The Galactic Alliance was created in the wake of the Terran - Tholtaran war and its members have lived together in peace for five decades. An ancient race known as the Chroniech, however, have other plans. On the way to investigate another recent attack on a remote outpost, the Komodo Dragon, under the command of Captain Ken Stricklen makes an unbelievable discovery. Knowing the implications of what the Alliance has found, the Chroniech accelerate their plans of extermination. To save the Alliance from annihilation, the Komodo Dragon embarks on an incredible journey of discovery into unexplored space.
Can the Alliance survive the advances of the technologically more advanced Chroniech?
This is the second book fo the Galactic Alliance series; a hard military science fiction space opera that has been compared to E.E. 'Doc' Smith's famous Lensmen series.
I've always wanted to be a writer. I used an old Royal typewriter in high school to start my first work of genius - I never completed it. Over the years, I started and never finished more stories than I can count--and then I discovered word processors. Editing was a snap and as my time in the Navy drew to a close I finished my first complete novel. Although it was never published, it served as the basis for the entire Galactic Alliance series.
The books I write can be read by all age-groups from the young to the very old.
Today, I'm a husband, father of two daughters, grandfather, and a science fiction writer. I currently work as a database administrator at a nuclear power plant in Northeastern Ohio. I am proud to have served 11 years in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear propulsion operator (nuke ET).
I am an avid reader of science fiction and science-related books and magazines and I prefer to write science fiction that is heavily based on science. Of course, it is science fiction so the science often has to be stretched. I have also written two fantasy novels.
I am constantly trying to improve my writing skills and I enjoy receiving feedback from my readers. One of my more vocal fans is now a close collaborator serving as my content editor in my most recent book. An author should always listen to those who read his or her books; it's the only way to know where improvements can be made.
Nice solid SiFi story. Good read and nice plot and characters. This book reminded me of a good original Star Trek episode. Very enjoyable to read. Nice Sifi book for a young or beginning SiFi reader also. The end actually surprised me. Recommended
This is a great book for teen ages. Doug Farren have included a lot of description to illustrate a picture in your head. This would be a great book to read out loud.
In the book Power Struggle By Doug Farren, The Alliance Ship "Komodo Dragon" was dispatched to a mining outpost. When The ship arrived their, Ken (captain of the ship) discovered that their entire outpost was destroyed by an enemy ship. While on this mission, the Komodo dragon also made a important discovery that could change mankind forever. This discovery was clearly much more advanced then to the Humans. This discovery was later a rumor to all other races in space. Could this be war?. Follow the crew of the Komodo dragon as they travel to places where no Alliance ship has ever gone before.
This is military scifi, set sometime in the future. There are a lot of alien life forms, and even some humans involved in this story. Add five members of an previously unknown race who have been in a stasis chamber for 40,000 years, and an interesting story starts to unfold. There are good guys and bad guys, monumental battles, and long journey's to unexplored regions of space. If you are into hyperdimensional theories and continuum calculus, this book is for you. The ending is a little weak, and some of the characters a bit far out, but overall, not a bad story.
This was a good book ending a 3 book series. I give it about a 6/7 on a 10 point scale. If you read books one and two you need to read this one to finish the story.
