pages in the back that she reserved for "My Victories". There wasn't room. 270 lines was not enough space to catalog just the nonsense in the OT. I started just numbering the recurring themes: Thoughtcrime (your thoughts are bad and you should change them like underwear), Fear of fear (fear is something to be afraid of), I'm talking and I can't shut up (we should be listening to God's Word instead of our own commentary), and Prosperity gospel. Each of these major themes has an antithesis or "anti-" theme that runs about 25% of the content of the main monkey business. She doesn't always fall on the same side of the fence when the desire to add to God's Word overwhelms her. It is one of the aims of the Lockman Foundation, producers of the Amplified, that "They shall give the Lord Jesus Christ His proper place, the place which the Word gives Him; therefore, no translation work will ever be personalized." I think they need to see this defacement and ask themselves whether their objective has not been compromised.

The various Power Points and Keys to a Victorious Life and special prayers were wonderful additions. The focus on how important our thoughts and words are was one of the themes that kept coming up. Thoughts become words and words turn into action. Satan is always lying in ambush waiting to demoralize us, tempt us and drive us away from the Lord and the blood he willingly shed so that we could have joy in our own lives. I very much appreciate the publisher and Net Galley for my kindle copy for an honest review.

I did enjoy this study bible. Many, many good articles in it. This was my first time reading through an Amplified Bible Version, it is not my favorite. I grew up reading KJV and I still think of many verses in those words. I do enjoy other versions though but this version would mess with my thought process of certain verses. Still, I did really enjoy my read through.

I collect Bibles, and I wanted the Amplified translation. It takes some getting used to to read because of all the brackets and emphasized words, but I kind of like it. I got the Kindle version. I need a hard copy. I think it would be easier to read, especially for the articles and commentary.

I’ve read a fair amount of books and this is one of the best. Joyce Meyer very clearly lays out the truth about our thought life and how important it is to control it. Then, she gives very practical ways to do that.

Anyone who’s ever read The Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer knows that until we get our thoughts under submission, they will continue to rule us and cause us to make bad decisions, have bad (or ruin) relationships, and live with worry, doubt, confusion, depression, anger, and feelings of condemnation.

There’s no better way to support more positive thoughts than to use The Battlefield of the Mind Bible as continued spiritual growth and encouragement. Jam-packed with notes, commentary, and previously unpublished insights from preacher and author Joyce Meyer, this Amplified version of the Bible has the tools you need to banish those unhealthy thoughts forever. One of my favorite features of The Battlefield of the Mind Bible is the over 200 passages written to teach the reader how to pray in agreement with God’s Word.

Use The Battlefield of the Mind Bible to encourage and equip yourself and those you love to be victorious in the battle over your thoughts with over 200 verses, points, and thoughts. With positive scripturally-based positive affirmations, full page meditations ending in prayer, and learning how to speak life over yourself and those whom you love, you’ll win the battle of the mind by knowing what God says in scripture about His promises to you.

Disclaimer: Due to the density and length of the book, I was not able to read every page before reviewing. I did, however, skim through sections, and read the entirety of a few books inside with which I was very familiar.

Full of commentary, prayers, and highlighted scriptures, reading this Bible feels like an intense Bible study without having to bring several other books into it. It intends to encourage and strengthen the faith of its readers, and seems to do just that.

When my current Bible wears out, I will strongly consider replacing it with this one.

I received this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
