First: A 2nd Generation Marked Heart Novel

Rate this book
Augustus Carrick Caffrey V, that's what they named me. First, that's what they call me. Now, you might be wondering, being the fifth from a line of proud Irishmen, why I'm known by first. Well, I'm the first Augustus, in our family, to grace this world with blonde hair, not red. First born out of a set of twins, Wren, my sister, was born twenty minutes after. She's always been the stubborn one, takes after our dad. I was the first to talk and walk between us. I'm also the first out all five Augustus Caffrey's to go to college and have no plans to run the family's bar. That's really more my sister's thing, always has been. Told you, she takes after our dad. Anyway, the truth of it is, my cousin, Tansy, is the one who called me First, first and it stuck.

I sometimes wish she hadn't been the one to get it started. I can't help but think of her every time someone says my name. First cousins, only a few months apart, we grew up close. Our moms are sisters by adoption and they couldn't be more opposite from each other. While my mom is insanely in love with my dad, her mom is, last I heard, working on husband number seven. Don't get me wrong, my mom can get crazy when the situation calls for it, but Aunt Silvia is unstable in every aspect of her life. Tansy mostly stayed with our grandparents, but spent every summer with us. She and Wren never really got along, because my sister is mean as hell and has been for as long as I can remember. We bonded over books and joined forces against my sister's torments as often as possible. We were close, until we got a little too curious with each other one summer night and she ended up going to live with her dad in Michigan.

Because, coincidentally, the girl who gave me my name, was also my first.

First: A Second Generation Marked Heart Novel

This book is First: A 2nd Generation Marked Heart Novel written by M. Sembera. With this book, we begin again with the children of the Marked Heart Series. I love all of these characters and am very happy to be back in town and hanging out with my old friends! I love Ms Sembera's way of creating her characters and wrapping us all up together in her stories. I can't wait to read the next book!

As always i adore Mary's writing and this was a bit of an emotional story of two characters whose lives pass each other with one going to find her family and one going to college and they cant figure out how to change that. Quickly found that i had to stop trying to place these characters to their parents as i was losing the story. This is a standalone and should be read as such. there is so much love in these families and friends but at the same time they have normal falling out's because they are not perfect. i gotta admit that the picture of first on the cover isn't my cup of tea but thats the great thing about books you can picture anyone you like. First as pictured as a tall young man with dark close cropped hair, white tee and blue jeans his sister in my head was Catriona Balfe from outlander. Mary has a wonderful writing style that makes you bond with her characters.

How I love the Caffreys!

I loved them in the Marked Heart series and I love them as I start the the first book of 2nd Generation Marked Heart.

The book introduces all the cousins (2nd generation), but is centered around First, Auggie and Charlotte's son. He has been away at college for a couple of years and has come home for the summer. And so has another cousin, Tansy. Although First and Tansy are referred to as 'cousins', there is no blood between them. Tansy was left with the family several years ago, and she grew up with the kids. But her and First have a history that divided the family, sent her away, and kept him away until now.

Summer has brought everyone home, and First struggles with being near Tansy until they both are unable to fight it any longer and end up in one another's arms. But with the family strongly disapproving of the relationship, and First knowing he will be going back to school at the end of summer, he is torn on how to deal with his feelings for Tansy.

Will First get the girl or lay his feelings aside for his family's sake?

I loved this story! M. Sembera has a way of pulling you into each character and feeling exactly what they are going through. I always enjoy the humor that goes with the Caffreys. You cannot read about them and not giggle or completely laugh out loud.

Looking forward to the next book in the series!
